PythonScript equivalent to dtml-with only
by Jerome Alet 11 Apr '01

11 Apr '01

Hi, I want to create a list of folders which really contain an index_html DTML document or DTML method, how to do that in PythonScript ? What I've done is: --- CUT --- mylist = [] for folder in context.objectValues(['Folder']) : if hasattr(folder, 'index_html') : mylist.append(folder) return mylist --- CUT --- The problem with the above code is that if index_html is acquired from the parent folders my hasattr test is true. I want it to be false in the case of acquisition. Please could someone tell me how to do ? thanks in advance Jerome Alet - alet(a)unice.fr - http://cortex.unice.fr/~jerome Fac de Medecine de Nice http://wwwmed.unice.fr Tel: (+33) 4 93 37 76 30 Fax: (+33) 4 93 53 15 15 28 Avenue de Valombrose - 06107 NICE Cedex 2 - FRANCE

Any suggestions here? You need to leverage the "PUT hook", described in the fishbowl at: http://dev.zope.org/Wikis/DevSite/Proposals/HookablePUTCreation Basically, the hook allows you to write a PythonScript (or ExternalMethod) 'PUT_factory', to override the default machinery which tries to figure out the kind of object to make when an FTP/HTTP PUT is done to a non-existent object. Sample External Method:: #Implement the "hookable PUT" hook. import re, OFS.DTMLMethod TEXT_PATTERN = re.compile( '^text/.*$' ) def PUT_factory( self, name, typ, body ): """ """ if TEXT_PATTERN.match( typ ): return OFS.DTMLMethod.DTMLMethod( '', __name__=name ) return None Tres. -- =============================================================== Tres Seaver tseaver(a)digicool.com Digital Creations "Zope Dealers" http://www.zope.org

ext.method to pythonscript - simple question

Create a python script 'gettext' and paste the following into the body: ------------- begin gettext ------------- def urlencode(dict): """Encode a dictionary of form entries into a URL query string.""" from Products.PythonScripts.standard import url_quote_plus from string import join l = [] for k, v in dict.items(): k = url_quote_plus(str(k)) v = url_quote_plus(str(v)) l.append(k + '=' + v) return join(l, '&') dict = {'message': 'Do you understand now?', 'name':'Zope Lover','status':'done'} params = urlencode(dict) return params ------------- end gettext ------------- The main problem is that you cannot import urllib into a python script, nor is there a direct equivalent of urlencode available to the script. However you can copy the definition of urlencode from urllib, and the two functions you need urllib.quote_plus and string.join are both importable (or the equivalent function is). The next problem is that the urlencode function cannot access variables in the script outside itself, so the imports need to be moved into the function. You could also define urlencode as a separate python script if you want to reuse it, but if you only need it in one place if can just be a local function. -- Duncan Booth duncan(a)rcp.co.uk

Debugging tip: Actual HTTP Request with PDB & emacs, also applicable to other IDEs
by Andrew Athan 11 Apr '01

11 Apr '01

Perhaps I am missing some basic technique, but I don't believe this is documented anywhere, including the numerous debugging how-to's I've read. First, this simple technique for debugging Zope & Zope products within emacs amounts to: 1) Make some simple changes to emacs configs 2) Make some simple changes to Zope so that it handles requests single threaded 3) Specify where in the Zope (or your) code the debugger should start 4) Run pdb-mode in emacs, telling it to start Zope I don't think Test.py cuts it for me because I want to be able to see the response in a browser, and I like to interact with the dugger in an IDE (for me, emacs). The big problem was that the default PubCore behavior involves a separate thread which handles the request, and this wreaks havoc on pdb & on emacs' comint mode. The details have to do with the fact that pdb does not track thread creation & switching, etc. So, now the details: 1) Make some simple changes to emacs configs 1.A) I assume you're running the latest emacs with decently current python & gud modes. 1.B) Put this into your .emacs if you're running on win32: (setq gud-pdb-marker-regexp "^> \$[-a-zA-Z0-9_/.:\\]*\\|<string>\$(\$[0-9]+\$)\$[a-zA-Z0-9_]*\\|\\?\$( )\$->[^\n]*\$?\n") 2) Make some simple changes to Zope so that it handles requests single threaded This amounts to replacing the contents of __init__.py in PubCore with the lines following the ============= at the bottom of this message 3) Specify where in the Zope (or your) code the debugger should start Put import pdb at the very top of one of the Zope product files, even at the top of z2.py and pdb.set_trace() at the spot you want to start debugging from. I bet with some name space trickery you can make this happen inside a DTML document. Haven't tried yet. 4) Run pdb-mode in emacs, telling it to start Zope M-x pdb enter the following as the command, assuming a win32 platform and my setup: D:\Zope\bin\python.exe -i D:\Zope\z2.py -D -t 1 When your set_trace() call gets hit, you will be dropped into the debugger, and emacs will load the right file and move around with you as you use debugging commands. Enter "continue" and Zope will go along its merry way and return the results of your page to the browser, and wait for the next request. I hope this saves someone the 2 hours of reading Zope, medusa, and other sources that I spent. If this is totally misguided and there is a simpler technique, I'm all ears!! A. =================== import ZRendezvous from ZPublisher import publish_module _handle=None _n=1 def _simple_handle(name,request,response): print name, request, response try: publish_module( name, request=request, response=response) finally: response._finish() def handle(*args, **kw): global _handle global _n if _handle is None: if _n==1: _handle = _simple_handle else: _handle=ZRendezvous.ZRendevous(_n).handle return apply(_handle, args, kw) def setNumberOfThreads(n): global _n _n=n global setNumberOfThreads del setNumberOfThreads

Help with Search in Zope
by Bobby Mathew 11 Apr '01

11 Apr '01

Hi I am a newbie to Zope and have been trying to get ZCatalogs to work with indexing my postgres data to be avaiable for search within my site. I have no clues on how this is possible (if possible at all?). I am able to follow the examples on the site to have the search working on the DTML documents etc. But I want to be able to search my database content. Can any one guide me on this please ? Having some {very} rudimentary trouble translating External Python Method work done many moons ago into [Zope]PythonScripts. If someone could shine just a little light apples-for-apples, I would really appreciate it. ExternalMethod #gettext.py def gettext(self): print "gettext" params = urllib.urlencode({'message': Do you understand now?','name':'Zope Lover','status':'done'}) return params Please what is the correct syntax for this as PythonScript in Zope231? thanks - Jason ___________________________________________________________ Jason CUNLIFFE = NOMADICS['Interactive Art and Technology']
