Weird batching behaviour in Linux 2.3.0
by Chris Cioffi 22 Feb '01

22 Feb '01

Hi All, First a big thanks to Troy for helping me get this far. Now...I've got some weird behaviour with the batching, it displays my first object the way I want, but then it groups the remaining 4, instead of displaying the next three and the last 1, they way I would expect (and desire). This _seems_ like buggy behaviour to me. (You can also set the range to anything not divisible by 3 to see similar behaviour.) <dtml-var standard_html_header> <dtml-in expr="_.range(7)" size=3 start=query_start orphan=3> <dtml-if sequence-start> <dtml-if previous-sequence> <a href="<dtml-var URL><dtml-var sequence-query>query_start=<dtml-var previous-sequence-start-number>"> (Previous <dtml-var previous-sequence-size> results)</a> </dtml-if> <h1>These words are displayed at the top of a batch:</h1> <ul> </dtml-if> <li>Iteration number: <dtml-var sequence-index></l1> <dtml-if sequence-end> </ul> <h4>These words are displayed at the bottom of a batch.</h4> <dtml-if next-sequence> <a href="<dtml-var URL><dtml-var sequence-query >query_start=<dtml-var next-sequence-start-number>"> (Next <dtml-var next-sequence-size> results) </a> </dtml-if next-sequence> </dtml-if sequence-end> </dtml-in> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> This is a DTML Method file, however the behaviour persists with a DTML Document. (Same code) So, is this a bug in Zope or my understanding of how batches work? (Or both? ;) Again, thanks. Chris

Passing paramaters ...
by michael7669 22 Feb '01

22 Feb '01

Hi, I'm not sure if you are the right person to ask, but how on earth does one go about passing form data outside one page and into another (via javascript, if necessary)? I had acquired this bit of code that is supposed to accomplish this, but (as usual) it didn't work: <form name=form1 action="" method=GET> <input type=hidden name=pic value="http://www.anywhere.com/js/pic1.gif"> <input type=submit> </form> *** And the below code would be on the second page that is the action of the above form: <script> _src = unescape(document.location.toString().split("?")[1].split("=")[1]); document.write("Image = "+_src+"<BR>"); document.write("<img src='"+_src+"' border=1>"); </script> All I'm trying to do is have all thumbnailed images link to a single html page that displays the related larger image (so I don't have to have a mini page for every singe image file). Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks. --Michael

Problem with JavaScript
by César A. K. Grossmann 22 Feb '01

Hi! I'm with a strange problem. I have some client-side JavaScripts that are included when the page is renderized, as in http://www.zope.org/Members/Caseman/client_script_howto, but sometimes the page is renderized with the Javascript code in it, messing all things. When this happens, I need to use the reload function of the browser several times, until the page is correctly renderized (sometimes after the first one, sometimes, after a lot of reloads). It is a problem with my browser or something with Zope? I'm using Zope 2.2.1 (Jeff Rush RPM packages) in a Linux 2.2.14 (Conectiva Linux 5.0) TIA -- +---------------------------------+---------------------------------+ | César A. K. DCOracle and chars over 128
by Shai Berger 22 Feb '01

22 Feb '01

Hi, I have been too busy to actually read the list in the last two weeks, but I thought I'd share with you my latest finding about ZOracleDA/DCOracle: In some circumstances (we suspect the LANG setting at the time of build) it chops 128 (the most significant bit) off characters inserted into the database as strings. In our case, it turned a (trademark) character into a (sometimes reported as ^Y). Since the latter is not a valid character in many sets, this caused severe problems in our related systems. We also had not-so-severe problems with ® (registered trademark, I think) turning into . ("."), because the latter is a common printable. We have two very similar installations of Zope with Oracle, one of them displayed this malicious behaviour, and the other didn't. As far as we could see, the only difference between the two is that in the computer which does modify characters users get (by default) a LANG=POSIX, and on the well-behaved one LANG=en_US. Oh, of course, the details: Zope 2.2.5 binary, ZOracleDA 2.1, DCOracle 1.3.2, Oracle 8.0.5, Linux. (Please cc me on replies; as I said, I don't really read the list very attentively these days). Have fun, Shai.

URL based access (was: [Zope] <dtml-if> question)
by Dieter Maurer 22 Feb '01

Hans de Wit writes: > .... > <dtml-let foto="'/Cis/fotos/afoto.jpg'"> > > <dtml-if expr="_.getitem('foto')"> Keep in mind: You cannot use URL-strings to access objects, neither as DTML name nor as parameter to "getitem"! In both contexts, they will be interpreted as an atomic name. Whenever you want to access an object through an URL, you will use "restrictedTraverse" (if the URL describes a physical path) or "REQUEST.resolve_url" (for virtual URL's). With these remarks, you can use: <dtml-if "_.hasattr(restrictedTraverse('/Cis/fotos'),'afoto.jpg')"> Dieter

Re: [Zope] Problem using AUTHENTICATED_USER

I do not understand what "his context" means. Nevertheless, I will make some remarks. Perhaps, they are of help: * "has_roles(roles,object)" will return "true", when the user globally has one of the roles in "roles" * it will return "true", when the user has one of the roles as a local role in an ancestor of "object" * There might be a bug in "AccessControl.User.User.getRolesInContext": the "__ac_local_roles__" are not looked up in the object itself but in its "aq_inner" (if it exists). I am not sure, however, whether this makes a difference, probably not. > Related question: How do I access AUTHENTICATED_USER from Python? AUTHENTICATED_USER is a REQUEST member. Depending in what kind of Python you are, you could use something like: self.REQUEST.AUTHENTICATED_USER (External Method) or context.REQUEST.AUTHENTICATED_USER (Python Script) or REQUEST.AUTHENTICATED_USER (if REQUEST passed as parameter) Dieter

Dtml doc or Zclass? [newbie]
by Philippe J 22 Feb '01

22 Feb '01

Hello, (I'm still looking for some good docs about zope way of thinking. The zope book is great btw) Let's imagine I'd like to add a keywords property to every dtml documents I have in my site. Do I need to add some "keywords" property to each dtml document I have? Shouldn't it be better to first create a zclass based on a dtml doc with this property already defined (with default values for example), and use this in place of the standard dtml docs. This may be problem as the site would not be standard. I'd like to still have standard dtml docs with added properties. Can I create a special management screen in order to let managers create new docs and edit existing ones? Is it needed? Or am I missing something with dtml-doc? It is quite important, because I want to make the work well at the beginning, else it will be a pain to change every doc because I didn't plan enough. Sorry for the simple question, if anyone could answer and point me to the right docs... Thanks ! Philippe Jadin
