One of the differences between running a method from the trigger tab and from the Dispatcher is permissions. At the trigger tab, the method runs with your permissions; when fired from the Dispatcher, the method runs as Anonymous User. You must us "proxy roles" to give the method sufficient permissions to do what you want it to do. If the Sheduled Time is advancing as planned, the Dispatcher is firing the event. It's hard to imagine how it could fire the event but not make an entry in the log. RE: [Zope] Apache virtual host combined with Zope

> I don't know about FastCGI, but mod_pcgi2 can handle > entire tree (Zope serves root of a virtual host) or > subtree (Zope serves subdirectory of a site) without any > special hacks. Yeah, so can ProxyPass. > What exactly is your problem? Well, I just don't know how it's done. I must confess that I haven't investigated this too far, maybe with some reading about the syntax of Apache's FastCGI directive I could find the answer. To use FastCGI to serve a virtual, I'd have the vitual defined in my httpd.conf something like this: <VirtualHost 1.2.3.4> ServerAdmin gimbo(a)ftech.net ServerName foo.bar.com ErrorLog logs/foo_error.log CustomLog logs/foo_access.log common FastCgiExternalServer /usr/local/apache/htdocs/foo \ -host localhost:8889 \ -pass-header Authorization SetHandler fastcgi-script </VirtualHost> Looking at that, I can't see any way to tell it to pass the request to a subdirectory of the Zope tree being served up by the ZServer listening on 8889. So the effect is that foo.bar.com is a virtual for the entire Zope tree instead. Which is fine if that's what you want, but not if you want to serve subtrees. As I say, maybe there's another parameter to FastCgiExternalServer which does it, but I haven't found it. I haven't looked too hard, either, mind. ;-) -Andy -- Andy Gimblett <andy.gimblett(a)ftech.net> Programmer Frontier Internet Services Limited <www.frontier-internet.ltd.uk> Tel: 029 20 820 044 Fax: 029 20 820 035 Statements made are at all times subject to Frontier's Terms and Conditions of Business, which are available upon request.

RE: [Zope] Problem with checking roles an authenticated user has
by Randall F. Kern 07 Apr '01

The problem is the way HTTP Auth was designed. According to the HTTP specification, the browser only needs to send credentials after having received a 401 (Unauthorized) HTTP response code from the server, and only for that one request. The idea is that HTTP is stateless, so each and every request the browser makes would be met with a 401 response, and then the browser would send the credentials in a second request, and finally the server would validate the credentials and respond with the data. Now this is rather slow (2 requests for every page), so most browsers have optimized their implementation by automatically sending credentials for any URL below a URL the server required authentication for, on the first request. What this means is you can sort of work around you problem by having people log into your site in the root. A login method in the root of your site will work for this. The other solution is to use cookie based authentication. (I think there are several products on zope.org that provide this functionality.) -Randy > -----Original Message----- > From: Richard Ettema [mailto:richard.ettema@yoursolutions.co.uk] > Sent: Saturday, April 07, 2001 5:05 AM > To: zope(a)zope.org > Subject: [Zope] Problem with checking roles an authenticated user has > > > Hi, > > I have a site which includes a members area. Hi Henny, I've just finished my final year university project, which aimed to investigate the use of Zope in educational insitutions and create a useful product. I study at the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow, Scotland) and from what I gather, there are some people here that are quite keen to see Zope deployed. Info: http://www.cs.strath.ac.uk/~duncan/teaching/projects/zeus.html My project was called ZAPHOD and is primarily for maintaining class details & student attendance/academic records - but it has some other functionality too. One of my fellow students undertook a similar project, called ZEALOUS, which had similar goals but his product was a Web course development tool allowing lecturers to maintain a class Web page, and provide student with tailoired personal homepages. If you are looking for any more information feel free to ask. I'm pretty sure that my project supervisor, Duncan Smeed, would be quite entertaining if you had any questions relating to Zope's future at the University of Strathclyde. I know of two other major projects already fully(?) developed and employed in the UK. Here are some notes I took a while back (including some URLs and universities where Zope is used... -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ ASPIRE [http://medico.uwcm.ac.uk/media/lt/projects/aspire/default.htm] ASPIRE is a Web-based authoring and tutorial environment, which is being developed at the University of Wales' College of Medicine by the Learning Technology section. It was originally developed using PHP3 and is now being migrated to Zope. ASPIRE provides a number of tools to facilitate Web page creation containing HTML, interactive questions, images, etc. These web pages will form the basis for an interactive quiz, where students will proceed through a sequence of pages containing multiple choice, or text entry questions. -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ NLE / TLTP3-86 [http://nle.ncl.ac.uk/nle] [http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/nle/about/] The TLTP3-86 project is being developed in collaboration with representatives from the Universities of Newcastle, Durham, Nottingham, Sheffield, and Northumbria. It aims to disseminate IT based approaches developed to facilitate and support the interactive learning of medical and health care science students based in sites remote from the university campuses The NLE is not a product but a process by which institutions can implement on-line learning support tools in their own context [NLE 1998]. The project is funded by the Teaching and Learning Technology Programme (TTLP) and is being developed as part of the TLTP3-86 project. NLE systems have 3 major components - Mediguides, Personal Academic Records (PARs) and SATURN. MediGuides - A MediGuide is a learning resource containing study guides, links to course material (e.g. Word documents), online multiple-choice questionnaires, timetable information and other forms of CAL (Computer-Aided Learning) resources. For every course taught there is a corresponding MediGuide. Personal Academic Record (PAR) - Personal Academic Records will improve student / teacher communication and will encourage students to monitor their academic progress. Each MediGuide will contain self-evaluation tests and a student / teachers email system to facilitate this. The student's assessment data will be stored in the PAR and made available for viewing by both the student and the teacher. SATURN - The SATURN system is responsible for storing the student's personal data, examination marks and any other relevant administrative data. The system will primarily be used by the faculty offices to distribute documents to the students throughout the course. Hope that help you out. If you've got any question on ZAPHOD or ZEALOUS I'd be happy to answer them. I can provide you with a few screen shots too if you wish. Is there anywhere I can read / see your system? I'm quite interested to see how it operates. Site with theme [newbie]
by Philippe Jadin 07 Apr '01

07 Apr '01

[newbie] Hello, After a long search I didn't find the right way to do this : I have differents folders in my site, with subfolders, such as : /en /web /contact /links /info /fr /work /about /links All those folders have a file arbitrary called "content.txt". It's the textual content of each page. In the root there is a file called template.html which calls the file "content.txt". I also have one index_html which calls template.html. Because I didn't want to have my template in two separate files (header and footer). Now, I'd like to have differents themes for my site. Such as having : www.domain.com/theme1/en/web would display the content of "en/web" with the template.html file in theme1 www.domain.com/theme2/en/web would display the content of 'en/web" with the template.html file in theme2 But it doesn't work... There is something in acquisition that I don't understand. Either I get the content of my root folder (yes, this is a subsite in a subfolder), or I get the same content wherever I go. What should I put in each theme folder? Where should I put my index_html file? Is it a bad idea to get rid of standards footer and headers files and replacing them with template.html? Is there any other way to do this? A siteaccess rule? (if possible, I'd like to do this only by using a "feature" of acquisition...) I found no tutorial on this, so any pointer welcome ! Thank you Philippe Jadin P.S. the actual site is at : http://www.123piano.com:8080/

Okay, I think the old version of our CMS system did not like the new Zope too much. I have taken this demo out of the site (since it was not available in anyway) and ran 'wget' extensively (I started 100 threads running a recursive wget). If you still experience difficulties, please let me know. Problem with checking roles an authenticated user has
by Richard Ettema 07 Apr '01

07 Apr '01

Hi, I have a site which includes a members area. When a member logs in, extra features are made available on all pages compared to a non-member. The problem is that sometimes the authenticated_user test I use does not come back true once someone has logged in. This problem does not occur all the time or with any particular page. It is being very unpredictable! This is the dtml-if (placed in the standard_html_header) I use to check... <dtml-if "AUTHENTICATED_USER.has_role('a_member') or AUTHENTICATED_USER.has_role('Manager')"> Any ideas what my problem could be? Thanks for any ideas Richard

RAD with 'mk-zprod'
by vio 07 Apr '01

07 Apr '01

This RAD tool for Zope looks very interesting. But I couldn't find any reference whatsoever regarding it on this list. Is anybody using it ?? Second question, same topic: could someone tell me WHERE exactly do I paste the make_action() code . The README file is not at all clear on this point, IMHO. Let's say I succesfully generated Zope code for a Product called "myProduct" and copied that directory to 'zope/lib/python/Products/myProduct'. Then I pasted the make_action() code from 'mk-prod/tmpl/example-code.txt' inside file "Products/myProduct./myProduct.py" (inside "class myProduct" source). Well, Zope restarts OK and I see my new Product in the "Add" list. But when I attempt to add a first myProduct object, Zope gives me "NameError: make_action". I interpret this error message as it didn't find make_action(). So, any idea in what file make_action() code must go ? Regards - Vio
