Re: [Zope] 2.3.0 really not Beta?

>LocalFS is one we are picking on, but a good example of a rock solid cool >product that dies on Zope 2.3. Multiply this with many products and people >assume Zope 2.3 has problems. One solution would be to introduce a section with every product called "tested on 2.1.6, 2.2.0, 2.2.2" etc. I missed this e.g. for some other Products too, which were compatible with Zope 2.1.6 but not with 2.2.x. There was no comment about this on the Product site. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.

The HTTP/1.1 specification is unfortunately very vague with respect to what should be done with the request parameters. Thus, browsers have some freedom what they do about them. I am unsure what behaviour I would favour: If I have a GET method, I would usually not like the browser to append the old request parameters. For, if I would like them available, I can easily add the QUERY_STRING myself. However, if I have a POST method, I cannot provide the request body in the redirect. It would be natural when the browser would send the original request body just to the new location. I think, the second behaviour is more in line with the notion of redirection: send the same request to a different URL. However, my browser (Netscape 4) implements the first behaviour. > Not what I need. Why are you unhappy about the parameters. Usually, they do not hurt. Dieter

Secure Python Script
by Gerald Gutierrez 08 Feb '01

08 Feb '01

I think there was brief mention of something like this a while ago. A complement to the current PythonScript (I think that's what it's called now), where you are able to script objects in Python, but differs in that there are no restrictions on what can be imported and what can be executed. It can be made secure by only allowing very few people to be able to manipulate one, like only those in the Manager role (who can do just about anything anyway). I think this can be a real bonus to those web applications that are more than just a "picture gallery" or a "message board", like those that are logic intensive and maintain client state (like a game). The scripts can effectively become the "business logic layer", and eliminate the need to do file-system level scripting. I believe this was one of the goals of Zope -- to do everything through a web browser. What are the pros and cons of this?

Could this be the culprit? We have had that behaviour when we used an old DCOracle to connect to an Oracle 8.1.6 server: The oracle client library cause a memory corruption that brought our Zope down about every 5 to 10 minutes. Our problem disappears after we installed a newer DCOracle. Dieter

LocalFS Error on zope 2.3
by Ed Colmar 08 Feb '01

08 Feb '01

Hi all I just installed a zope 2.3.0 on a soon to be production server, but I am having some difficulty with LocalFS. It installs fine, but when I add an instance to a folder I get an attribute error, with value _local_path Then I am unable to access any of the other items in the folder... Good thing this is a fresh box, that can easily be wiped out... Thanks for any hints! Here is the traceback: Traceback (innermost last): File /usr/local/zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 222, in publish_module File /usr/local/zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 187, in publish File /usr/local/zope/lib/python/Zope/__init__.py, line 221, in zpublisher_exception_hook (Object: Traversable) File /usr/local/zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 171, in publish File /usr/local/zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/mapply.py, line 160, in mapply (Object: manage_main) File /usr/local/zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 112, in call_object (Object: manage_main) File /usr/local/zope/lib/python/Shared/DC/Scripts/Bindings.py, line 324, in __call__ (Object: manage_main) File /usr/local/zope/lib/python/Shared/DC/Scripts/Bindings.py, line 353, in _bindAndExec (Object: manage_main) File /usr/local/zope/lib/python/App/special_dtml.py, line 236, in _exec (Object: manage_main) File /usr/local/zope/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_In.py, line 711, in renderwob (Object: objectItems) File /usr/local/zope/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_With.py, line 146, in render (Object: sequence-key) File /usr/local/zope/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_Var.py, line 271, in render (Object: bobobase_modification_time) File /usr/local/zope/lib/python/Products/LocalFS/LocalFS.py, line 979, in bobobase_modification_time (Object: localfiles) AttributeError: (see above)

Hi Emmanuel, This question is better posed to the main Zope list (the Zope-Dev list is for Zope development issues rather than installation issues). Did Zope successfully compile extensions when you ran "python wo_pcgi.py"? Have you tried this with Python 1.5.2? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Emmanuel DISCORS" <webmaster(a)advl.org> To: <zope-dev(a)zope.org> Sent: Tuesday, February 06, 2001 10:41 AM Subject: [Zope-dev] Can't start Zope (Python 2.0 , BSDI 4.0 , Zope 2.3.0b3) => ImportError: cannot import name DateTime Hi all, Having this Traceback with Zope 2.3.0 & 2.3.0b3 Can I do something to start the server ?
