ZODB parent
by Randall F. Kern 23 Feb '01

Is it possible to get the container (ObjectManager) an Item is in? aq_parent won't work for me, I need the actual container. Obviously I could store the path to the OM in the items manage_afterAdd (although catching changes to the OM might be hard), but I was hoping for a cleaner solution. -Randy

SQLSession and RESPONSE.redirect
by Andrew Williams 23 Feb '01

23 Feb '01

Anyone: I've just run across something interesting and I'm not sure if this is by design. Consider the following in a DTML Document: --------------------------------------------------------- <dtml-call Session> #SQLSession instance <dtml-if "REQUEST.has_key('blah')"> <dtml-if "REQUEST.has_key('test')"> <dtml-call "SESSION.set('test',test)"> </dtml-if> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect('nextpage')"> </dtml-if> <dtml-var standard_html_header> <dtml-if "SESSION.has_key('test')"> <dtml-call "SESSION.delete('test')"> </dtml-if> ..bunch of dtml/html <dtml-var standard_html_footer> --------------------------------------------------------- ok. So, when I wrote this, I figured that: when 'blah' exists, and 'test' exists, it will store 'test' in my mySQL database and then redirect to 'nextpage'... however, if 'blah' does not exist, then the document will be display, and if 'test' is stored as a SQLSession variable, then 'test will get deleted from the database... confused yet? Check this out... everything works as figured, *except* AFTER the response.redirect, the code: <dtml-if "SESSION.has_key('test')> <dtml-call "SESSION.delete('test')> </dtml-if> runs, effectively deleting test from the database after the RESPONSE.redirect. I've checked, double, and triple checked... I know this is happening, b/c if I remove the session.delete code 'test' is in the db. Am I crazy, or is this by design? Any info would be greatly appreciated. apache+mod_gzip+zope
by Bak＠kedai 23 Feb '01

hi all today i took another plunge and installed mod_gzip. v1.3.17a2 judging by the a, it looks like it's alpha. anyways.. my setup zope2.2.5 (with mod_pcgi2), apache 1.3.12, on linux installed mod_gzip witout a hitch. modified httpd.conf ---as follows--- LoadModule gzip_module modules/mod_gzip.so LogFormat "%h %l %u %t \"%V %r\" %>s %b mod_gzip: %{mod_gzip_result}n In:%{mod_gzip_input_size}n Out:%{mod_gzip_output_size}n:%{mod_gzip_compression_ratio}npct." common_with_mod_gzip_info2 CustomLog /var/log/httpd/mod_gzip_log common_with_mod_gzip_info2 # MOD_GZIP configuration mod_gzip_on Yes mod_gzip_minimum_file_size 1002 mod_gzip_maximum_file_size 0 mod_gzip_maximum_inmem_size 60000 mod_gzip_item_include mime "application/x-httpd-cgi" mod_gzip_item_include mime text/* mod_gzip_item_include mime "httpd/unix-directory" mod_gzip_dechunk Yes mod_gzip_temp_dir "/tmp" mod_gzip_keep_workfiles No mod_gzip_item_include file "\.php3$" mod_gzip_item_include file "\.txt$" mod_gzip_item_include file "\.html$" mod_gzip_item_include file "\._html$" <-----[1] mod_gzip_item_include handler "^pcgi-handler$" <---[1] mod_gzip_item_exclude file "\.css$" mod_gzip_item_exclude file "\.js$" since i serve zope thru mod_pcgi2 (thanks oleg), i add [1] above. and after sometime, here's the savings i got ----mgstat mod_gzip_log----- Number of all requests: 5124 Number of requests that were compressed: 756 (14%) Without compression it would be: 12 mb (12767 kb -> 13073489 bytes) Effective amount of bytes sent: 3 mb (3132 kb -> 3207908 bytes) Only 24% of real amount of bytes was sent to the clients. Saved bytes by mod_gzip: 9 mb (9634 kb -> 9865581 bytes) Log was analyzed in 0.951587 sec -------- which is quite good, me think tested with netscape ok msie 5.5 ko konqi ok others, not too sure. will report soon, when i got more info thanks -- http://www.kedai.com.my/kk http://www.kedai.com.my/eZine use Zope? then you got HOPE!

ZCatalog and searching the external data
by Dirksen 23 Feb '01

23 Feb '01

Hi, The beginning of Chapter 9 of Zope Book says 'You can also use it to search external data such as ... remote web pages.' But the chapter doesn't mention anymore on how to do that. Any clues are appreciated! Cheers Dirksen __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Auctions - Buy the things you want at great prices! http://auctions.yahoo.com/

RE: [Zope] KDE's Konqueror

Check out Mozilla 0.8 or a new nightly build. If you have enough memory, it runs much faster than before. I'm really looking forward to the .9 and 1.0 releases. Hear, hear to the mozilla team. I had to d/l the staticaly built version (I have some odd library combinations here:) and it ran happily. All of my previous complaints about it seem to have been addressed, and it seems to be running fine. I will let you know in a week or so if I can still bear to use it. Zope out of control
by Dieter Maurer 23 Feb '01

23 Feb '01

Today, I saw a Zope out of control (for the first time): It started with the report of a colleague that he can not upload an object. I checked the log file and indeed, Zope reported: cannot load object <objectid>: string length does not match ... Additionally, Zope (2.1.6) died continuously, after about every minute. The computer was quite slow. Thus, I check with "top": load between 130 and 250, changing rapidly, more precisely: oszillating between these two values. I informed our system administrator. He recognized that the zdemon process had 999 threads. After this process was killed, everything returned to a normal state. I do not yet know what went on this afternoon. Just want to let you know about our experience. Dieter

Fwd: Re: [Zope] Problem using AUTHENTICATED_USER

(This was my reply. I forgot to add zope(a)zope.org to cc, so I'm now forwarding it. Sorry for the confusion... I'm new to the list.) AFAIK, it only accepts a list of role names, no > objects, and can only tell you if the user has that role, as specified in > the acl_users folder. After more digging around, I finally found it. Read on if interested. (Or skip to the next section, I had another question.) My problem was this: I have a .news folder. I selectively grant manager access to that folder for some users. When such a user browses the site, any part of the site, he should see an "Add a news item" button appear. So I needed to check whether or not the user has manager acces _to the .news folder_. <quote src="zqr"> has_role(roles, [object]) Check to see if a has a given role or roles. </quote> I can see that calling has_role(roles) works as expected. Sadly, calling has_role(roles, object) does not seem to yield a different behavior. And that behavior is what I was looking for. However... <quote src="zope_help_system"> hasRole(object, roles): Return a value that is true if the user has the given roles on the given object and return false otherwise. Permission - Always available </quote> At first I did not even notice that this is a different function altogether. Silly me. Calling the following works. <dtml-with .news> <dtml-if "AUTHENTICATED_USER.hasRole('Manager')"> Blah. </dtml-if> </dtml-with So you did in fact point me in the right direction... You told me to go re-read the docs. :-) > [...] > > > Related question: How do I access AUTHENTICATED_USER from Python? > > self.AUTHENTICATED_USER works for me. Hmmm. I was not clear enough. I meant from PythonScript objects. context.AUTHENTICATED_USER does not work for me. I get no better results with container (obviously) or namespace (bound properly, of course). Thank you very much for your help. <dtml-if> question
by Hans de Wit 23 Feb '01

23 Feb '01

Hello, I am doing something wrong with a dtml-if, i have been looking for a few hours and i don't understand what is happening. What the following code should do is test wheter an image exists and if it exists render it in the browser. If it doesn't exist it should show an empty default image. I found two ways to do it and both do it wrong in different ways <dtml-let foto="'/Cis/fotos/afoto.jpg'"> <dtml-if expr="_.getitem('foto')"> <img src="&dtml-foto;"> <dtml-else> <img src="/Cis/fotos/Noface.jpg"> </dtml-if> <dtml-if &dtml-foto;> <img src="&dtml-foto;"> <dtml-else> <img src="/Cis/fotos/Noface.jpg"> </dtml-if> </dtml-let> The first one allways finds the true in the <dtml-if> and the second one allways the false. Why is that and what should i change? Met vriendelijke groeten, Hans de Wit h.de.wit(a)scp.nl

My Linux box at home died from hardware failure, so I was stuck using Win2k for a few weeks, and only getting a chance to use Zope on UNIX on my Solaris box at work; I'm setting back up my home Linux box now just so I can play with ParsedXML at home. I (naively) tried at some point a few weeks ago to compile a CVS build of it using cygwin, which doesn't work, because the python used by Zope was not built that way. I don't have access VC++, and I haven't tried Borland C++ 5.0 yet. I am going to assume (for my own sake, anyway) that it is best to stick to UNIX on ParsedXML until a non-beta release - that's what I am doing.
