Problems with 2.3.1
by Cyril Elkaim 03 Apr '01

Hi, Hmm, I think that there is something wrong with 2.3.1. I've download the source version of Zope And found the following problems: - Mozilla 0.8.1 can't correctly displays <select> lists. This was corrected through a patch but this patch has, apparently, not found its home inside 2.3.1. - I've competing write conflicts inside Connection.py, that error didn't happen before. Error follows: ------ 2001-04-02T08:34:43 INFO(0) Z2 CONFLICT Competing writes at, /da/ihm/fiche_soins Traceback (innermost last): File /home/zope/Zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 175, in publish File /home/zope/Zope/lib/python/Zope/__init__.py, line 235, in commit File /home/zope/Zope/lib/python/ZODB/Transaction.py, line 252, in commit File /home/zope/Zope/lib/python/ZODB/Connection.py, line 270, in commit ConflictError: '\000\000\000\000\000\000/\212' - When starting Zope with an existing Data.fs I've many warnings saying that products can't be installed. Eventually the system works. hi folks, in keeping with the recent string of positive news. zope received a very positive evaluation in WebTechniques Magazine in the April 2001 issue. the review is on-line at: www.webtechniques.com/archives/2001/infrrevu/ all in all fairly accurate. ciao! greg. For those who might care about it, there's an ~ 1/3 page article about Zope in the Pings&Packets section of EWeek magazine for April 2, 2001. And, for those of you who have never seen his visage, it includes a picture of Paul Everitt! Jeff Sasmor jeff(a)sasmor.com

Parrot Language a Hoax?
by Jonathan Byron 03 Apr '01

03 Apr '01

The date of the press release on the merger of python and perl have made a few people wonder just how serious it is, not to mention the fact that the two languages are so dissimilar that merging them is like merging English and Chinese. Seriously, how do you reconcile a concise language with one right way to do something with a flexible language that lets you do something anyway you want?? Something that was designed to be OO from the start with something that wasn't?? Would any existing scripts in either Python or Perl run on the new Parrot language? Or is it part of the Babylon of new languages - Yet Another Language to Learn?? On the other hand, even though Parrot may be a hoax, the idea is not dead, deceased, or expired - merely sleeping. JB

Re: [Zope] zSQl and changing connection ids?
by Dieter Maurer 03 Apr '01

David Hassalevris writes: > .... A Z SQL method consists of the connection id, the parameters and the SQL template You want to share the parameters and the template but vary the connection id. I think it is not a good idea to dynamically change the connection id to handle this case. You object would be changed continously and create lots of artificial versions - a bad thing. I would create several SQL methods that share a common SQL template. I fear, you would need to replicate the parameter parts. Thus, you would have: Z SQL method<n>: Connection: different ones according to object Parameters: explicit copies of the parameter list Template: <dtml-var common-template> It may be (I fear it will be) that you can not use "dtml-sql*" tags in "common-template". In this case, you have 2 options: * emulate the "dtml-sql*" tags by normal tags * make a small product that makes the "dtml-sql*" tags generally available Dieter

(ie. programming/scripting languages, html, etc.) * How long will such learning process take? (before we can have a running and functioning site) __________________________________ www.edsamail.com

Re: [Zope] PageTemplates - TAL configuration
by Philip Aylesworth 03 Apr '01

>> Error Type: AttributeError >> Error Value: _v_blocks > This is a strange one. I'll have to try installing a setup like > yours from > scratch to see if I can replicate it; My CVS checkouts work fine. I am getting the exact same thing. I have RedHat 7.0 with a fresh install of Zope 2.3.1 and only TAL 1.0.0 and PageTemplates 1.0.0 added. I tried previously with ParsedXML-1.0, as well, and got the same error. Do I need ParsedXML-1.0? The TAL seems to work fine from the command line using the test script. -- Philip Aylesworth Purple Duck Computer Services

Unpickling errors with 2.3.1 & ZEO
by Chris McDonough 03 Apr '01

03 Apr '01

Just FYI... we've been able to reproduce errors reported by bak@kedai regarding "stack underflow errors" using Zope 2.3.1 in conjunction with ZEO. We're working on a fix now. The problem does not seem to happen in Zope 2.3.1 without ZEO. I'll keep you posted.
