hi all today i took another plunge and installed mod_gzip. v1.3.17a2 judging by the a, it looks like it's alpha. anyways.. my setup zope2.2.5 (with mod_pcgi2), apache 1.3.12, on linux installed mod_gzip witout a hitch. modified httpd.conf ---as follows--- LoadModule gzip_module modules/mod_gzip.so LogFormat "%h %l %u %t \"%V %r\" %>s %b mod_gzip: %{mod_gzip_result}n In:%{mod_gzip_input_size}n Out:%{mod_gzip_output_size}n:%{mod_gzip_compression_ratio}npct." common_with_mod_gzip_info2 CustomLog /var/log/httpd/mod_gzip_log common_with_mod_gzip_info2 # MOD_GZIP configuration mod_gzip_on Yes mod_gzip_minimum_file_size 1002 mod_gzip_maximum_file_size 0 mod_gzip_maximum_inmem_size 60000 mod_gzip_item_include mime "application/x-httpd-cgi" mod_gzip_item_include mime text/* mod_gzip_item_include mime "httpd/unix-directory" mod_gzip_dechunk Yes mod_gzip_temp_dir "/tmp" mod_gzip_keep_workfiles No mod_gzip_item_include file "\.php3$" mod_gzip_item_include file "\.txt$" mod_gzip_item_include file "\.html$" mod_gzip_item_include file "\._html$" <-----[1] mod_gzip_item_include handler "^pcgi-handler$" <---[1] mod_gzip_item_exclude file "\.css$" mod_gzip_item_exclude file "\.js$" since i serve zope thru mod_pcgi2 (thanks oleg), i add [1] above. and after sometime, here's the savings i got ----mgstat mod_gzip_log----- Number of all requests: 5124 Number of requests that were compressed: 756 (14%) Without compression it would be: 12 mb (12767 kb -> 13073489 bytes) Effective amount of bytes sent: 3 mb (3132 kb -> 3207908 bytes) Only 24% of real amount of bytes was sent to the clients. Saved bytes by mod_gzip: 9 mb (9634 kb -> 9865581 bytes) Log was analyzed in 0.951587 sec -------- which is quite good, me think tested with netscape ok msie 5.5 ko konqi ok others, not too sure. will report soon, when i got more info thanks -- http://www.kedai.com.my/kk http://www.kedai.com.my/eZine use Zope? then you got HOPE!

ZCatalog and searching the external data

Hi, The beginning of Chapter 9 of Zope Book says 'You can also use it to search external data such as ... remote web pages.' But the chapter doesn't mention anymore on how to do that. Check out Mozilla 0.8 or a new nightly build. If you have enough memory, it runs much faster than before. I'm really looking forward to the .9 and 1.0 releases. Hear, hear to the mozilla team. Zope out of control

Today, I saw a Zope out of control (for the first time): It started with the report of a colleague that he can not upload an object. I checked the log file and indeed, Zope reported: cannot load object <objectid>: string length does not match ... Additionally, Zope (2.1.6) died continuously, after about every minute. The computer was quite slow. Thus, I check with "top": load between 130 and 250, changing rapidly, more precisely: oszillating between these two values. I informed our system administrator. He recognized that the zdemon process had 999 threads. After this process was killed, everything returned to a normal state. I do not yet know what went on this afternoon. Hello, I am doing something wrong with a dtml-if, i have been looking for a few hours and i don't understand what is happening. What the following code should do is test wheter an image exists and if it exists render it in the browser. If it doesn't exist it should show an empty default image. I found two ways to do it and both do it wrong in different ways <dtml-let foto="'/Cis/fotos/afoto.jpg'"> <dtml-if expr="_.getitem('foto')"> <img src="&dtml-foto;"> <dtml-else> <img src="/Cis/fotos/Noface.jpg"> </dtml-if> <dtml-if &dtml-foto;> <img src="&dtml-foto;"> <dtml-else> <img src="/Cis/fotos/Noface.jpg"> </dtml-if> </dtml-let> The first one allways finds the true in the <dtml-if> and the second one allways the false. My Linux box at home died from hardware failure, so I was stuck using Win2k for a few weeks, and only getting a chance to use Zope on UNIX on my Solaris box at work; I'm setting back up my home Linux box now just so I can play with ParsedXML at home. I (naively) tried at some point a few weeks ago to compile a CVS build of it using cygwin, which doesn't work, because the python used by Zope was not built that way. I don't have access VC++, and I haven't tried Borland C++ 5.0 yet. I am going to assume (for my own sake, anyway) that it is best to stick to UNIX on ParsedXML until a non-beta release - that's what I am doing. Weird batching behaviour in Linux 2.3.0

Hi All, First a big thanks to Troy for helping me get this far. Now...I've got some weird behaviour with the batching, it displays my first object the way I want, but then it groups the remaining 4, instead of displaying the next three and the last 1, they way I would expect (and desire). This _seems_ like buggy behaviour to me. Passing paramaters ...

Hi, I'm not sure if you are the right person to ask, but how on earth does one go about passing form data outside one page and into another (via javascript, if necessary)? I had acquired this bit of code that is supposed to accomplish this, but (as usual) it didn't work: <form name=form1 action="" method=GET> <input type=hidden name=pic value="http://www.anywhere.com/js/pic1.gif"> <input type=submit> </form> *** And the below code would be on the second page that is the action of the above form: <script> _src = unescape(document.location.toString().split("?")[1].split("=")[1]); document.write("Image = "+_src+"<BR>"); document.write("<img src='"+_src+"' border=1>"); </script> All I'm trying to do is have all thumbnailed images link to a single html page that displays the related larger image (so I don't have to have a mini page for every singe image file).
