Multiple selection property as list
by Alexander James Tucker 13 Mar '01

13 Mar '01

Hi, I have a ZClass based product with a property sheet which has a multiple selection property called "groups", listing the group or groups a person belongs to. I'd like to be able to access this property as a list, so that I can create expressions like the following: <dtml-if expr="'Some group' in groups"> ... </dtml-if> However, in this expression, groups is treated as a string, so I get an error saying that the left hand side of the 'in' expression must be a character, not a string. I can work around the problem by iterating over groups with dtml-in and creating a new list, something like this: <dtml-let grouplist="[]"> <dtml-in groups> <dtml-call "grouplist.append(_['sequence-item'])"> </dtml-in> <dtml-if "'Some group' in grouplist"> ... </dtml-if> </dtml-let> Can anyone see a better way of doing this? If dtml-in can see the property as a list, why can't the 'in' operator? Cheers, Alex.

How to check if a string contains some characters??
by Spicklemire, Jerry 13 Mar '01

13 Mar '01

Marcello asked: > Is there a simple way to check if a string contain only this values: > "ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789.-_" > and otherwise raise an error? If you have a string you want to check, with the name "string_name": <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('char_invalid', 'no')"> <dtml-let chars_valid="'ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789 .-_'"> <dtml-while "char_valid == 'no'"> <dtml-in string_name> <dtml-if "sequence-item !in chars_valid"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('char_invalid', 'yes')"> </dtml-if> </dtml-in> </dtml-while> </dtml-let> <dtml-if "char_invalid == 'no'"> <dtml-call "your raise_error_code"> </dtml-if> This may not look as simple as you want, but in pure Python, (without alls the <dtml-stuff > this would be: string_valid = 'yes' for char in string_name : if char !in 'ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789.-_' : string_valid = 'no' break if string_valid == 'no' : (run your "raise error" code here) Later, Jerry S.

zope.org + proxy - a Q
by bak 13 Mar '01

13 Mar '01

hi all """With dev.zope.org we have to be a little more sneaky. Because apache doesn't hand the host info off to the proxy server, we have to stick it in the path: <VirtualHost 10.0.11.3:80> ServerName dev.zope.org RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^/(.*) http://10.0.11.3:1380/dev.zope.org/$1 [L,P] CustomLog logs/dev-access_log combined ErrorLog logs/dev-error_log </VirtualHost> """ quoted from zope.org/About/Apache could anybody elaborate on this statement please. i see dev.zope.org url is put in the rewrite url. does this mean we don't need SiteAccess/VHM on zope? thanks

ANNOUNCE. Zope Beans v 0.1
by Paul T 13 Mar '01

13 Mar '01

Experimental version: http://www.pault.com/zope_beans.html Genbean.py v 0.1 Tested with Zope 2.3.0 The big picture is described in the paper "Zope: How To Win Big". http://www.pault.com/zope.html What is Zope Bean? Zope Bean is a simplified plug & play product for Zope. Zope Bean encapsulates a set of properties and methods. Zope Bean has one creation screen, one configuration screen and one information screen. Zope Bean is not Zope Component. Zope Component is experimental new feature in Zope. I have not seen it implemented yet. However, from the paper: "Components need not be persistent, nor provide a management interface." Zope Beans are persistent and they provide a management interface. Zope Bean is not exactly Zope Product. Zope Products are hard to create and hard to maintain. If you're Python/Zope pro who is used to write complex Zope Products, the chances are that you may have no need in Zope Beans - you're already a magician. However, Zope Beans enforce loose coupling design (something to think about). The biggest difference between Zope Bean and Zope Product is that Zope Bean is extremely easy to create and to maintain even you have no experience with Zope Products at all. If you know a bit of Python - you can write and use Zope Beans. Next version of Zope Beans may provide more functionality (like complex types of properties, one-bean-cooperating-with-other-bean, Global Bean Distribution Network, e t.c.) The purpose of this version is to show that writing plug & play Zope Products could be significantly easier than it is now. Comments welcome. Rgds.Paul.

language tracking (again)
by Pattreeya Tanisaro 12 Mar '01

Hello all, I wonder what should I do if I want to display the menu with the defaut is deusch and when the user clicks 'english' the menu_left and menu_header swich to english. I have tried with this but it did not work : ~( The code is below. my standard_html_header : <html> <dtml-if expr="lang=='en'"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('LANG', 'en')"> <dtml-else> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('LANG', 'de')"> </dtml-if> <head> .... </head> <body> <dtml-if expr="lang=='en'"> menu is english. <dtml-else> menu is deutsch </dtml-if> #call menu_left <dtml-var menu_left> Inside menu_left, i wrote : <dtml-if expr="lang=='en'"> <a href="<dtml-var homeUrl>index_html?lang=de">Deutsch</a> English English English... <dtml-else> <a href="<dtml-var homeUrl>index_e_html?lang=en">English</a> Deutsch deutsch... </dtml-if> my problem was i cannot switch to english ...but if i used en/de as boolean flag, it was fine. (But i guessed that did not make sense...?) I don't understand when I should put '-'(single quote) or ignore it. I saw from some examples that they used '-' to string within 'expr='. And i wonder if I should put <dtml-call REQUEST.set ('LANG', 'en') or <dtml-call RESPONSE.setCookie(LANG, en) > to keep tracking language. Some of us suggest using session but mm..it seems too difficult for a beginner, I think.? Thank you in advance for any suggestion. Pattreeya.
