planning new site, Zope questions
by Henk Schets 13 Feb '01

13 Feb '01

Hi, we're planning a major update of our site and we are considering using Zope for it. However, I still have some questions left : (Note : we are absolute beginners in Zope) - we have no experience in developing with Python, is it easy to adopt this language ? - for the site content, we have non-professional writers (they don't even know html). So we will need a simple to use content management system. I understand, the management screens are suiteable. Is there some way to customize these for super-inexperienced people ? - the site will need a good search engine. Since we will be putting all of our articles in a separate database, is it still possible to use ZCatalog ? - how easy is it to maintain an Enhydra based website ? Generally and technically speaking ofcourse, I understand this has a lot to do with the complexity of it. - could you point me to some 'large' sites using Zope ? I have to convince some people ;-) Thank you very much ! Henk

Putting objects into CoreSessionTracking?
by Etienne Labuschagne 13 Feb '01

13 Feb '01

Hi there I have a normal python class. The class have as attribute a list. The list is used to store COM objects. I want to instantiate an object (instance of the class above) and then: I want to put the object into a CoreSessionTracking sessionData object so that the object can live as long as the user's session lasts. I want to add and remove com objects in the object's list. When I try to do this, the object will live for a while and then suddenly dissapear (it seems random to me). All the other simple attributes in the session object is not affected (so the session object did not timeout or something). When I tried making the simple python object a persistent Zope object, I ran into cPickle hassles with the COM objects in the list which I cannot resolve. What must I do to make my atbitrary object stay alive inside the sessionObject? Etienne Tel: (012) 348 4586 Cel: 082 442 8981 Fax: (012) 361 8355

Mailhost change in 2.3.0
by Stephan Goeldi 13 Feb '01

13 Feb '01

Be careful after an upgrade to 2.3.0 when you use productive MailHosts: I discovered that my contact form didn't work any more after I upgraded to 2.3.0. After some change it worked again. In 2.2.5 I could use the following reportAction content: to: <dtml-var send_to> from: contactform subject .......... Now in 2.3.0 I MUST use: to: <dtml-var send_to> from: contact(a)goeldi.com subject .......... So it seems, that with 2.3.0 Zope checks the form and correctness of a mail address. Right? -goe- http://www.goeldi.com/e _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.

cPickle.PicklingError in Connection.py when saving reference to a class method
by Grégoire Weber 13 Feb '01

13 Feb '01

Hi people, I tried to save a method reference to the ZODB (see below at #####). The nop method acts as default method to be called in do_something() if an other module using the class does not register itself a method. Zope 2.3.0 (and also 2.2.4) prints the error shown below which I do not understand. I'am using Zope under NT4SP6us. The same error occures in register_method(). Do I do something wrong? Or is there a bug in Zope? Or is this kind of thing not possible with the ZODB? Thanks in advance, Greg P.S.: As it seems my approach is correct (from the python view), as the code snipped at the end of the e-mail shows.
