Searching ZCatalog
by Lauri Posti 19 Feb '00

Hi, Is it possible search TextIndex using regexp or something similar? I need to perform query like 'Effect%' that should match ['Effect', 'Effective', 'Effectivly'].. etc (similar to SQL 'LIKE' ). If this feature is not currently implemented, then can anybody give some hints how to do it, eg what classes have to be changed? Lauri

A question about Zope architecture....
by jiva＠devware.com 19 Feb '00

With Zope's acquisition model, doesn't it lead to a horribly cluttered root folder? How do you avoid getting the root folder cluttered with a bunch of junk just because it's used in sub projects underneath it? -- If we all work together, we can totally disrupt the system.

bug or feature?
by Sam Gendler 19 Feb '00

I have a very compmlex and expensive query that returns a large number of results, which are batched across many pages. When I don't enable caching, the database gets queried once for every next page (of which there are many), so I tried to enable caching. Now I get the same results on every page. This seems to me to be a bug, since I would expect the query to be able to display any subset of the results stored in the cache. Does anyone know a workaround that doesn't require Zope to hit the DB on every page, or am I SOL. --sam -- -------------------------- Sam Gendler CTO, Impossible, Inc. 1222 State St. Suite 250 Santa Barbara, CA. 93101 p: 805-560-0508 f: 805-560-0608 c: 805-689-1191 e: sgendler(a)impossible.com

advanced SQL properties question
by Sam Gendler 19 Feb '00

19 Feb '00

Does the 'maximum number of results to cache' value refer to the number of different result sets that get cached for the same ZSQL method, or is it the number of rows that get cached? Also, is spacew pre-allocated, so do I want to worry about setting values too high for queries that will only ever return a single result set, or does it not matter? If I set the max rows to 0, does that return an infinite number of rows? --sam -- -------------------------- Sam Gendler CTO, Impossible, Inc. 1222 State St. Suite 250 Santa Barbara, CA. 93101 p: 805-560-0508 f: 805-560-0608 c: 805-689-1191 e: sgendler(a)impossible.com

I don't have access to my email archive, so I can't search, and the eGroups search returns 1400 messages, so can someone briefly send me a note about how to get rid of the base href at the top of every document? --sam -- -------------------------- Sam Gendler CTO, Impossible, Inc. 1222 State St. Suite 250 Santa Barbara, CA. 93101 p: 805-560-0508 f: 805-560-0608 c: 805-689-1191 e: sgendler(a)impossible.com

You can't use rsync on Data.fs when Zope is running though. You will have to shut down both the source Zope (to prevent writs during sync) and the target Zope. The latter because FileStorage wasn't designed to have it's datastore shift around underneath it. What do you need load balancing for anyway? Is it for scalability, or for reliability? If you want scalability, surely the cost for ZEO can be justified? Also, do realize that Zope on a single machine can scale pretty awesome. We recon ZEO is only necessary for the absolute top range of websites. Zope.org runs on a single machine, just flexing its muscles a bit on 2 million hits per month. If you want reliability, why not have a second machine on standby, to take over in case of failure? I am sure that tweaking FileStorage to hold back from Data.fs for a backup wouldn't be that hard. This is not strictly necessary either, you'd only miss the transaction or so. You can then have the back-up Zope take over when a monitoring process deems it necessary. -- Martijn Pieters, Software Engineer | Digital Creations http://www.digicool.com | Creators of Zope http://www.zope.org | mailto:mj@digicool.com ICQ: 4532236 | PGP: http://wwwkeys.nl.pgp.net:11371/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0xA8A32149 -------------------------------------------

RE: [Zope] Worldpilot - logon

that depends on what imap server you are accessing for the mail content. WorldPilot does not "create" users for itself, it asks the imap server that you specified upon instantiating the WorldPilot if the username and password are existing and correct. if you run the standard wu-imap that comes with most linux distros on localhost your login will be your username/password that you use to log into linux. jens -----Original Message----- From: zope-admin(a)zope.org [mailto:zope-admin@zope.org]On Behalf Of Graham Chiu Sent: Saturday, February 19, 2000 01:26 To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] Worldpilot - logon Hi, Installed this product. I decided to write a database adapter just for fun and education so I slapped together this adapter for the Jet (MS Access) engine using Mark Hammond's infinitely cool win32com extensions. I can't imagine it actually being useful to anyone but it seems to work pretty well and I figure, what the heck? http://www.zope.org/Members/jfarr/Products/ZJetDA --jfarr
