You should really reply to the list as well. Connecting to MySQL
by Donald Braman 14 Feb '01

14 Feb '01

I'm finding it difficult to put all the pieces together to MySQL enable Zope. I know I need MySQL-python-0.3.x and the ZMySQLDA ... and that to install those I need distutils ... but I'm running MySQL 3.23.33 on RedHat 7.0 and the distutils setup.py is conking out (I think) because all the directories are different. Is there an easier way? If not, can someone hold my hand a bit and tell me what files/directories I need to specify in the setup.py. I'm fairly new (two days with) Zope, (one day with) MySQL, and Python. -Don

I remember beating my head against the wall on this one as well, but I don't remember the solution off the top of my head. Do you have MySQL and Python both installed via RPM? //glw

indirect method call
by Ulrich Wisser 14 Feb '01

14 Feb '01

Hello, would like to call a method which name I got stored in a variable, e.g: <dtml-let method='standard_html_header'> <dtml-var "method()"> </dtml-let> Which should evaluate to standard_html_header to be called. (Actually I got a table with a lot of method names in it and want to select one of them.) Newbie question:Java and Zope
by Spinwing 14 Feb '01

14 Feb '01

Hello all I am approaching Zope and I am very convinced about its features. The only question that hits me is how to extend it outside Python and Perl. Not that I do not like the two languages, but I have already a good investment in Java classes and knowledge, and I was asking myself if it was possible to join the two. Therefore I ask if somebody can give me some idea if possible, how and so on... maybe it is already written somewhere and I'll get the usual RTFM :)))) but nevertheless I'd like to have an opinion. Thanks Stefano

FTP & Logging
by Kit O'Connell 14 Feb '01

14 Feb '01

I'm trying to convince my company to use Zope on a much larger scale than we have been -- we're using it for an internal dept. website, but I think we should use it for the external dept. website as well. One thing I am not sure of -- we would like the site to include an FTP capability. A customer would be assigned a username/password and would be able to FTP to this site to download patches to our software product. I think this can be set up with Filefolder, but I'm wondering if Zope does any logging on FTP accesses? If someone hit the FTP site, punched in a certain password, and downloaded certain files, would we be able to tell afterwards? What should happen, when the user does not provide the float? * should the field be omitted? Then try the ":ignore_empty" suffix. * do you want a default value in this case? Then try the ":default" suffix in an additional (hidden) form control to provide this default! Dieter

The current version of the CMF is designed to allow through-the-web customization of the default "skin" (which is delivered from the filesystem). We are scheduled to release version 1.0 of the CMF this month; one of the TODO's before then is to move the last "hard-coded" UI into the skins, so that it can be customized / internationalized. > - the site will need a good search engine.
