DynPersist is part of the code you downloaded, but it's a C module. To compile: cd lib/python/Products/PlugIns cp ../../Makefile.pre.in . make -f Makefile.pre.in boot make Restart Zope. Has anybody run Zope with OpenBSD 2.7 more than a week?
by Ricardo Bermell 28 Mar '01

28 Mar '01

My Zope server is consuming sockets at a speed of 60 sockets/day. This will put my OpenBSD shell without file descriptors in about 16 days. My Zope will crash. My Zope has no much utilization (3 programmers/users at the moment). In a exploitation environment it would crash sooner. 'ulimit' does not solve the problem. When i restart Zope all the jammed sockets are freed, but i would like to have a Zope server whith near to none manual reparations. Do really anybody runs Zope (any version) in OpenBSD 2.7 a long (up)time without failure? I've been more than two months trying it, without success. Please help.

How-To: Building Zope and Python on Mac OS X
by tom smith 28 Mar '01

28 Mar '01

hi, I'm fairly new to unix so please bear with me. I installed python on a UFS volume. When at the CLI I try... /Volumes/unix/Python/python python2 comes up fine. However, when I try and run the wo_pcgi.py script as mentioned in the How-To, nothing seems to happen. When I try to run zope...like this... /Volumes/unix/Python/python z2.py The same thing, I'm just returned to the prompt. (Unusual things do seem to be happening to permissions when Classic and OSX are involved with the same directories) have I missed something else? So close... cheers tom p.s With help...I did manage to get zope on MacOS Public going, so there's hope p.p.s Has anybody connected zope to FrontBase or OpenBase yet?

Greetings Zope Newbies

Hi Zope fans, Many newbies are jumping in to Zope and it can be pretty overwhelming, at first. Well, at can stay overwhelming for awhile, too. That can make it all the more difficult to discern the forest when all you can see is the next tree you're about to slam into. On the other hand, for those who have been Zoping for awhile, it is hard not to notice the signs of a trend upward in Zope development. Can you say "exponential"? Taking a moment to scan the big Zope picture, here's a summary of several critical Core Zope releases recently announced on these lists: Zope 2.3.1 approaching final release: http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope-announce/2001-March/000393.html Zope CMF (aka PTK) approaching v.1 final release: http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope-announce/2001-March/000383.html Zope Page Templates v.1 http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope/2001-March/086591.html Zope Parsed XML v.1 http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope-announce/2001-March/000394.html Pyperl v.1.0.1 http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope-perl/2001-March/000242.html plus lot's of books and documentation underway, including: http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope-announce/2001-March/000386.html http://www.dieter.handshake.de/pyprojects/zope/book/chap1.html http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope-announce/2001-March/000380.html and of course, work on Python continues apace: http://mail.python.org/pipermail/python-list/2001-March/034942.html Finally, just a small sample of links to an ever growing list of contributed modules, How-Tos, and handy extensions from the Global Zope Community, below: http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope-announce/2001-March/000379.html http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope-announce/2001-March/000381.html http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope-announce/2001-March/000384.html http://www.zope.org/Members/aeg/ZDatabaseTool_first_release http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope-announce/2001-March/000387.html http://www.zope.org/Members/Kaivo/EvalTag_HowTo/EvalTag Be prepared for EXCITING Times in Zopetopia! Can ZClass and ZCatalog do this?
by Brad Clements 28 Mar '01

28 Mar '01

I've done all of my Zope work using an SQL backend. One of my customers wants to distribute his Zope "site" on CDROM, so I'm thinking that ZCatalog and ZClasses are the better way to go for his project. He needs to store information on about 1500 companies. Each company can be in one or more categories, have company description, contact info, maybe a .gif.. Each company has one or more products with product info, maybe a .gif Companies should be able to edit some, but not all, of their own attributes through the web. So a company might be able to change it's own address or telephone number, but not it's company name. Anonymous users want to lookup data by category selection, or full text search of company descriptive text or product text. (here's the hard part) But the results must be listed sorted by "those with web sites, email address and telephone number first alpha by company name", then "those with just email and telephone alpha by company name", then "those with telephone alpha by company name" then all the rest, alpha by company name. In SQL I'd just use a "order by website, email, telephone, companyname" because Interbase throws Nulls to the end. How do I do this in ZCatalog? What's the best way to allow companies to change their own objects? I was thinking of making a ZCompany based on a ContentManager, then put a user folder in the instantiated ZCompany objects. But how do I control access to limit which properties a "not-full-owner" can change? Suggestions welcome.. Also I think this data could be freely distributed later, if folks want to use it as an example application.
