ZClasses give you inheritance. They go into the "Add List" and, therefore, are easier to instantiate. They hide irrelevant details. Dieter

RE: [Zope] feature suggestion (aliases)

The only problem I see are cyclical references, especially with Acquision. Could you imagine what would happen if Acquision was turned on with these things? It could be great fun and crashed servers ! :) Troy -----Original Message----- From: Andy McKay [mailto:andym@ActiveState.com] Sent: Thursday, March 22, 2001 11:57 AM To: tom smith; zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] feature suggestion (aliases) I saw one once that (I think) Shane Hathaway did. RE: [Zope] Test if document does exist
by Farrell, Troy 22 Mar '01

22 Mar '01

You can check if the parent (usually a folder object, unless we are in a DTML Document, not a DTML method) has the special document object attribute. (tested) <dtml-if expr="_.hasattr(PARENTS[0], 'special_document_name')"> We have special_document <dtml-else> No joy. </dtml-if> This doesn't render the document or check to see if any of it's contents will raise a KeyError. [Announce] Squishdot 1.0.0 Released
by Chris Withers 22 Mar '01

22 Mar '01

Squishdot 1.0.0 is now available from http://www.zope.org/Members/chrisw/Squishdot/ The following major changes were made: - HTML postings are parsed to remove harmful tags. Unclosed tags are closed. - Made Squishdot work with TinyTable or TinyTablePlus. Also made Tinytables work in 2.3.0. - Reimplemented email notifications. No HTML mail is now sent. HTML in postings is converted to text before being mailed out. - Fixed KeyError problem with Re-Catalog All Postings button. - Fixed a design problem with threading. - Added Updaters to handle fixing old Squish Site instances. There many other small changes and improvements. For details, see: http://squishdot.org/Documentation/Changes This will be the last release of Squishdot to include new features. >From now on, bugs will be fixed but development work will switch to Swishdot. If you run into problems, remember Squishdot has a mailing list at eGroups and a bug collector on SourceForge. cheers, Chris PS: Thanks to all those who've helped out over the last year or two. It's been fun even if time has been a little stretched. I'm looking forward to playing with the CMF while developing Swishdot and I hope you all enjoy the results :-)

Access Rule won't work !? Zope 2.3.1b2
by Anton A. Zotov 22 Mar '01

22 Mar '01

Help needed. Can't get how to handle virtual hosting :-( I do the next: 1) Create in the root folder of the Zope Python script (dtml methods won't work either) with the name 'dns_handler'.(It contains only return "I'm ruling !!!!!!!") 2) Set Access Rule with id 'dns_handler' 3) Make a request to root folder (e.g. 'http://localhost:8080/') and... finally I get my index_html dtml-page located also in the root folder. Deleting index_html doesn't help :-) (just preventing such Gotchas) Would anybody tell me what to do. I would also appreciate somebody explaining me what are all those SiteRoots & Virtual hosts monsters all about ??? How to apply them at all ? I'm facing great lack of documentation on the topic. help. Help ! HELP !!!!!!! Thanx in advance for my salvation. Anton.

Maybe you could point me to some info that explains > when and why writes occur to the ZODB. This behavior has never A write occurs any time __setattr__ is called on an object instance, or if an attribute is set on an object named _p_changed and it's set to 1 (e.g. self._p_changed = 1). You can't use __setattr__ directly from DTML, but if the DTML method calls an external method or a method of an object built-in to Zope, any of these things can write to the ZODB directly. In practice, this generally occurs when adding DTML documents (manage_addDTMLDocument(...)), DTML Methods (manage_addDTMLMethod(...)), Folders, custom object instances, etc. from DTML. > occurred on the localhost connection where I'm using Netscape > as the client browser, nor has it ever occurred on a remote > connection when the browser was other than IE 5.5. The behavior of any dtml-call, dtml-in, dtml-var, etc. can cause writes based on the method they're calling, iterating over, rendering, etc. If your ZODB is growing, something is getting added. > (2) I get the same behavior when I serve through Apache. > (not using ZServer behind Apache, just the generated form > served directly through Apache) Sorry, I don't know the answer to this one... it's evidently a bug in IE 5.5.

2 Zopes, MS-SQL
by Rich Young 22 Mar '01

22 Mar '01

Hi all- I need to get data from a MS SQL Server 7.0 database on NT 4 into web pages hosted on Redhat Linux 6.0/Apache/Zope. I understand that the way to do this is to put Zope on the NT box, and then use a Zope-to-Zope connection to get NT-based ZSQL Method data over to the Linux Zope's DTML Docs. I have working ZSQL methods in the Zope on the Windows box now. Everything works except that mystical Zope-to-Zope connection. Can anyone tell me how I can get the two zopes talking to each other? Thanks, --Rich Young rich at xplus dot com

Which LDAP product?
by Nicholas Lo 22 Mar '01

22 Mar '01

I've been looking for a Zope product that makes Zope LDAP enabled. However I really dont know which one to choose? Or, should I have to write my own LDAP adaptor? If anyone has experience on using Zope with LDAP, please kindly give me some suggestions. Thanks :) BTW, has anyone ever tried running Zope on AIX? Any experience to share? Thanks :) -- Nick
