Its purpose is to prevent concurrent modifications to the same document which would necessarily destroy one of the modifications. The safety belt can not prevent such desaster but can provide for a clean error message (that's what you get). When a ZWiki page is exported (for modification), its last modification time is put in its content. When it comes back, this content timestamp is compared against the last modification time. If there is a mismatch, the error occurs. I think, if you do not like this feature, you can discard the timestamp from your content. Changing source can, of cause, get completely rid of this safety feature.... Dieter

Problem with passing objects from External Methods
by Jason Joy 10 Apr '01

10 Apr '01

This one has been driving me a bit crazy and I think there is a simple solution to this. I have written an external method to return a list of objects back to a DTML method which executes the code via a dtml-in. The dtml code looks like: <dtml-in processMethod(passthis)> <dtml-var sequence-index><dtml-var data><BR> </dtml-in> And this is passthis.py: import string, regex def passthis(passed): class element: pass info = [] structures = string.split(passed) for structure in structures: bit = element() ## Get Information here, and store it in foo. bit.data = foo bit.source = structure info.append(bit) return(info) --- When I run the code, I get a box that asks me to revalidate my Zope login and nothing works, finally, the system gives up and gives me an error with this at the bottom: File /usr/local/Zope-2.3.0/lib/python/AccessControl/ZopeSecurityPolicy.py, line 168, in validate Unauthorized: data Does anyone have any advice on this one? This is an example of what I am doing and I need to pass a list of objects (with about 10 properties on each) to be run through a dtml-in. Thanks, Jason ____________________________________________________________________ Get free email and a permanent address at http://www.netaddress.com/?N=1

any known bugs wrt transactions never being committed?
by Randall F. Kern 10 Apr '01

10 Apr '01

In particular, I'm running Zope 2.3.1 and PostgreSQL 7.1b4, (tried both PoPy and ZPsycopg). The (very annoying!) problem I'm having is the postgres backend is blocking on a transaction that should have already been committed (but wasn't). It seems that a transaction from an earlier request is not being aborted or committed, but rather just left hanging. There are no hung requests, i.e. every page we request we get back in the browser. Any ideas? Thanks! -Randy

Problems with the catalog
by Antonio João Costa 10 Apr '01

10 Apr '01

Hi I'm having problems with ZCatalog and discouvered that the source to my problems is the way ZCatalog catalogs the underscore character(_). When it gets this character the catalog splits the strings. Example: 'qq_root' is indexed ('qq','root'), instead of ('qq_root') Is there any way of bypass this problem without having to change ZCatalog? I'm working in Python directly. Thanks in advance. Distribution of ZClass Product
by Stefan Mallepell 10 Apr '01

10 Apr '01

Hi I would like to distribute a ZClass Product from my Developing Server (Laptop ;) ) to my real public ZopeServer. I tryed the Distribution-Tab ... but I coudn't install it on my public Server. The tar.gz file contained a lib/python/Products/prodName directory and in that directory I found __init__.py, product.dat and version.txt . I copied the prodName directory (including the three files) to my lib/python/Products directory and restarted the server ... nothing happend ... So I transfered it via Import/Export - it worked and I started to run the website including some of my new objects. But now I developed further on my laptop and I would like to transfer the newer version of my product to the public server ... hmm ... well I tryed to play again the import export game ... this didn't worked, corse the MetaName was already inuse (well my Product which I like to update is using it - of corse) ... so I first deleted the Product on the public Server and imported the newer version - but now the new attributes are not available on the instances of the classes ... after a reboot of the server it worked properly * Now my questions. What have I done wrong in the proper way of distribution Zclass products? Is my "Export - delete - Import - reboot - Version" a valid way of doing it? Or do I wake up with a broken Database, crashed Webside, damaged installation? I'm sorry that I'm such a newbie ... but I really apriciate the help of this MailingList ... Re: [Zope] LAST_INSERT_ID and ZMySQLDA
by paul_s_johnson＠urscorp.com 10 Apr '01

10 Apr '01

Thanks for the tip! I had to do one other thing to get it work (this will hopefully help someone else down the road): When I did the SELECT this way: SELECT LAST_INSERT_ID() AS LastID I got this error: Error, _mysql.OperationalError: (1064, "You have an error in your SQL syntax near 'LIMIT 1000' at line 1") So I changed the "Maximum number of rows retrieved" property to zero to make that go away. So it still did not work when I tried your suggestion: SELECT filetypes_id where filetypes_id=LAST_INSERT_ID() However when I switched the "Maximum number of rows retrieved" property to something greater than zero it worked! Apparently the former SELECT statement is incompatible with the LIMIT clause that is tacked on by the "Maximum number of rows retrieved" property being greater than zero. Stated the way you suggest makes it compatible with a LIMIT clause. Thanks again. P.S. For me it was not necessary to explicitly insert a NULL or 0 value into the AUTO_INCREMENT field. Well this is not really a Zope question but since I just ported an sqlserver7 app to mySQL, I have the answer. 1) Name the auto_increment column in the column list 2) supply 0 or null as the value 3) To get the last_insert_id, the sytax is a little different, see below. Yours: INSERT INTO FileTypes (FileType, Extension) VALUES ("AutoCAD","DWG") <dtml-var sql_delimiter> SELECT LAST_INSERT_ID() AS LastID Changed (where filetypes_id is the name of your auto_increment column): INSERT INTO FileTypes (filetypes_id,FileType, Extension) VALUES (0,"AutoCAD","DWG") <dtml-var sql_delimiter> SELECT filetypes_id where filetypes_id=LAST_INSERT_ID() This was one of several issues I had to overcome, thank-you google. > ------------ Original Message ----------- > From: paul_s_johnson(a)urscorp.com <paul_s_johnson(a)urscorp.com> > Date: Tue, 10 Apr 2001 12:36:17 -0500 > > I have created a ZSQL method with an INSERT statement and a SELECT > statement containing a LAST_INSERT_ID function in it. How can I do that? You define your own "branches" method or "branches_expr" expression filtering away what you do not like. Dieter

Almost surely, you call "A" in the wrong way from "C", breaking the namespace/acquisition chain: DTML objects have 2 positional parameters: "client" and "REQUEST". When called automatically from DTML, these parameters are passed as "None" and "_". This way the namespace is passed into the called DTML object. If you call a DTML object explicitly, you must make sure to pass either a senseful "client" or a senseful "REQUEST". Otherwise, a DTML method will have no context at all while a DTML document only has its own containment context. More details in the DTML section of URL:http://www.dieter.handshake.de/pyprojects/zope/book/chap3.html Dieter
