PostgreSQL on Win2K
by Adrian Madrid 13 Mar '01

Anybody out there using PostgreSQL on Win2k? I'd like to hear pointers on installation, performance and zope db adaptor used. I'm tied on using Win2K but I'd love to use an open source db. ===== --------------------------- Adrian Esteban Madrid Benson Institute, Webmaster Brigham Young University --------------------------- adrian_esteban(a)madrid.com =========================== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Default values in ZSQL methods
by Joel Burton 13 Mar '01

13 Mar '01

I have a ZSQL method, by_id, which accepts a 'staffid' as staffid:int=0 (allow an integer-only id, but default to zero.) The method is: select * from vlkpstaff <dtml-if "staffid > 0"> where staffid=<dtml-sqlvar staffid type=int> </dtml-if> (if a real staff ID was passed, use it in the where statement, otherwise show all records) The works great, even with direct traversal, so I can say things like http://www.foo.com/staffFolder/by_id/100 to get staff ID#100. However, in a DTML method, 'roster', I say: <dtml-in by_id> ... show staff info here ... </dtml-in> hoping to show *all* staff. Instead, I get *none*. If I call it explicity, as <dtml-in "by_id('staffid':0)"> ... </dtml-in> it works fine, but this is a bit ugly, and it creates dependencies on my keeping this staffid field w/the same name, etc. Of course, I could have two queries, by_id, and showAll, and this work fine, but again, it forces me to keep two queries in sync when keeping just one in sync feels right. Re: [Zope] ZSQL method LAST_INSERT_ID() error
by Andrew Williams 13 Mar '01

I know I'm coming into this thread a little late, but... I've run across the same problem you described. I figured out that adding a semicolon at the end of my SQL statements was causing the syntax error. IE: SELECT * from t_table WHERE keyfield=<dtml-sqlvar keyfield type=string>; gave me the syntax error. When I removed the semicolon everything worked fine. Of course, you can also set the limit clause to zero, but you might now want to have to to do that. ZSQL method LAST_INSERT_ID() error
by paul_s_johnson＠urscorp.com 13 Mar '01

13 Mar '01

This ZSQL query: SELECT LAST_INSERT_ID() AS ID Is returning this error: Error, _mysql.OperationalError: (1064, "You have an error in your SQL syntax near 'LIMIT 1000' at line 1") It apparently automatically adds a LIMIT clause to the end of my SQL query that MySQL does not like in this context. Is there any way to shut the limit clause off? Anybody have any ideas for a workaround? P. Johnson

Simple problem with sql-group
by Zanotti Michele 13 Mar '01

13 Mar '01

Hello, I 'm a Zope newbye. I have a (probably silly) problem with this sql-template (if you have already discussed this problem excuse me): select * from employees <dtml-sqlgroup where> <dtml-sqltest salary op=gt type=float optional> <dtml-and> <dtml-sqltest first op=eq type=string optional> <dtml-and> <dtml-sqltest last op=eq type=string optional> </dtml-sqlgroup> My question is: if I pass the value 10000 to parameter salary (and nothing to others) I expect to obtain the query: select * from employees where (salary > 10000)? But I obtain the query select * from employees where (salary > 10000 and first = '' and last = '' ). Is this result correct and am I wrong? Can you help me? Thanks. Michele

Records marshalling: trying to including a list within a record
by Rich and Lea98 13 Mar '01

13 Mar '01

Hi, Can anyone give me ideas on solving the following problem... Im trying to pass information in a form using :records. One item in each record is a list I wish to pass as a list and use <dtml-in bob> to display the list contents. I have tried all sorts of variations... <input type="hidden" name="my_record.bob:records:list" value="<dtml-in bob><dtml-var sequence-item></dtml-in>"> and... <input type="hidden" name="my_record.bob:list:records" value="<dtml-in bob><dtml-var sequence-item></dtml-in>"> Anything I try just places the whole of "bob" as one item in a list. eg if bob was ['this ','is ','bob']. The list in the record passed using the form would be ['this is bob']. Thanks for any ideas in advance. Richard

manage_addclassname and internal ZClasses
by John R. Daily 13 Mar '01

13 Mar '01

I'm writing an internal ZClass, and I'm having problems with the manage_addclassname function. I modelled it on the classname_add DTML method created by default, and I can't claim that I fully understand what I'm writing, unfortunately. Most of the ZClass documentation, especially with regards to the manage_add* methods, pertains to external Python code. Here's a slimmed-down version of my manage_addFooClass(): --- foo = container.FooClass.createInObjectManager(id, context.REQUEST) foo.manage_changeProperties( { 'title' : 'some title' } ) return foo --- This is invoked by a test script like: --- foo = container.manage_addProduct['Foo'].manage_addFooClass(id) return foo.getId() --- The rub: the new title 'some title' is applied to the container of the new object, not the object itself. According to the documentation I can find on createInObjectManager(), the new object is supposed to be returned, and the other functionality I formerly had in this method seems to back that up. What's going on? Also, does anyone know of any internal ZClasses I can install that are as full-featured as external ones? Also, for subclasses, is it sufficient to define the manage_add* methods alongside the factories for those subclasses? It seems to work, but I've not gotten very far with my testing. DTML method --> PythonScript
by Timothy Wilson 13 Mar '01

13 Mar '01

Hi everyone, I recently asked what the following DTML Method would look like as a PythonScript. Unfortunately, the answer given doesn't work. I've including the traceback below, and would appreciate any further ideas anyone has. Original SchoolMenuClass_add DTML Method: <HTML> <HEAD><TITLE>Add SchoolMenuClass</TITLE></HEAD> <BODY BGCOLOR="#FFFFFF" LINK="#000099" VLINK="#555555"> <dtml-with "SchoolMenuClass.createInObjectManager(REQUEST['id'], REQUEST)"> <dtml-call "propertysheets.Basic.manage_editProperties(REQUEST)"> <dtml-call reindex_object> </dtml-with> <dtml-if DestinationURL> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect(DestinationURL+'/manage_workspace')"> <dtml-else> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect(URL2+'/manage_workspace')"> </dtml-if> </body></html> The PythonScript that was suggested (with REQUEST and RESPONSE passed in the parameter list): REQUEST = context.REQUEST RESPONSE = REQUEST.RESPONSE schoolmenu = SchoolMenuClass.createInObjectManager(REQUEST['id'], REQUEST) schoolmenu.propertysheets.Basic.manage_editProperties(REQUEST) schoolmenu.reindex_object() if REQUEST.has_key(DestinationURL): return RESPONSE.redirect(DestinationURL+'/manage_workspace') return RESPONSE.redirect(URL2+'/manage_workspace') The resulting traceback: -Tim -- Tim Wilson | Visit Sibley online: | Check out: Henry Sibley HS | http://www.isd197.k12.mn.us/ | http://www.zope.org/ W. RE: [Zope] pythonScript huh?

Tom, You can find the api docs under the helpsys system. -Zope Help -API Reference .. .. PythonScript Also, a few notes from experience: 'self' has become 'context' If you define a function, it is only useful inside that PythonScript. You can only import a few modules, per the help page. RE: [Zope] .html extensions
by Farrell, Troy 13 Mar '01

13 Mar '01

When I have a need for an extension (ie serving files for download), I tend to do this for a log file: /path/to/logfile?ext=.log IE4 and IE5 will try to guess mime types and if they fail, they look at the extension. The reason for the above notation is to make the object usable in Python, but to help IE figure out what I mean. Troy. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone on the list who helps me with Zope and my many difficulties. Not many mailing lists are this helpful. -----Original Message----- From: Tino Wildenhain [mailto:tino@wildenhain.de] Sent: Tuesday, March 13, 2001 8:10 AM To: Philippe J Cc: zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] .html extensions Hi Philippe, the only reason for .html endings would be for editors to guess the filetype from it. To link to /index.html is kind of silly even for "regular" web-servers (like apache).
