"manage" screens don't appear on local workstation for Win2000
by Thomas B. Passin 02 Apr '01

02 Apr '01

I just moved my Zope installation to Windows 2000. Now when I try to use any management screens, I get the default index_html pages instead. So I can't change anything or develop content. I can still access the management screens from a separate computer, but I need to work on my own machine, the one that Zope is running on. Zope is running as a service, by the way. Same result with both Zope 2.2.6 and 2.3.0, even with a completely fresh clean installation. I had no problems like this on an NT4 server. I'm out of ideas - anyone have a solution? Tom Passin

But if you're saying that we don't send > back the content type on the source port, then that's gotta be a bug. It doesn't. But one of the reasons that it doesn't is that a DTML Method can actually impersonate a lot of things, just by having the first line being: Content-type: application/x-msword DTML Methods themselves don't know that this is set until render time, so the content type WebDAV property never quite works with them. I *believe* ZPT should be architected to handle this issue better, but DTML Methods never were. This is the biggest thing though that I'd like to see fixed in the next GoLive - better content sniffing. I believe it should at least *try* to open something it doesn't recognize. But then again, if you have the items 'connect' and 'openConnection' in a folder, can you tell which one is a database connection? I'm guessing that GoLive 5 errs on the side of conservatism by trying *not* to open unrecognized objects, since WebDAV is also being used by others as a way of getting data into an object database and, like in Zope, not everything is easily rendered into something that can be edited over WebDAV. > 2) I guess the answer here is the same as (1). Yep. You'll need the Zope trunk/ Zope 2.4 for this. If you want to make your own objects lockable, you should read over the document in the WriteLocking project at dev.zope.og: http://dev.zope.org/Wikis/DevSite/Projects/WriteLocking/BeingLockable Jeffrey P Shell, jeffrey(a)Digicool.com http://www.digicool.com/ | http://www.zope.org

Re: [Zope] MySQL Database Connector

Reading the Zope book about relational databases, (I need to do the same thing you are doing) I see that I must install MySQL DA. The Chapter about relational data bases has examples of some connection strings for PostGres. Here is a URlL for ZmyslqDa http://www.zope.org/Members/mordred/ZMySQLDA Here is a somewhat dated howto install the Mysql DA on SUSE 6.5 Linux http://lists.suse.com/archives/suse-linux-e/2000-Aug/0156.html I have SUSE 7.1 with the mysql and zope that came with the package. Hope this helps. how to pass REQUEST from DTML mthd to script?
by Dave Still 02 Apr '01

02 Apr '01

Hello all, I'm sure this is a terribly newbie question, but couldn't concoct a useful search of the archives. Feel free to just point me to some reference if appropriate. First I'll show what does work, and then a variation on it that doesn't work. --------- Example #1 (this works - REQUEST is passed to the script): DTML Method 'foo' <form method="get" action="processForm"> ... </form> Python Script 'processForm' (parameter list = REQUEST) ... do something with REQUEST ... ---------- Example #2 (doesn't work - REQUEST isn't passed to script) DTML Method 'foo' <form method="get" action="processFormResponse"> ... </form> DTML Method 'processFormResponse' <dtml-call processForm> Python Script 'processForm' (parameter list = REQUEST) ... do something with REQUEST... With this sequence, I get an error that indicates REQUEST is not being passed to the script. Questions: 1. In example #2, how can I make REQUEST get passed to script automatically, as it is in example #1? 2. In example #2, how can I explicitly pass the REQUEST object from the DTML method 'processFormResponse' to Python script 'processForm' using <dtml-call>? Thanks for any help at all, Dave __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get email at your own domain with Yahoo! Mail. http://personal.mail.yahoo.com/?.refer=text

Thomas, what happens when you explicitly request a management page: http://localhost:8080/index_html/manage_main ? If you get index_html, then we have a permissions problem, possible domain related, If you get a management window, then I'm inclined to say that your browser is caching something (then again, I've been wrong an aweful lot today :) Troy -----Original Message----- From: Thomas B. This works almost perfectly. There is one small correction, though: the _prepend method you give prevents regular registration from any later object, because self._append is defined as self._objects.append earlier on; this means that further _append() calls will append to the wrong sequence. A more correct version is: def _prepend(self, object): self._objects[0:0] = [object] Thanks again, Shai.

Folderish documents
by Nolan Darilek 02 Apr '01

02 Apr '01

I'm hacking on ZWiki, trying to create a subclass of the ZWikiPage which acts as a folder which can contain other ZWikiPages. Much of the work for this product is done. It behaves folderish, items can be added, management tabs appear . . . but the contents of the folder don't appear. Instead, I get a message saying something like: 'There are no items in <string>' even if contents are a) added and b) viewable. I really don't know what could be causing this, whether the error is in me, ZWiki, or OFS. I don't receive any errors, but this contents problem has bugged me for days, and I don't have any leads on a solution. What additional information can I provide? Can anyone offer any suggestions? Thanks.
