zope script execution timeout
by Jlio Dinis Silva 14 Feb '01

14 Feb '01

Hi, first a more python/httplib.py specific question: I know there has been a patch for this module to support socket timeout exception but I cant find the bastard. Anyone? I can see that in Python2.0 the urllib module now has a timeout implementation but is it safe to replace urllib.py from 2.0 in zope's python modules? I know... I will try it... but if someone has any experience in this would help. Now more zope/Zserver specific: ZServer/medusa has a timeout option, I reduced this value but that just doesnt seems to work, I still have zombie channels running for days. Meanwhile I'm working on a External Method that imports Zhttpserver stuff where I can enter in the zope's channels poll and find the zombie ones and hopefully killing/closing the bastards, thats just what Zserver.maintenance() should do but doesnt. A final point is I know in unix I could use the signal module but I'm working on NT (dont laugh like a drain please :-), which doesnt support signals but supports a "structured exception handling" (whatever this means...), bottom line, is there a signal like module in python working on NT that I could use to for instance wrap httplib and urllib calls? Any comments? Thanx, Júlio Dinis Silva _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.

LocalFS and relative paths
by Ayhan Ergul 14 Feb '01

14 Feb '01

LocalFS is a very useful product, thanks to Jonathan. I'm wondering if it's possible to specify a relative path in LocalFS, e.g. specifying 'images' as ID and 'projectXYZ/images/' as basepath would mount sth like '($INSTANCE_HOME)/var/LocalFS/projectXYZ/images'? This would simplify moving LocalFS-enabled sites from one machine to another that don't have the same directory structure if you like to keep your stuff under the Zope tree, rather than at fixed paths. Currently, I delete LocalFS objects and recreate them when I move a site. Ayhan PS: Make this question a feature request if not currently available.

What you want is called "computed variable access". "_[expression]" and "_.getitem(expression)" are answers to this problem. Search the (searchable) mailing list archive for more information. Dieter

Do You know where I > can > find an working example ? <dtml-with "restrictedTraverse('/Test/Book')"> <dtml-var title_and_id> </dtml-with> accesses the object "/Test/Book". In general: "restrictedTraverse(URLPATH)" performs URL traversal similarly to how ZPublisher would do it. If "URLPATH" is absolute, the traversal starts at Zope's root otherwise at the current object. Dieter

How to Zope on a single IP remote Unix with several sites?
by Matthew Manderson 14 Feb '01

14 Feb '01

Help, I am struggling to get the answers I know are simple, but I can't find on the various resources. I have a Unix RAQ3 with a single IP address and I host several "normal" websites. I have installed Zope on my laptop Win2000 and am starting to build up my first Zope site. However, before I get too far, How do I install Zope on my RAQ and run different sites? and or upload my local site to the web server? Many thanks, for your help on this, Matthew ____________________________ Matthew S Manderson ATT ATII email: matthew(a)manderson.co.uk ___________________________

I use Opera exclusively, and it has two problems that I've encountered. Sometimes it fails to post form data when you submit a form, and it implements the correct behavior for cookies, which breaks versioning. I.e. it only sends the cookie if the path is that of the versioning object, because no path was specified by the SetCookie. This just takes a quick edit of the Version routines to check if the path is '' and set it to '/' if it is. Cheers, -Thomas

I also can't get a later copy of WorldPilot than 1.1 (I looked on sourceforge but couldn't find a download button) thanks tom p.s please also reply to tom(a)othermedia.com

Here's some crude code to do what you want. Note that some lines are broken by my emailer and excel may be picky about extra white space. yourMethodName.csv: Content-type: application/ms-excel <dtml-let query="YourZSQLQuery()" names="query.names"> <dtml-in names> <dtml-var "escape_csv(inStr=_['sequence-item'], REQUEST=REQUEST)"><dtml-unless sequence-end>,</dtml-unless> </dtml-in><dtml-var "'\r'"> <dtml-in query> <dtml-in sequence-item> <dtml-if sequence-item><dtml-var sequence-item><dtml-unless sequence-end>,</dtml-unless> </dtml-in><dtml-var "'\r'"> </dtml-in> </dtml-let> escape_csv: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('outStr', '')"> <dtml-if "_.chr(34) in inStr"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('outStr', _.chr(34) + _.string.join(_.string.split(inStr, _.chr(34)), _.chr(34)+_.chr(34)) + _.chr(34))"> <dtml-else> <dtml-if "',' in inStr"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('outStr', _.chr(34) + inStr + _.chr(34))"> <dtml-else> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('outStr', inStr)"> </dtml-if> </dtml-if> <dtml-return "REQUEST['outStr']"> Ayhan Ergul <ergul(a)acm.org>
