Are you sure, you need this? It is somewhat against the philosophy of the tree tag. > ... > Reading <dtml-tree>'s docs I've found a list that carries what I > want, "tree-state", but I have no idea on how to access list's members > on DTML. I've tried <dtml-var tree-state[0]> with no success. "tree-state" is a sequence. Thus, in principle, you can access it with the subscription syntax. However, subscription will only work inside Python expressions. As you use it, the "[0]" will be interpreted as part of the single name "tree-state[0]". Try <dtml-var expr="_['tree-state'][0]"> Be warned however, the structure is quite complex. Personally, I was not yet able to understand it. Dieter

What's involved in writing a DA (for Ingres)?
by Hamish Lawson 22 Feb '01

22 Feb '01

I'd like to have a Zope DA for Ingres II (on Solaris), and since I haven't come across an existing one, I'm thinking of attempting to write my own (!), building it on top of a DB-API-compliant Python module for Ingres that I've got hold of. I've grabbed the "How to Write a DA" document; is there anything else that would be useful? Are there any particular existing DAs that it would be worthwhile to look at for guidance? No, it is not just you. I have had pretty good luck with .6 albeit a little slow opening/closing. Mozilla .7 runs *much* faster, but I've also been having problems with the "back" button, and not just in the Zope management screens. One other thing I've noticed is that when copy/paste does work, it doesn't keep any of the formatting (I love indented code). Really really aggravating. So... at home I use IE 5.0 on my home pc and at work I use Mozilla .8 on my laptop. RE: [Zope] quick question - database connections in python methods & return types?
by Randall F. Kern 22 Feb '01

The query result is a tuple, with two items. The first item in the tuple is a list of dictionaries, which describe each column. These dictionaries have values for 'name', 'type', 'null', and 'width'. These values came from MySQL, as meta-information about the query results. The second item in the outermost tuple contains the actual data. This is a list of rows, each row is a tuple that has a value for each column, in the same order as the column description dictionaries. So yes, the result is a combination of tuple, list, and dictionary. If these types are confusing, I would suggest reading some of the material on www.python.org. Sample query result: id | title ----|--------- 1 | john 2 | greg Written in python as a "result object": result = ( [ {'name': 'id', 'type': 'NUMBER', 'null': 'NOT NULL', 'width': 4}, {'name': 'title', 'type': 'STRING', 'null': 'NOT NULL', 'width': -1} ], [ (1, 'john'), (2, 'greg') ] ) -Randy > -----Original Message----- > From: Lee [mailto:lee.reilly@ntlworld.com] > Sent: Wednesday, February 21, 2001 4:26 PM > To: zope(a)zope.org > Subject: [Zope] quick question - database connections in > python methods > & return types? > > > Hi there, > > I have a quick question that I need answered concerning the > return types > of SQL queries executed in Python methods. > > I am querying/updating a database using Python methods as follows: > > -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ > # make a database connection string > try: > db_conn = self.MySQL_database_connection() > except Exception: > return "A connection to the database could not be made. <a > href='./'> > Recover</a>." > > try: > SQL = "some SELECT query" > result=db_conn.query(SQL) > except Exception: > return "The class could not be created.<a href='./'> Recover</a>." > -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ > > When this is executed and I "return result[1]" it outputs the > data in a > format like: > > [(1, 16, 9, 1)] > > * return result[0] gives me: > [{'name': 'PRACTICALS', 'type': 's', 'null': None, 'width': None}, > {'name': 'TUTORIALS', 'type': 's', 'null': None, 'width': None}, > {'name': 'ASSIGNMENTS', 'type': 's', 'null': None, 'width': None}, > {'name': 'BONUS', 'type': 's', 'null': None, 'width': None}] > > - the exact details aren't neccessary here I think. LocalFS and creating files
by Paul Zwarts 22 Feb '01

22 Feb '01

Hi all, Am I to understand that LocalFS is only for reading files? The README is practically nonexistant and the Zope site only shows how to get files FROM the localfs mount. How do I use a manage_addImage to put a file into the mount? Is this possible? It does insinuate somewhere that this can be done, but no examples for a newbie like myself... Thanks again Zopistas, Paz

Simple DTML question
by Paul and Naomi Newman 22 Feb '01

22 Feb '01

I am trying to make a DTML method that will list all the DTML documents in a folder with links to them. Here is what I did: <ul> <dtml-in expr="objectValues('DTMLDocument')"> <li><a href="&dtml-absolute_url;"><dtml-var title_or_id></a></li> </dtml-in> </ul> I name the method contents and call it by stating <dtml-var contents> in the document where I want the folders contents listed. This is giving me no output. The only thing I changed from the stock example in Chapter 5 of the Zope Book was the class 'DTMLDocument' - in the Zope Book the classes 'File' and 'Folder' are used. But in the API reference DTMLDocument is listed as a class along with File and Folder. Where am I going wrong? ======================== http://freezope.nipltd.net/wanwood paul(a)wanwood.co.uk ------------------------------------------------- This mail sent through UK Online webmail

Understanding dtml and/or its variables
by Damir Bartakovic 22 Feb '01

22 Feb '01

Hi all, I am using ZnolkSQLWizard and it creates output like <INPUT TYPE="TEXT" NAME="table.name"> ... Now I am trying to force the user not to leave the field blank. Usually it works with <dtml-unless "somevariable"> ... once again! ...</dtml-unless> but with <dtml-unless "table.name"> ... I get the error: Error Type: NameError Error Value: table (The Traceback is at the end) Like it seems it don't like the '.'? But for <dtml-var table.name> I'm getting the right value. So what I'm not understanding? How can I solve it and is it a good idea to use '.' in variables?
