The HTML specification states unmistakenly, that a submit button is only successful if it submitted the form. Dieter

unsettable variable?
by Joh Johannsen 08 Mar '01

08 Mar '01

I've got a case like this: <dtml-in get_action_text> <dtml-if expr="action_text=='WIPE_OUT_THIS_VALUE'"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('action_text','atest')"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('zction_text','ztest')"> action_text is <dtml-var action_text>, zction_text is <dtml-var zction_text> </dtml-if> Here is what shows up for the values when the above is run: action_text is WIPE_OUT_THIS_VALUE, zction_text is ztest Why can I not set the 'action_text'? It really seems like there must be something really obviously stupid in what I am doing, but I just can't see it. Are there cases where a REQUEST.set will have no effect on a dtml-var? Regards, JJ

making existing zclass catalogAware
by David McCuskey 08 Mar '01

08 Mar '01

i have an existing zclass with several property sheets which i would like to make CatalogAware so that the class instances automatically re-index themselves when changed. i haven't been able to find any documentation on adding CatalogAwareness after the fact. so, i'm wondering... 1. can it be done ( easily )? 2. is it better/easier to just re-create my zclass? if i need to re-create my zclass, what important pieces of information do i need to save so that the objects which already exist get picked up again when i create the new one? ( eg, the meta type? the zope class id? ) thanks for any help, david -- David McCuskey dmccuskey(a)bigfoot.com

Persistence in Python Scripts
by Cyril Elkaim 08 Mar '01

08 Mar '01

Hello, The following code seems to trigger the Persistance machinery. Is it true? ----------------------------- ## bounds: context, container, script, _, traverse_subpath ## parameters: background, image result = None if background == "": return "left:0px; top:0px" for name, object in container.getParentNode().objectItems(): if name == background: back_width = int(object.getProperty("width")) back_height = int(object.getProperty("height")) if name == image: front_width = int(object.getProperty("width")) front_height = int(object.getProperty("height")) left = (back_width - front_width) / 2 top = (back_height - front_height) /2 result = "left:" + str(left) + "px; top:" + str(top) + "px" return result ------------------------------ The reason I ask this question is that sometimes I get Conflict Error when this script is executed. It's the case when it's called many times in the same document. Cyril Elkaim

NT+IIS+MS SQL Server+Zope
by Donald Braman 08 Mar '01

08 Mar '01

I'm developing a site on RH70/Apache/Postgres/Zope. However, I need to get a (mostly NT) sysadmin to buy into Zope, and that may mean using Zope with NT/IIS/MS SQL Server. I have two questions in this regard: 1. I'm wondering if anyone out there has had experience with the latter combination and if they have any advice about it. I've read this: http://www.zope.org/Members/roberth/ZMSSQLServer but am wondering what people suggest reagarding ZODBCDA, ZmxODBC, and any other issues like those described in earlier posts this month. One of the selling points of Zope to this guy is that it is Free, so the licensing of ZmxODBC may be an issue (they don't have pricing up on the site yet). Are there other viable alternatives to ZODBCDA? 2. I'm wondering if anyone has had experience migrating Zope/postgres/linux to Zope/MSSQLServer/NT and what advice they might have on this or about migration in general. (I'd develop the site in NT, but NT won't on on my "wimpy" development hardware.) Don

Order by property
by Andrew Fielden 08 Mar '01

08 Mar '01

All I am looking at the best way to order a set of dtml documents to display on a page using a custom sort method. I have it in mind to do something very similar to the Elvis sightings in the quick start tutorial. My current suggestion that is currently incomplete is The documents are in their own folder, similar to the Elvis sightings. - OK no problems there That the documents have a property called orderNo - OK again and once I get the display sorted I will try to create my own zclass to hold the property (unless there is a simple better way) There is a DTML method (or should it be a python script) that sorts the documents and then displays them, I am thinking of a dtml-in type thing here. I have looked through much of the documentation and all of the howtos but cannot work out how to do the sorting and iteration. Ideally I would like to use acquisition to achieve this so that I can have sets of folders that I can sort in the same way without having to worry about the method being present. Can anyone help. Can only managers manage users???
by Lars Heber 08 Mar '01

08 Mar '01

A few days ago, a similar question to mine was asked: http://zope.nipltd.com/public/lists/zope-archive.nsf/ByKey/A5E30D4A4F40707A My problem is: I have a subfolder, want to create a user defined role, with which I can manage (i. e. add, edit, delete) users. When I give a user that UDR, he cannot get on the content screen of acl_users but is immediately redirected to the Security tab. Even typing in the direct URL doesn't work. But when I give that user the manage role which has EXACTLY the same permissions (my UDR has every possible permission for testing), then it works. What's going on here? I read a few threads about that topic, but either the authors didn't get an answer at all or the answers were confusing, because they matched only the special case of the author. All I want to know is if a user necessarily has to have the manager role to manage users. I have looked in the Source of the manageform with the Rename Cut, Copy ... buttons.
