Note, that from Zope 2.2 on, you should no longer use "superuser" but a normal manager. In Zope 2.3, "superuser" has been changed to "EmergencyUser" to make this more clear. Dieter

Core Session Tracking questions
by Jérôme Loisel 16 Mar '01

16 Mar '01

Hello again folks! I just downloaded and tried out Core Session Tracking. Let me just say that I am impressed. This is so much nicer than manually setting cookies... Or trying to, and failing. :-) First question: Say my cookies are set to last 14 days, but my session data manager only stores session data for 60 minutes... What happens? Say a visitor comes, sets some preferences, leaves and comes back two days later. A new session oject is created. Are the old cookies "imported" in the new object or is the data lost? Second question (not really as important for me): Is a Core Session Trackink-enabled site not more vulnerable to DOS attacks? Are there plans to eventually add sometghing to protect against OOM situations due to DOS attacks, like limiting the maximum amount of RAM used by core session tracking? PS: BTW, thanks again for Core Session Tracking. So far, it looks really cool: powerful and dead simple to use. The documentation in help/ seems needlessly compicated, though. -- Jérôme Loisel Lévinux: GNU/Linux dans les communautés à Lévis

Where to Begin
by glinds - Greg Lindstrom 16 Mar '01

16 Mar '01

Greetings- I would like to learn Zope, but am having trouble getting over the initial learning curve. I have heard that Zope offers a great way to create a web-based application and is python friendly. I have programmed for about 20 years now, was able to learn the mechanics of C++ (though I have yet to have anyone convince me it was worth the effort), have been using Python for a couple of years, and have run through the Zope tutorial. I feel I'm ready, but -- like the dazed freshman on the first day of classes -- don't know the 'next step'. Should I shell out the $$ for the new "Programming Python" book? Do I go out and look at Zope Websites and look at the source code? Any help and/or pointers would be appreciated. re: zope book
by Ryan Ware 16 Mar '01

I don't think anyone wants to risk putting out a book that will be outdated by the time it hits the shelves. I am referring to the new roadmap of Zope. I think the roadmap is good, but I believe most books will hold of until a Zope quits changing so rapidly. Ryan Ware

RE: [Zope] MSSQL7 ZSQL method works, can't use in DTML
by Rich Young 16 Mar '01

Dieter wins the prize: I was using Zope 2.2 binary for Windoze. Delete, install Zope 2.3.0, reinstall ZODBC, and it's all good. Thanks very much, Dieter -- I feel much more sane and much less stupid now. For the reference of those following along at home or reading this msg in the archives, it looks like it's a no-no to use Zope 2.2 with ZODBC -- I think the problem extended to more than just MS-SQL 7, because I got the same problem with MS-Access. --Rich Young rich at xplus dot com > -----Original Message----- > From: Dieter Maurer [mailto:dieter@handshake.de] > Sent: Thursday, March 15, 2001 1:02 PM > To: Rich Young > Cc: 'zope(a)zope.org' > Subject: Re: [Zope] MSSQL7 ZSQL method works, can't use in DTML > > > Rich Young writes: > ... This would definetly be considered a feature request by me, then. Where should I submit it? Hi! I know that Zope keeps metadata about object modification time... But is object creation time stored anywhere? Thanks. Jérôme -- Jérôme Loisel Lévinux: GNU/Linux dans les communautés à Lévis
