SiteAccess problem
by Spinwing 23 Feb '01

23 Feb '01

Hello all after careful reading of all the how-to on how to hide Zope behind Apache, I was trying to apply it. I am running Zope 2.3.1b So I have set up properly Apache 1.3.17, and placed a folder to start testing. I add the SiteAccess, I place the parameters... pluff, Zope throws an exception and tells me that it can't find the document. I will recap: say w.x.y.200 mapped to "vzope". So I add a SiteRoot object and set the base to http://vzope. After this, from manage I can't access the folder anymore. Where am I making the mistake? Thanks Stefano

Rewrite Rule
by Norman Khine 23 Feb '01

23 Feb '01

Hello, I know this topic has been covered time and time again, and I think I understand most of it, BUT ;^o I am having problems / something "funny" seems to be happening! Following the tutorial in building a Job Board http://www.zope.org/Members/mukhsein/job_board_howto , all works well but this is where the "somethin funny" seems to happen. I have a rewrite rule in my apache conf file RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP:Authorization} ^(.*) RewriteRule ^/Zope(.*) /usr/local/Zope/Zope.cgi$1 [e=HTTP_CGI_AUTHORIZATION:%1,t=application/x-httpd-cgi,l] so that when I type http://www.foo.com/Zope/Job_Board/ I get to the index_html for this tutorial. If I view the job board the entries are shown I can add jobs, BUT when I do a search, although the entries are displayed in a table as it is supposed to, the URL link for the "Position", which takes us back to the entry re-writes itself to http://www.foo.com/Job_Board/entries/982927522 missing /Zope therefore giving me an error 404 Not Found So, looking at the Entry Search Result DTML Method <TD> <A href="<dtml-var "Catalog.getpath(data_record_id_)">"> <dtml-var position_name></A> </TD> Catalog.getpath does not seem to work with rewrite rule !?!?! Is this correct, or am I missing something. If I access the above using http://www.foo.com:8080/Job_Board/ and do a search the Catalog.getpath works. Thanks for your help Norman

That sounds great! Any predictions of the date and time, for those who have restricted schedules? Thanks, Jerry S.

I too think, that Rewrite is a better solution, but there should be the Rewrite Module compiled in or loaded as a DSO by Apache. -goe- http://www.goeldi.com/e/ _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.

The Zope Book
by Donald Braman 23 Feb '01

23 Feb '01

I just have to write in about the Zope book. I had a look at it in it's earlier stages (when I first evaluated and decided not to try Zope), and had trouble with it. I'm not sure why I had this bad first impression (about a year ago? maybe more?) but maybe I was just in a bad mood. I just had another look at it, and it's like manna from heaven for me as a new user. I hope nice things happen to the authors. My only complaint is that there is no order form for a hard copy! My little printer is running it off right now, but I'd like to have the actual book when it comes out. If you can't take orders yet, you could take email addresses and notify people the day it does become available. How about it? Don

I'm sure it's very easy, but I've no idea. Very easy. Download both scripts. Verify you have wget installed. Modify "backup" script - set login, password and URL of your object *without* "http://" prefix - the prefix will be added by manage_exportObject.sh script. Run. That's all, really! [PROBLEM] ftping large files to ZOPE
by alan runyan 23 Feb '01

23 Feb '01

Zope 2.3.0 (binary release, python 1.5.2, linux2-x86) 1.5.2 (#10, Dec 6 1999, 12:16:27) [GCC 2.7.2.3] I've uploaded pretty large files into ZOPE and always had fairly decent success. but I just tried upload a 150MB file and this is the console logs: 2001-02-22T23:26:44 INFO(0) ZServer Successful login. ------ 2001-02-22T23:26:48 PROBLEM(100) ZServer unhandled connect event ------ 2001-02-22T23:26:50 PROBLEM(100) ZServer unhandled connect event ------ 2001-02-23T00:45:00 ERROR(200) ZServer uncaptured python exception, closing chan nel <zope_ftp_channel connected 208.123.214.200:25172 at 87b8bd8> (socket.error: (9, 'Bad file descriptor') [/home/zope/Zope-2.3.0-linux2-x86/ZServer/medusa/asyn chat.py|initiate_send|211] [/home/zope/Zope-2.3.0-linux2-x86/ZServer/medusa/asyn core.py|send|282]) ZOPE appears to keep all incoming xfer byte in memory and when the xfer completes it writes it out to disk. The first attempt to upload this file, I was playing around and tried to upload a smaller file to zope in a another directory, and the original large file connection broke. So I decided to just leave it alone until the file xfer completed. so I get home file is still xfering and watch the memory creep up until ~the file size. it got to be about 175MB and then something really odd happened.. the CPU went from ~1% idle to 60% idle and the memory starting balooning (scaring me because I only had ~400MB of total memory on the box) it got to like 380MB and the CPU went back to idle, I never ran out of virtual memory. when I logged into ZOPE, my file didnt save. :( I've uploaded large files (i believe larger than 100MB) before but it was on a local network and didnt have a problem. but 'in the wild' it didnt work as I thought. anyone have any insight? is this just not a good idea -- uploading files >XXX bytes? is this commonly known?

Xron and sendmail tag
by Robert Ln 23 Feb '01

23 Feb '01

Hi, I'm working with Xron 0.0.9 and zope 2.2.2 on a linux machine. I'm trying to do something pretty simple, have the xronmethod send a short email: (this is the body of the zronmethod) <dtml-sendmail mailhost="MailHost"> To: soundhack@<target address> From: mailman@<my linux box> Subject: Test Test </dtml-sendmail> ---- This is what I get: Traceback (innermost last): File "/usr/local/zope/lib/python/Products/Xron/XronDTMLMethod.py", line 132, in trigger REQUEST=REQUEST, RESPONSE=RESPONSE, kw=kw) File "/usr/local/zope-2.2.2/lib/python/OFS/DTMLMethod.py", line 172, in __call__ r=apply(HTML.__call__, (self, client, REQUEST), kw) File "/usr/local/zope- 2.2.2/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_String.py", line 528, in __call__ try: return render_blocks(self._v_blocks, md) File "/usr/local/zope- 2.2.2/lib/python/Products/MailHost/SendMailTag.py", line 182, in render mhost=md[self.mailhost] AttributeError: __call__ ---- I dont think this is a permissions error, as I tried to set the 'use mailhost services' wherever I found them. On the other hand, I have not come across the 'AddXronDTMLMethods' permission. Where is this located? Thanks for any help! RE: [Zope] ZODB parent
by Randall F. Kern 23 Feb '01

23 Feb '01

Thanks, but that doesn't actually work. aq_inner.aq_parent has the same value as aq_parent. The scenario is complicated. Here's a diagram of the db: root a b c b.__of__ inserts c into the chain above b, yet c has a method that needs to find it's siblings when run in this strange context. -Randy > -----Original Message----- > From: Chris McDonough [mailto:chrism@digicool.com] > Sent: Thursday, February 22, 2001 9:36 PM > To: Randall F.
