Counter Rentrancy
by David Kyte 28 Mar '01

Hi, If I have a DTML document for generating and tracking say order numbers, is the code rentrant/Atomic? <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('counter', counter + 1)"> <dtml-call "manage_changeProperties( counter=REQUEST['counter'] )"> <dtml-return counter > What I'm really asking is how many threads run in parallel, and how would multiple threads accessing this code react. Do I need some form of transation or locking? Thanks in anticipation David Kyte

Use Zope 2.3.1b2 or earlier, or a later Zope release when one comes out, or a Zope checkout from after Mar 27 2001, and it should work fine. -- Karl Anderson karl(a)digicool.com

Until it is implemented, you can do it yourself in an External Method or (maybe) a Python Script, using Python's built-in "sort" method. Search for the thread (very new) to get some ideas. Dieter

This may give you a hint. Often they produce a "core" file, when they die. However, some configuration experts disable the core generation. Reenable them and see whether you get one. Then you can look into them with a debugger. Dieter

Where are your archived documents: in ZODB, in a relational database, in the file system? How is the hierachical structure defined? There is a HowTo on advanced "tree" use on zope.org. Maybe, you look at it. Dieter

401 Error with WebDAV and GoLive on 2.3.0 (actually, 2.3.0-4/Debi an)
by sean.upton＠uniontrib.com 28 Mar '01

28 Mar '01

While I realize this might be a Debian packaging issue, I wanted to see if anybody has had this problem: GoLive can't synchronize (write-over) a document; I get a 401 Error. I don't have this problem with a 2.3.0 Solaris install or a 2.2.1 install on my development (Linux) box, so I assume that either: a hotfix applied as part of the Debian package caused this problem or GoLive doesn't like the non-standard port (9673). I adjusted the port to 8080 when starting zope, and still no Luck, so I don't think it is GoLive. So, perhaps, it seems that either a security hotfix applied broke the WebDAV connectivity, or there is something non-standard about the Debian packages that is making this not work... Anyone else out there having this problem, with the Debian packages or otherwise? Any ideas as to what might be going on? Help me to TRY
by Peter Bengtsson 28 Mar '01

28 Mar '01

Dear all, I've got a Zope site that has an interface. People can via the interface delete real zope objects if they know the password. They don't have to "/manage", they just call DTML Method that has this in it. <dtml-call "manage_delObjects('objectid')"> If they previously haven't logged into the Zope realm, they have to do that naturally if they come across this DTML. Fine. But If I enclose this in a <dtml-try> tag like this: <dtml-try> <dtml-call "manage_delObjects('objectid')"> <dtml-except> bad day! </dtml-try> That catches all errors even the not-so-object-error: "the user isn't authenticated"! So, what happens is that if I enclose it with a <dtml-try> tag, Zope does not challange the user to log in. How can I get both ways? This is one solution: <dtml-if "'Manager' in AUTHENTICATED_USER.getRoles()"> <dtml-call "manage_delObjects('objectid')"> <dtml-else> <dtml-try> <dtml-call "manage_delObjects('objectid')"> <dtml-except> bad day! </dtml-try> </dtml-if> But that isn't very good looking and not exactly what I want. Appreciates it, Peter
