Local roles in Membership Product
by Loren Stafford 16 Mar '01

16 Mar '01

Bill, I installed the Zope Membership Component version 0.7.8 with Zope version 2.4 at the root of the Zope object hierarchy. In has been working fine so far. However, today, for the first time, I tried to add a local role for an object. But the User Roles selection box shows no users. What a surprise, given that there are serveral users in the root acl_users folder. Is this a problem/feature/wish, or did I do something wrong? -- Loren

RE: [Zope] Where to Begin

Start with the Zope Book http://www.zope.org/Members/michel/ZB It should be a good intro. It sounds like you've setup zope already, so skip a few chapters. Welcome. I have heard that Zope offers a great way to create a web-based application and is python friendly. I have programmed for about 20 years now, was able to learn the mechanics of C++ (though I have yet to have anyone convince me it was worth the effort), have been using Python for a couple of years, and have run through the Zope tutorial. I feel I'm ready, but -- like the dazed freshman on the first day of classes -- don't know the 'next step'. Should I shell out the $$ for the new "Programming Python" book? Do I go out and look at Zope Websites and look at the source code? Any help and/or pointers would be appreciated. by Boris Karnikowski 16 Mar '01

Hello listfolks, I hope my request is not too off topic ... I am an editor with Pearson Education Germany and I heard that the WROX people have just cancelled their ZOPE book. Hm ... Could somebody comment on this? Maybe the authors themselves? Form-Submit
by Axel.Missbach＠t-online.de 16 Mar '01

16 Mar '01

I want to call a form within a method. The address is submitted with the REQUEST. Using <dtml-var address> only shows the content of address. or <dtml-call address> shows only an emtpy screen I have tried it with or without quotation mark. Manuelly calling <dtml-var "main.sub.detail.formular">(which is the content of address) works fine. Changing the address in "main/sub/detail/formular", doesn't change the behavior. Please tell me how to handle this. Axel

Howto use has_permission (was RE: [Zope] How to test for a user h aving a permission?)
by Mayers, Philip J 16 Mar '01

Maybe I'm being dumb, but this doesn't work for me: This doesn't work at all: <dtml-if "AUTHENTICATED_USER.has_permission('View',subfolder)"> <dtml-if "AUTHENTICATED_USER.has_permission('Access contents information',subfolder)"> This always returns false: <dtml-if "AUTHENTICATED_USER.has_permission('View','subfolder')"> <dtml-if "AUTHENTICATED_USER.has_permission('Access contents information','subfolder')"> How do I use this? I will concede, though, that I could easily enough have done a grep through the Zope source for the likely candidates, "def hasPermission" or "def has_permission" <sheepish grin>. Quotation.
by Erik Enge 16 Mar '01

16 Mar '01

Hi. Could we please try to quota a bit «nicer»¹ around here? Not all of us have *DSL lines, and it generates *alot* of unecessary bytes after awhile, not to mention the extra time it takes to read a badly quoted reply. Thanks. ¹ <URL:http://home.online.no/~vidaandr/news/FAQquoting.html> This one is for Usenet, but most of it applies to mail as well.

newbie security question
by Hans de Wit 16 Mar '01

16 Mar '01

Hello, I have a security question,I read chapter 6 of the Zope book, and doing something wrong. I want to delegate the management of a sub-folder, so there is a folder(folder1) with a manager1 and a sub-folder (folder2) with a different manager2. Folder 1 and 2 are not public, so anonymous cann't view them. The folder2 should be able to be viewed by the manager2, but not by anonymous. Nothing very special, i thought. In the folder1 i turned the Acquire permission setting for the view permission off. The folder can only be viewed by manager1, not by not by anonymous, not by manager2 (manager 2 is not a user of folder 1) In the sub-folder, folder2, manager 2 is a user (with the management role) It doesn't work. Manager2 is missing the view tab, the rest of the management view is available. I can have him his view tab: by setting the Acquire permission setting in folder 1 on 'on'. It doesn't matter that this setting in folder 2 is off. But now anonymous can view everything. I am just not getting the point. I am using 2.3.0 with the 2001_03_08 hotfix. Re: [Zope] IOERROR Uploading a file

"errno=5" has nothing to do with permissions. It is a true IO error. I would expect it for disk read/write failures or communication failures (for network file systems). What is even more strange, the line above does not access the file at all. It just assigns the FileUpload object to the local variable file. Are you sure, that the exception comes from this line?
