CatalogAware Error in 2.3.1 Final

I get this traceback from an attempt to create any ZClass instance that subclasses DTML Document and is CatalogAware. I tested 2.3.1b2 pretty extensively. Did not test 2.3.1b3. Problem solved, but with more questions for Dieter, or whoever is willing to answer them; see below. > > > But the "Unauthorized" exception is already raised when > > > the catalogued object is looked up. > > Forgive my inexperience, but how do you know this? > > > REQUEST['AUTHENTICATED_USER']. > has_permission('Add EW Nav Links', > > REQUEST.resolve_url(BASE0+getpath(data_record_id_)))) > > raised the "Unauthorized" exception (according to your traceback). > > In this expression, only "REQUEST.resolve_url(...)" > and maybe "getpath" (if your user can not access the catalog, but > that seems unlikely) can raise this exception. > "REQUEST" and its methods are public, "has_permission" is public, > "BASE0" is public (as part of "REQUEST"). I guess I meant how do you know that "getpath" is unlikely to have caused the exception? I knew that this line raised the exception, but why couldn't it have come from "getpath"? I'm trying here to get at that experienced programmer thinking that says to you "that seems unlikely". Are you trusting that I haven't messed around with the catalog (given my inexperience, _that_ seems likely, and I haven't)? Presumably, in the default configuration, the catalog is viewable by all users, including "Anonymous", and as far as I know, that hasn't been modified. But isn't "getpath" going to cause an "Unauthorized" exception if the object referred to by "data_record_id" in that particular iteration of the loop is inaccessible, and not just if the catalog itself is inaccessible? Or does "getpath" not cause an access check? > > .... > > <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('YihawFolders', [])"> > > <dtml-in expr="Catalog({'meta_type':'Yihaw Folder'})"> > > <dtml-if > "REQUEST['AUTHENTICATED_USER'].has_permission('Add EW Nav Links', > > REQUEST.resolve_url(BASE0+getpath(data_record_id_)))"> > > <dtml-call "YihawFolders.append(getpath(data_record_id_))"> > > </dtml-if> > > </dtml-in> > > As a workaround, you could wrap your "if" into a "dtml-try". > If you get an "Unauthorized" exception, it should surely not be > in your "YihawFolders" list. > This is of course exactly what I needed to do, thank you. It turns out that users want to secure some folders from general access, which was not part of our original design, so the original programmer didn't take it into account. So now, with a nice little try/except, all is well again. Thanks much! BTW, Dieter, I've begun reading your book in the five minutes a day I laughingly refer to as my "free time." Excellent work! Returning to page after updating database
by Gitte Wange 02 Apr '01

Hello, I have a small problem that I cannot figure out. I display a form for editing some data. When the submit button is hitted, a method is called that first calls the SQL method for updating the database, then calls a page that I want to return to. But it never returns. How do you make a redirect ? Regards, -- ************************ Gitte Wange Jensen System Squid Developer MMManager Aps +45 29 72 79 72 gitte(a)mmmanager.org ************************

Remember, no DTML inside DTML, so we want something like: <dtml-call "REPONSE.redirect('index_html?ActionList=' + ActionList)"> Troy -----Original Message----- From: Gitte Wange [mailto:gitte@mmmanager.org] Sent: Monday, April 02, 2001 10:54 AM To: Laurie Nason Cc: zope(a)zope.org Subject: RE: [Zope] Returning to page after updating database Okay that worked. Now I want to redirect to the script with some arguments. I have tried to make a redirect like this: RESPONSE.redirect("index_html?ActionList=<dtml-var ActionList>") but I keep get an error. to zope or not
by Win GO 02 Apr '01

02 Apr '01

Hi everyone. I'm new to the list (and zope) and is trying to determine whether we should you Zope or not for an Intranet site we wish to deploy. I'm still not familiar with Zope but has been encountered it as alternative to using the apache and stuff. Would anyone tell me the PROs and CONs of using zope for an Intranet? How does it compare with using apache. Btw, among our concerns is that some of the intranet nodes will be using a touchscreen interface. Will that matter when considering zope. Updating multiple fields in the same Z SQL Method
by Gitte Wange 02 Apr '01

How do you update several fields in the same SQL method ? I just entered something like this: Update <table> set <field>=<dmtl data> where <field>=<dtml data> Update <table> set <field>=<dmtl data> where <field>=<dtml data> But I get an error because Zope just sees it as a whole line. How do I seperate them ? Regards, -- ************************ Gitte Wange Jensen System Squid Developer MMManager Aps +45 29 72 79 72 gitte(a)mmmanager.org ************************

I may be the fool, but if you read the article at perl.com, it's an april fool's joke. http://www.perl.com/pub/2001/04/01/parrot.htm Look at the code snippet: # copy stdin to stdout, except for lines starting with # while left_angle_right_angle: if dollar_underscore[0] =eq= "#": continue_next; } print dollar_underscore; } silliness :) Troy -----Original Message----- From: Jonathan [mailto:admin@ur.nl] Sent: Monday, April 02, 2001 9:39 AM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] Perl + Python = Parrot? Hi all, Just reading a press release on python.org: Perl and Python to begin joint development http://www.python.org/parrot.html I thought Guido and the rest of the Python crew worked at Digicool, but apparently he just accepted a job at ActiveState, together with Larry Wall. Where is this going? If Perl and Python are merging in the near future, we'll need to find another language to fight our language wars with ;) C# maybe? :) Cya Jonathan _______________________________________________ Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev )

Thanks, Dieter. 1) Is fine, assuming the ZSQL method is there. 2) The best of my options - I didn't even think of it. 3) Uh, that sounds like some deep zope wizardry. I'm still working on OFS.SimpleItem :) 4) I suppose I could even make my product inherit from an ObjectManager and let it contain ZSQL Methods - didnt' think of this one either, 'till now. Thanks, Troy -----Original Message----- From: Dieter Maurer [mailto:dieter@handshake.de] Sent: Sunday, April 01, 2001 2:29 PM To: Farrell, Troy Cc: zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] Zope Products and SQL Farrell, Troy writes: > Is there any way (aside from importing database modules ie PoPy) to execute > SQL from a Zope Product? Is it feasible to make the product inherit from > ZSQL methods and have them that way, or it is just easiest to use ZClasses? You can have many types of use of Z SQL methods from products: * use a Z SQL method instance located and managed in the Zope hierarchy. Such instances would usually be accessed through acquisition. * instantiate a new Z SQL method instance as part of your product instances * derive one of your product classes from Z SQL methods (though I think this is rather rare)
