The basic Zope security machinery does not associate semantics with the permissions. It is up to the developer (and his sense for consistency and semantics) to choose properly named permissions. I did not yet see a document that describes rules/guidelines on how permissions are used to protect Zope methods. > (2) Also I am struggling then to make Zope check the=20 > AUTHENTICATED_USER against a property set for the folder which contains=20 > the authorised user's initials (which are the same as login name). Never use "objectValues" for objects that are not ObjectManagers. They define a stupid and unusable "objectValues" method. If your folder has a property called "User", then you would use: <dtml-if expr="AUTHENTICATED_USER.getUserName()=User"> If your "User" would not be a single user, but a list of users, the following would look promissing: <dtml-if expr="AUTHENTICATED_USER.getUserName() in User"> Good reading for people starting to learn Zope: the Zope Book (-> zope.org) and URL:http://www.dieter.handshake.de/pyprojects/zope/book/chap3.html Dieter

Re: [Zope] need help on mail attachment using dtml
by Dieter Maurer 18 Apr '01

Kam Nejad writes: > ... Mime attachment problem ... > <dtml-boundary type="application/octet-stream" > filename="REQUEST['elvis'].getId() encode=base64>... You forgot a '"' and "filename" does not accept an expression but only a literal, use "filename_expr" instead. Furthermore, though not impossible, it is unlikely that "REQUEST['elvis']" contains an object with a "getId" method. Let's assume it is a file object you just downloaded. Thus: <dtml-boundary type="application/octet-stream" filename_expr="elvis.filename" encode=base64 ><dtml-var "elvis.read()" ></dtml-mime> </dtml-sendmail> may work. Dieter

calling dtml-var from ZwikiPage; strange syntax
by John Hunter 18 Apr '01

18 Apr '01

If I have a Script (Python) python object with id HelloWorld in a ZWiki web which has just one line: return "Hello World" and then insert: <dtml-var HelloWorld> in one of my ZWikiPage's, the output when I view the ZWikiPage is Hello World> ^ unexpected angle bracket in ZWikiPage output If I change the ZWikiPage to just be <dtml-var HelloWorld ^ no closing angle bracket The 'Hello World' output is displayed with no improper angle bracket when I view the ZWikiPage. Is this a parser error or a feature. Thanks, John Hunter zope 2.3.0 python 1.5.2

All, We have a system that we need to track orders, inventory, etc. Pretty much an enterprise system. We also would like to be able to mirror and/or set up a distributed database. What system would you guys suggest for this task? This isn't very zope-specific, but Pointing the dns to your firewall's external ip + port forwarding should do it, I once had a similar setup (modulo dns and firewall, but the port forwarding part). Also a siteroot to rewrite zope's generated uris. While being offtopic for this list: You're really running a dns-service on your firewall, accessible from outside? cheers, oliver

Continuing Woe with Win98 (but Zope V1.10.3 works!)
by Paul Browning 18 Apr '01

A while back I reported a problem with Zope under Win98. The symptoms are that everything looks OK in the MS-DOS command window but that when you try and browse to http://localhost:8080 then nothing happens. A number of people made useful suggestions including making sure the was an entry in the Windoze LMHOSTS file but to no avail. As Zope did _once_ work on this particular PC I went back to Zope 2.1.6 as I had a hunch that this was version I had originally tried (the problems on started when I upgraded to a later version). However, no luck. Then, just for the hell of it, I installed Zope 1.10.3. IT WORKS (over port 9673)! Zope V1 isn't alot of use to me, but I thought I'd report my findings in case it causes any flashes of deduction amongst Windows gurus out there which might lead to a resolution of the problem. For the record, the M$ Personal Web Server (or whatever it's called), works just fine - browsing to http://localhost does what you'd expect. Cheers. Why SELECT * from query where field like "100*"; doesn't work in Z SQL Method? It works in Access. Mariusz

calling a method
by Ulrike Ainser 18 Apr '01

Hello eveybody, maybe someone on this maillinglist can help me?! I have got a method 'attribute_index' in the folder 'attribute' of the path '/sap_root/leaves/attributes' defined, that displays a tree as it is given in the Quick Start Tutorial of Zope . I'd like to call this method out of the DTML file 'index_html' in the folder 'attribute' of the path '/sap_root/documentation/attribute'. How can I do that? I already tried: ***index_html*** <html> <dtml-var "sap_root.leaves.merkmale.merkmale_index()"> </html> and <html> <dtml-var sap_root.leaves.merkmale.merkmale_index> </html> ****** what did I do wrong?
