You can start an external process to do this. Be careful, to use quite a new Zope version. I have had a hard time with external processes and older Zope versions. Dieter

JavaScript help!
by Spicklemire, Jerry 07 Feb '01

07 Feb '01

Hi Peter, This is way too late, but in case you haven't resolved the problem with names of some HTML page elements, with colons (e.g. "name='data:text'"), the cleanest way to get around this is to retrieve the corresponding positional value of the 'elements' array of the form, and then refer to it's contents as: document.elements[array_position].value Now, how do you see the elements array values? One of our Javascript gurus solved that with: function el_count (form_name) { var newWin = window.open("","","resizable=yes, toolbar, scrollbars, status, height=400, width=600"); var msg = '<html><body><p><table border="1"><tr><th>element</th><th>Name</th><th>Value</th><th>Description</t h><th>Mandatory</th></tr>'; for (var i = 0; i < g.elements.length; i++) { msg = msg + '<tr><td>' + i + '</td><td>' + g.elements[i].name + '</td><td>' + g.elements[i].value + '</td>'; if (g.elements[i].desc > '') msg = msg + '<td>' + g.elements[i].desc + '</td>'; else msg = msg + '<td> </td>'; if ((g.elements[i].mand) || (! g.elements[i].opt)) msg = msg + '<td>Yes</td>'; else msg = msg + '<td> </td>'; msg = msg + '</tr>'; } msg = msg + '</table></p></body></html>'; newWin.document.write (msg); // document.write (msg); } Place this in the <head> section of your page while debugging. Just keep in mind that if you add any new elements on the page, above the element you have to refer to by it's array position, you will need to update the value to match it's new position. I was scanning the lists for Javascript tips, and saw that you only got one reply, and it was very different from this one. Later, Jerry S.

Re: [Zope] Little Zope horror story

> | fuser -n tcp -ikv 8080 > > This isn't available on BSD systems. > > I'm sure this is a Linux only utility, Actually, at least on our RedHats it's called lsof (LiSt Open Files). As far as I know, it won't kill for you, but I've been using it a lot to counter situations a lot like Dieter's (I missed his original story somehow). In my case, the stuck processes were little Oracle threads (processes?). lsof -i lists internet files with the processes that hold them. "lsof -i | grep 8080" became an idiom. I haven't gotten yet to the part where I awk the output to get a list of pids to kill, but I might... Have fun, Shai.

What type of servlets are you talking about. Try going to the zope website and doing a search -;) >hello > >I'm a student and I'm a beginner with Zope > >I would like to integrate a servlet based application to >Zope instead of apache > >Is it possible ? > >thank you very much for your answers > >Katell > > >_______________________________________________ >Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org >http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope >** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** >(Related lists - > http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce > http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev ) > >

LoginManager in another folder
by Joh Johannsen 07 Feb '01

07 Feb '01

I've been using LoginManager for a while with no problem, in a folder. So any access to that folder and subfolders requires a login. Now I'm trying to duplicate exactly that functionality in another folder, and it is just not working. So if my hierarchy is like this: folder X folder Y acl_users I can copy folder Y, and the acl_users doesn't work, but I can copy folder X and it does! Anyway, pretty much anything I tried here just did not work (I just wanted it to work exactly the same as the one I was copying) So plan B: start all over. Using HowTo http://www.zope.org/Members/jok/SQL_based_LoginManager I create a document "test" viewable only to my "TestRole", and it does not acquire any permissions. When I try to view that page, as expected, I get bumped over to the "loginForm". The problem: the loginForm just gives a traceback. Why do I just see this traceback instead of the form? Did I miss some step in the How-To? Thanks for all the help so far. Regards, JJ

If you use a Python installation which is not thread enabled, your DCOracle will not release the Python interpreter lock. Your Zope will block while database operations are being executed. Displaying something based on role doesn't work properly
by Alexander Limi 07 Feb '01

07 Feb '01

Hi, I'm running LoginManager with cookie-based authentication on my site, and I use the following piece of dtml to show a particular menu in the header of a page if a user has a particular role: <dtml-if "AUTHENTICATED_USER.has_role(['SomeRole'])"> [menu] </dtml-if> It works fine, except for one document: standard_html_header. When I try to access a page on my site that doesn't exist, the menu is not shown in the header anymore. This is not the way I want it. I thought this may be because it was a publicly viewable document, and required no authentication, but all of my other publicly available documents preserve the menu just fine. Any suggestions to what I'm doing wrong or not taking into consideration? Thanks in advance, Alexander.

Using Zope - Newbie
by Robert Dean 07 Feb '01

07 Feb '01

I have been reading a lot about Zope and its uses but have a question. Is this something I can use to create and manage web sites or is it mostly for a website application? Also, would this be something I could run on the servers of my hosting company, or would this be used in a company that has their own T1, or whatever? Robert
