Problem using AUTHENTICATED_USER
by Jérôme Loisel 21 Feb '01

21 Feb '01

Hi folks! I am somewhat unable to check whether or not the user has manager access to some object object. The following does not work as expected: <dtml-if "AUTHENTICATED_USER.has_role('Manager', _.getitem('.news'))"> <P>Blah.</P> </dtml-if> Instead of getting a true result if the user has manager acces to the .news item (a folder), I get a true result if the user has manager access to his context. Related question: How do I access AUTHENTICATED_USER from Python? Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks, Jérôme Loisel. PS: Shouldn't there be separate mailing lists for different types of users? Content managers probably have different questions from (beginning) developpers... -- Jérôme Loisel Lévinux: GNU/Linux dans les communautés à Lévis

Parsed XML can't do everything that XMLDocument could yet, but it is XMLDocument's replacement. It doesn't yet work with XMLWidgets, but I hope that it will. It has a real level 2 DOM, which XMLDocument didn't. We'd be interested in hearing about what you're planning on the zope-xml mailing list. -- Karl Anderson karl(a)digicool.com

I was able to do a basic test with LoginManager and ZLDAPConnection/ZLDAPMethods using Zope 2.2.4: In UserSource added these Python Methods: ------------------------------------------ userAuthenticate: parameter list: self,REQUEST,username, password function body: return self.ldapAuthenticate(username, password) ------------------------------------------- userDomains: parameter list: self, REQUEST, username function body: # I don't use this for my ldap implementation return [] ------------------------------------------- userExists: parameter list: self,REQUEST,username function body: return 1 ------------------------------------------- userRoles: parameter list: self, REQUEST, username function body: # call ldap method to get information on user results=self.getUserInfo(uid=username) row=results[0] return row.get('roles') ------------------------------------------- ldapAuthenticate: parameter list: self, username, password function body: # call ldap method to get information on user results=self.getUserInfo(uid=username) # an external method that returns an md5 encrypted password password=self.md5_encrypt(password) if len(results)==0: return 0 elif len(results)>1: return 0 else: row=results[0] # userpassword is the name for the password in the ldap directory if row.get('userpassword')[0]=="{MD5}%s"%(password,): return 1 else: return 0 --------------------------------------------- Added this LDAPMethod: ------------------------------------ getUserInfo: parameter list: uid query filter: uid=&dtml-uid; --------------------------------------------- Hope this helps, Corey

devel/production syncronization
by Gary Lowder 21 Feb '01

I'm having problems trying to figure out how to keep the production version of my app synchronized with the developement version. I need to be able to work on an app on my laptop, then move those changes onto my production versions of the application spread around several sites. Since when in use, the production app's data changes quite a bit, it's not as easy as just copying over the whole site, I'd overwrite a lot of data. It'd be nice to have an option on export/import to do something analagous to applying a diff to a file. It'd also then be easy to apply to several different sites running the same app. Any help would be appreciated. Gary.

hrm, wait, my last suggestion won't work, you can't just export /, and it'd carry all the data below it anyway. How do you put all of your logic away in a folder, off of say /, and have your data also in a folder off of /? i.e. how would accessing /datafolder/method, know that method was in /methodfolder/method ? Thanks, Gary. RE: [Zope] Zope hosting services?
by Kit O'Connell 21 Feb '01

I would recommend Hurrah (http://www.hurrah.com/) who host one of my Zope websites. They charge me $25/month and host my Zope site. I believe the package includes unlimited email accounts but you'll want to double-check that. They are the most cost-effective host I've found. Also, you fully control your own installation so you can put whatever products or customization in that you want. When I signed up, 2.2.x was current so that was what was installed for me at the time. I suspect they will now install 2.3.0 for you if you ask. -- Kit O'Connell Zope Administrator kito(a)clearcommerce.com 'yes is a world & in this world of yes live (skilfully curled) all worlds' - e.e. cummings -----Original Message----- From: Scott Chapman [mailto:scott@lund.com] Sent: Wednesday, February 21, 2001 2:14 PM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] Zope hosting services? I am currently hosting a domain consisting of a small handful of email accounts at a non-Zope provider. I'd like to move my email accounts to a Zope provider and have Zope and my email all on one provider (with Postgresql available also). I'm after a provider with the current version of Zope available for me to learn with and begin to make applications. I don't want to learn on the 2.2.x line because I understand things have changed in 2.3.x. I'd like a provider with full remote admin capabilities for email accounts, web content, etc.. I'll be adding email accounts over time and want short turn around times on this. I also want to be able to deploy my own web apps there and make them there as well. Does anyone have any suggestions for low-cost providers to meet these requirements? I'm at $16.00/month right now and while I'm a small-time player, this is the budget I want to stay close to. Good idea, I'm afraid I may have to do that. I could move all of my methods/SQLmethods, etc into my /, and they'd be available by acquisition (they're not used for anything else, so I'm not worried about polluting my /). As it is, my logic is all in the same folder as the base of my data, which isn't optimal I guess. Gary. search & edit
by Donald Braman 21 Feb '01

I'm about to start building Zope w/PostreSQL search and edit forms. As I do much better working by example, I'm wondering if there are examples (I'm happy to just go to the site and reveal codes to figure out what I need to do) or instructions that I should look at before I begin (other than the Z SQL Methods User's Guide). -Don
