Forking a dtml-call
by Justin Stockton 07 Feb '01

07 Feb '01

I'm using dtml-call to make a call to a ZSQL Method that reindexes a mySQL database. In most cases this works fine but a few of the ZSQL Methods take so long to complete that the browser times out. Is there any way to fork the dtml-calls (or the ZSQL Methods) so that the server will finish the work in the background while returning control back to the browser? =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Justin Stockton | <xml>Its anything Development InfoStructure | you want it to http://www.devIS.com | be.</xml> =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Thanks for everyone who helped with 'mapping spaces to %20' post. Could anyone point me in the direction of stuff about how to let users put images into a database and how to include them on pages. Going from Zope 2.1.6 to 2.3.0: security issue
by Burwell, Becky <burwell＠parc.xerox.com> 06 Feb '01

We are in the process of moving from Zope 2.1.6 to Zope 2.3.0 We had some web pages that we wanted to restrict to people just at our research lab. We did this by creating a role called "localUsers". And then we added a user with a domain of *.parc.xerox.com that had the role of localUsers. This allowed anyone whose web browser was on a machine in *.parc.xerox.com to access the pages. This worked great in 2.1.6. When we brought up Zope 2.3.0 we find that we get prompted for an id and password when accessing web page that have our role localUsers applied to them. We can tell the user what to type, but it is annoying. What's the best way to restrict a set of pages to a particular domain without having to require the user to login? Thanks.

Re: [Zope] ANN: Core Session Tracking 0.7

>From: "Chris McDonough" <chrism(a)digicool.com> >A new release of the "CoreSessionTracking" product is out. The product >allows you to associate state with anonymous visitors between requests. I've been wondering about this for a long time. It allows you to associate state with anonymous users. Does this imply that you can't associate state with authenticated users, or that there's another mechanism to do it with authenticated users? In the servlet paradigm, there's a distinction between the HTTP session and authentication. You set up a session with an HTTP request, and thereafter if the session ID is returned to you it's the same session. In that session, the user can choose to login or not. Is this the same thing or is it different?

This didn't work. What is the better model to use if domain authentication support will be deprecated soon? > -----Original Message----- > From: Randall F. mapping spaces to %20

I am rewriting a website, it used matts free e-commerce to do the cart stuff. when I click on my 'buy now' link the following appears in the URL fields of the browser: http://www.aitsafe.com/cf/add.cfm?userid=3594172&product=Capital%20ills,%20D K%20in%20DC&price=5&units=1&return=www.videonetwork.org/cd/catalogue.html Zope generates http://www.aitsafe.com/cf/add.cfm?userid=3594172&product=Capital ills, DK in DC&price=5&units=1&return=www.videonetwork.org/cd/catalogue.html To set zope to generate the same stuff I think I need a function but not sure how to implement. Got as far as <dtml-let web_title="replace(title, ' ', '%20')"> <dtml-var web_title> </dtml-let> But it is not quite correct, any ideas? ben *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+ * Ben Edwards lostit(a)videonetwork.org +44 (0)7970 269 522 * * Campaign Against proper English, Dyslexia division * * Homepage http://www.gifford.co.uk/~bedwards * * i-Contact Progressive Video http://www.videonetwork.org * * Smashing the Corporate image http://www.subvertise.org * * Bristol's radical news http://www.bristle.co.uk * * Open Directory Project http://www.dmoz.org * *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+

A little help on path namespace
by Ausum 06 Feb '01

06 Feb '01

I have this folder structure: folder0.folder1.folder2.folder3.object1 and I want to call within object1, properties from an object0 located at folder1 (within the tree). I know that something like this would work: <dtml-with "folder1.object0"> <dtml-var anyproperty> </dtml-with> But I would like to find an "automatic" way, for wich I don't have to write the "folder.object0" thing, because the code will be used in a product, and it must be able to be used at any folder level. Is there a Python or DTML function that could locate the current object within the tree, and then look backwards for another object? (I haven't find it so far). Any other ideas if not? Thanks in advance, Ausum

Dynamic charts from Zope objects
by complaw＠hal-pc.org 06 Feb '01

06 Feb '01

This is a long shot... I want to use Zope (and some back end logic using python methods) to calculate and display a series of future events based upon some arbitrary start date. This is done for several disparate start dates for several different test cases (having different future events). I.e., for a given start date of the "parent" case, all of the event dates (and their dollar values) of the "child" events will be displayed on a timeline. Is there some product or method that I can use to generate timelines (i.e., money vs. time) dynamically based upon user-defined start dates? Thanks for your help. Ron ./.
