MySQLdb moves to SourceForge
by Andy Dustman 12 Mar '01

I've put MySQLdb over at SourceForge, so now you can play with CVS versions. Since there is a memory leak in 0.3.3 that is fixed in CVS, this might be a good idea. ;) ZMySQLDA will be there soon as well. http://sourceforge.net/projects/mysql-python (not a good sign, my fingers keep wanting to type "sourceforget"...) -- Andy Dustman PGP: 0xC72F3F1D @ .net http://dustman.net/andy "Normally with carbonara you use eggs, but I used lobster brains instead." -- Masahiko Kobe (Iron Chef Italian): 30-year-old Giant Lobster Battle

Apache & Zope (using ProxyPass) on Debian
by Aaron Louie 12 Mar '01

12 Mar '01

A tip for those of you getting 500 Proxy Errors when serving Zope through Apache using ProxyPass... >From the How-To (http://www.zope.org/Members/anser/apache_zserver/) ProxyPass /Zope/ http://fightclub.org:8080/ ProxyPassReverse /Zope/ http://fightclub.org:8080/ This will not work on some server configurations (ie Debian). Instead of the above, try: ProxyPass /Zope/ http://localhost:8080/ ProxyPassReverse /Zope/ http://localhost:8080/ ajl

RE: [Zope] How to check if a string contains some characters??

Casey Duncan corrected: > There is no dtml-while tag. Sure enough, all the discussions about <dtml-while> that I recalled reading turned out to be explanations of why it doesn't exist. Thanks again to the NIP Ltd. folks for making this easy to verify, with their handy Zope Mail List search. Now if I can only find a way to force my self to do the searching FIRST! Oh well, 11.75 months to live this down before the next Python conference. > You cannot iterate a string with dtml-in 8^( This is also true. When the need arises to loop over a string, a Python coder would convert the string to a list or tuple. So, you could do this : <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('string_name', 'ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789.-_')"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('char_list', [])"> <dtml-in "_.range(_.len(string_name))"> <dtml-let s_i=sequence-index char_single="string_name[s_i]"> <dtml-call "char_list.append(char_single)"> </dtml-let> </dtml-in> to stuff characters into a list, either statically, as above, or dynamically, for an arbitrary string. This just goes to show why the first instinct ("just kick out some <dtml>") is often not the best solution. {snip an excellent example of a simple implementation in <dtml>} > The performance of this would be much less than using an external python > method and regular expressions however. I'm sure RegEx is fast, but I was shooting for simple, and clear. Next time I'll shoot for existent, and possible too . . . Thanks for clearing it up, Jerry S.

Of course, what happens is that zope pops up and asks for authorization for this. I've tried <dtml-in extra-stuff skip_unauthorized> <dtml-var sequence-item> </dtml-in> but I still get an authorization request for extra-stuff. Is there any way (w/dtml-var, dtml-in, etc) to show this extra stuff, while keeping the security logic in simple zope security, and w/o prompting for the user to log in? File as EMail List
by David Kyte 12 Mar '01

Hi, Anyone used a file as an email list? I would like to create a folder with lists in. I have got the <dtml-sendmail ...> bit working but would now like to place this in a <dtml-in> block. I therefore need to convert a file into a list of recipients? Any ideas? Thanks David Kyte
