Structed Text weirdness
by Joel Burton 07 Mar '01

07 Mar '01

I've been teaching users to use Structured Text for their messages, but I've come across a few small annoyances: . Some items (like links) don't render if there isn't some text after them. If the very last part of an STX document is a link, it gets rendered as plain text. Added \n after will fix this. . Items that have 2 linefeeds after them are rendered as a heading, even if they are not intended to be. eg """ this is text """ comes out as a heading . you can't nest things in sensible ways: "**Visit my "site":http://www.site.org.** is in bold, but loses the link, whereas "**Visit my "site":http://www.site.org. ** isn't in bold (asterisks appear) I know STX is supposed to be a simple format, and I'm not advocated for complicating/changing the rules--but I find the behavior inconsistent w/expectations about how things should happen. Are there patches that fix these issues (I haven't seen any)? Are there workarounds? Is there a document ("advanced Structured Text") that I could point users to that would suggest workarounds for these problems. -- Joel Burton <jburton(a)scw.org> Director of Information Systems, Support Center of Washington

Re: [Zope] Add a Document from an existing File

Steffen Bergmann writes: > Does anybody know how to add an DTML Document with uploading the > contents from a local File on the filesystem. I need to do this in > DTML Code (or Python?) and not in the managementscreen. What do you mean with "local"? Browser local or server local? If you mean "browser local", then you want the same functionality as provided by the Zope Management Interface. I always recommend in such a case to look at the Management Interface's source code (--> list archive, where to find the source code). If you mean "server local", then you need to read the file content and use it as third parameter to "manage_addDTMLDocument". For security reasons, Zope does not support reading of local files directly. Again, the list archives will show you various ways how to achieve this. Dieter

Re: [Zope] <dtml-in item> iteration on INSERT method

In principle, the construct should work the same for "INSERT" as well as for "UPDATE". Due to some HTML-weirdness, checkboxes are quite difficult to handle. They are only "successful" (and included in the form data set) when checked. Unchecked, they are "unsuccessful" and the request simply does not contain any trace of them. This may cause "Bad request" errors from ZSQL methods. There are several ways, how to work around this HTML bug (feature?): all have to do with providing default values. Maybe, the easiest (for a single checkbox) is to provide a default value for the corresponding Z SQL argument. Re: [Zope] LoginManager & Cookie Login

Gerald Gutierrez writes: > I noticed that the LoginManager supports Basic Auth Login, Basic Cookie > Login and REMOTE_USER login by default. Does that mean that if I don't use > cookies, and I want a form-based login, LoginManager will not work for me? You will not have a form-based login whenever you use "Basic Authentication", neither in Zope nor with PHP. The reason is that HTTP's basic authentication is a client feature. The client pops up a dialog to obtain login information that it later includes in HTTP requests. The server can not control this dialog. The "dtml-raise type=Redirect" wants to have an absolute URL as "error value". Thus, <dtml-raise type=Redirect>http://localhost:8080/index_html</dtml-raise> works while <dtml-raise type=Redirect>index_html</dtml-raise> does not. > According to the Zope Book, the same can be achieved via <dtml-call > expr="RESPONSE.redirect(target)"> That works fine for me in all cases. RE: [Zope-dev] RE: ZODBC problem
by Bryan Baszczewski 07 Mar '01

Alan, I am having a similar lock-out problem while performing a complex query on SQL Server 2K. All other hits cannot connect until the query returns the results. My research has so far taken me here: http://www.zope.org/Members/petrilli/DARoadmap Which is telling me I am probably using at most a Level-2 DA with my ZODBC. And then here: http://www.zope.org/Members/djay/ZmxODBC/ZmxODBC_0_0_2.tgz/README Which is a Level-3 mxZODBC DA (multithreaded). If anyone sees a problem with what I am about to do, let me know. What do you think? -----Original Message----- From: zope-dev-admin(a)zope.org [mailto:zope-dev-admin@zope.org]On Behalf Of Capesius, Alan Sent: Wednesday, March 07, 2001 12:31 PM To: zope(a)zope.org Cc: zope-dev(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope-dev] RE: ZODBC problem Thanks Dieter, I was kinda looking for a solution, I reviewed the mailing lists but do not see any solutions. I've done some more testing here: Summary: The user selects an involved financial report. The report takes about 55 seconds for Zope to prepare. The first second is the SQL server request and reply. The remaining time is Zope processing (dual 200mhz NT box). My queries are SELECT JOINS. No tables are modified at the server. The problem I see here is that Zope/ZODBCDA is holding the connection to SQL open via ODBC until all processing is complete and then issuing an SQL statement: IF @@TRANCOUNT>0 COMMIT TRAN Zope could free up this connection after one second. (at least in this case) Until Zope does the commit, other users are locked out. For read only queries, there is no need to have the request under transaction control. In any case, Zope should be able to early release the SQL connection and then process on the results. Certainly increasing processor speed will mask this problem and provide better response to users, but I'm hoping for a real fix. Zope training in NW-Europe?
by cg＠cdegroot.com 07 Mar '01

07 Mar '01

We want to train a couple of our web-developers on Zope, so that they can structure websites the "Zope-way", help in setting up content management structures for customers, etcetera. As we're a bit short on training resources ourselves, does someone give Zope training in or near The Netherlands? If not near .NL, would someone be willing to share (against a fee, of course) training materials? Adding Property to newly added Image w/o Image ID
by Ryan Winfield Woodings 07 Mar '01

07 Mar '01

HI All, I am new to Zope (just installed it a week ago) and am absolutely loving it!! I have found the mailing list archive very valuable, but I have a question that I haven't been able to find an answer to yet. I have a form that is used to upload a picture, picture title, and picture description. My DTML method that gets called from this form uses the picture file and picture title to add an image (into a subfolder) like this: <dtml-call expr="_[prop_id].manage_addImage(id='', file=file, title=image_title)"> Then I want to add the description as a property (named image_desc) to the image... but I don't know the id of the image that I just added, so I don't know how call: manage_addProperty('image_desc', image_desc, 'text') How do I access the newly added image in this case? Thanks!! Ryan Woodings __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get email at your own domain with Yahoo! Mail. http://personal.mail.yahoo.com/
