MySQLDA on Solaris
by Christopher J Ceska 26 Jan '00

Hello Everyone. It has been a while since I have messed around with Zope, at least a month or so. Anyway, I am trying to get connectivity from Zope to a MySQL database. I am having some trouble, I am not sure if this is related to solaris, or the ZMySQLDA. Currently I am testing Solaris 7 x86, when everything works, and I learn more it will be upsized to Sparc hardware. I get the following error then I try to 'build' MySQLDA: ld -G _mysqlmodule.o -L/usr/local/mysql/lib -lmysqlclient -o _mysqlmodule.so Traceback (innermost last): File "build.py", line 14, in ? import MySQLdb File "MySQLdb.py", line 19, in ? from _mysql import * ImportError: ld.so.1: python: fatal: relocation error: file /usr/local/lib/mysql/libmysqlclient.so.6: symbol __udivdi3: referenced symbol not found Everything seems to be in the correct places - is that symbol part of something I might not have installed? Any help on this would be great. -chris

Solaris can be annoying that way. Anthony -- Anthony Baxter <anthony(a)interlink.com.au> It's never too late to have a happy childhood.

New version of Local File System
by Jonothan Farr 25 Jan '00

25 Jan '00

I've released a new version of the Local File System product, version 0.1.4. This version fixes major problems with acquisition, so I recommend anyone using the product upgrade to this version. It also adds support for connecting to network shares using UNC paths on Windows platforms, thanks to code submitted by Jephte CLAIN. http://www.zope.org/Members/jfarr/LocalFS -jfarr ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hi! Problem installing Zope2 on DU OSF1 V4
by Damian Soto 25 Jan '00

25 Jan '00

I have tried to run Zope 2.1.2 on Digital Unix. OSF1 V4.0F Using the default start script I get to the the first page but then the ZServer gives a fatal stack overflow error message, as soon as I click on one of the links. Is this a threads problem? I tried compiling my own python with-dec-threads option enabled but had the same result. Any help apreaciated ? Here is some information, that might be of help. This is a slow alpha machine with 24M of RAM. The proces takes a good while to start up. Eating up RAM until it reaches 14Mb. I get the first page, but as soon as I request a diferent page (by clicking on /QuickStart/ or /manage links) I get: Stack overflow: pid 11182, proc python, addr 0x14085ffe8, pc 0x12003c318 the process then dies and a new one slowly loads... Reloading the root page or /index_html seems not to cause the Stack Overflow error. Thanks in advance, damian

Oracle and WinNT
by Darcy Clark 25 Jan '00

25 Jan '00

I have had experience with integrating Zope with MySQL on Linux with the MySQLDA. For an upcoming project, I will need to use Zope and Oracle on WinNT. Am I correct is thinking that the OracleDA only works on Unix, and the the ODBC DA is my only option on WinNT ? Also, which version or module of the Oracle suite should I be using (Oracle8, Oracle8i, Oracle 8i lite, Oracle RDB) ? thanks for any info., Darcy --------------------------------------------------- Ph: (734) 764 3377 Email: darcyc(a)engin.umich.edu URL: http://www-personal.engin.umich.edu/~darcyc/ --------------------------------------------------- 'If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate' ..... Re: Anyone using Zope Mail Host with MS Exchange ? (chas)
by David Salgado 25 Jan '00

Hi Chas >I have a client reporting that mail sent from Zope >using a MS Exchange box as their Zope Mail Host >never arrives. Just tried using our Exchange server as the SMTP server for a MailHost (which works just fine with the other two 'real' SMTP servers I have access to, and sure enough, the mail never arrived. Looks like a real MS feature -- anyone else? BTW, the Exchange server works OK as an SMTP host from Outlook Express, which is the only 'standards-based' mail client I've got on this machine. Cheers David

Anon. ftp?
by Robb Shecter 25 Jan '00

25 Jan '00

Hi, How does one configure Zope to allow anonymous ftp to certain directories? I tried connecting as anonymous, but I could not access anything. I notice, though, that zope.org makes products available for downloading via http. It seems like http could replace anon ftp except that ftp has a reputation for being more error-free for large downloads. Anyone have an opinion here? - Robb

My Data.fs won't pack with 2.1.3
by Wade Simmons 25 Jan '00

25 Jan '00

I'm using Zope 2.1.3 When I try to pack my database (about 300M) I get a browser timeout. The python process seems to keep packing for a while after that. When all is done the database is the same size (the first time it was .1M bigger) and there is a Data.fs.pack file left in the var directory. The Data.fs should pack down quite a bit because I previously deleted a large portion of the stuff in the database. Has anyone seen this and does anyone know how to fix it? Thanks, Wade Simmons wsimmons(a)ep.newtimes.com

I have similar concerns (which is why I don't run it either, tho the code is very clean and well written). I have a second test system that I've been beating on it with however with the side intent to see if I could get it to front Zope at some time (haven't touched that yet). So far it seems to perform admirably. > I don't like leaving even SSH and port 80 open. That paranoid I'm not. I watch Bugtraq and CERT of course, but I have quite a bit of faith in SSH 1.2.27+ given a build from raw sources with checked signatures and no RSAREF. I have far more concern about arbitrary user logins to a box (there are far more shell-level exploits than network exploits) than SSH itself. -- J C Lawrence Home: claw(a)kanga.nu ----------(*) Other: coder(a)kanga.nu --=| A man is as sane as he is dangerous to his environment |=--
