I guess software is considered stable if no one who was testing it (with with zope I guess is a LOT of people) found problems which could not be put down to there configuration. You are assuming your system (i.e. your computer/os) is perfect. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but yust because software douse not work for YOU dose not mean that it is the softwares fault. Also I should point out that just cos you spend megabuks on software dose not mean it is stable. >Absoluteley not. But it is strange to see people demanding stable software >without doing something good for it. I will tell you what I did for Zope: I created a CD-ROM with video presentations of the ease of using Zope. As far as I know there doesn't exist such stuff on the Zope site. That's why we created it ourselves. Open Source doesn't only live of the programmers. There are the guys too who fight with the dummy managers who think only micro~1.oft Software is good business software. But of course this is some work you cannot see on this mailing list. >Now something more constructive. >First time I installed 2.3 I >copied old Data.fs from 2.2.5, but later I found that 2.3 has much nicer >interface, and I wanted to preserve its original root folder, so I >restarted 2.2.5, exported all folders, and imported them to fresh 2.3. I did it exactly the same way except of the reimporting of ZClasses. There is no such product. The only product may be LocalFS. which I installed AFTER the reimporting of the exported object-tree. Thank you, this was a really constructive note. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.

Users of free software are usually keeping in touch with authors using maillists and newsgroups. BTW, I had a lot of minor problems with Zope (especially with Copy/Paste), and I thought (although never couldn't prove it) that SiteAccess is a part of the problem. After installing 2.3 all my problems gone away (at least I think "all" - I didn't do extensive test; but Copy/Paste certainly work much better for me). 2.3.0 really not Beta?
by Stephan Goeldi 08 Feb '01

I installed 2.3.0 today and since then the Zope installation is gone away sometimes. Before I had 2.2.2 and 2.2.5 installed without any problems for MONTHS!!!!! 2.3.0 seems to be a little unstable for now, and I think I will return back to 2.2.5 again. There are other problems with SiteRoot which worked like a champ for months under 2.2.5. I don't understand why it can be declared as 'stable' with such behaving. Where these bugs not detected in beta phase? _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.

Had a play with this and I think the time refures to the main object (i.e. the one the UTL is pointing to). I guess you need a way of explicitly getting the date/time of the news object, but I don't know how. >Following Problem: > >I am using <bobobase_modification_time> in my standard_html_footer. >It works fine if I am changing the index_html in which the >standard_html_footer is included. >But the index_html has also a variable "news"(dtml-method) included. >A lot of links on the goeldi pages cause error messages >"Resource not found" and "The requested URL could not be retrieved". > >That way it's absolutely no competetion, that way you can forget it. This was the 'upgrading to Zope 2.3.0' experience I mentioned earlier this afternoon. And it was the reason why we returned to 2.2.5 some minutes later. You should not piss in this way on other people. It doesn't make a better impression than 'resource not found'. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.

Troubleshooting Zope Server Failure
by paul_s_johnson＠urscorp.com 08 Feb '01

08 Feb '01

I am running Zope as a CGI process behind Apache on Linux and from time to time my Zope process is going down (Apache remains up). Where do I begin to track the source of the problem down? Since I am not in the driver's seat when it goes down I don't even know what the symptoms are - help! Also a Linux friend (I am a Linux newbie) told me about a program called inittab that can monitor processes and respawn a process if it goes down. Does anyone have an example script of how I might set this up to monitor and respawn my Zope.cgi process? What are the ins and outs of such a solution? Can I set it up to page me (sent via email) if the process is respawned? Any tips greatly appreciated. P. Johnson

If it's the best ... you decide it. But on www.goeldi.com/e you get a virtual Zope server for US$ 28. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
