What you're seeing is the title_or_id of the containing folder. You'll need to spend some time with the Zope Content Manager's Guide to get a feel for why this is happening. standard_html_header difficulties
by Darcy Clark 03 Dec '99

03 Dec '99

What I want to do seems like it should be simple, but from my newbie/non-Zen/still-confused-by-acquisition perspective I am stumped. I have a standard_html_header in / folder : <HTML> <HEAD> <TITLE> </TITLE> </HEAD> <BODY> In the /mse250 folder, I have a method index_html with title="The MSE250 Homepage" as follows : <H2></H2> blah, blah, blah .... What I want to do is have my standard_html_header file use (i.e. "The MSE250 Homepage") instead of the root folder (i.e. MSE250) between the <TITLE> </TITLE> tags. This seems like a logical thing to want to do - to cut down on the amount of repetitive code by using a standard header, but at the same time, having the header change depending on what method is calling it. any help is greatly appreciated , Darcy -- --------------------------------------------------- Ph: (734) 764 3377 Email: darcyc(a)engin.umich.edu URL: http://www-personal.engin.umich.edu/~darcyc/ --------------------------------------------------- 'If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate' ..... disable page cacheing
by Adam Gotheridge 03 Dec '99

How do stop a page from being cached in either the browser or with Zope? I have added a meta tag like <META http-equiv="EXPIRES" CONTENT="31 Dec 99">, but it doesn't do anything so I think the page is being cached from zope somehow. Thanks

NOTICE about linux 2.1.0 binary, was: problems running 2.1.0 fin al al
by Brian Lloyd 03 Dec '99

03 Dec '99

> I have the same trouble trying to install the XMLDocument > product. My guess is > that somebody upgraded to a glibc2.1 system (e.g., RH 6.0) > and built the Linux > binaries (the .so files) there. We recently had to rebuild the binaries for the linux dist. (for all of them actually, to make sure that _localemodule was included by default). At the time, I didn't realize that the dev. machine had been "upgraded" to glibc2.1 :( The upshot is that the linux binary currently on the website is currently only usable for RH 6.0 users. If you _must_ upgrade before Monday and you are on 5.x, you will want to get the source distribution and build it yourself. Monday we will get the binaries for the linux binary dist. rebuilt on a 5.x machine and do some testing. Then I'll update the release on the site and we'll hopefully have a binary that's good for both 5.x and 6.x. [ANNOUNCE] Digital Creations and Fast Engines Team For Scalable Web Application Servers Application Servers
by Mike Pelletier 03 Dec '99

03 Dec '99

Digital Creations, creator of Zope(TM) and the leader in Open Source web development, announced that it is partnering with Fast Engines, the leader in web server acceleration software, to provide commercial-grade scalability for the Zope web application server. The alliance will dramatically improve the ability of high-volume e-commerce sites to handle peak traffic flows. Because Fast Engines enables load balancing across a wide range of platforms, dynamic applications operating in a cross-platform server environment can function reliably, even at peak times with 'flash crowds'. Class variables in ZClasses
by Darran Edmundson 03 Dec '99

03 Dec '99

The following quote is taken from lstaffor's ZClass Properties HOW-TO: http://www.zope.org/Members/lstaffor/zProperties ----- In the field of object-orientented programming, the terms "class variables" and "instance variables" are often used for the data structures that are common to all methods of a class or of an object that is an instance of that class. ... For example, you may want a given data item to be a constant that is shared by all instances; the constant can be changed only by changing the class definition. ---- I'm confused about how class variables are implemented in Zope. For example, let's say I have a ZClass with instance variable "Subject" which is a list of keys into a dictionary "SubjectChoices". Rather than every instance maintaining a separate copy, SubjectChoices should be a class variable - all instances see the same dictionary. Any insights would be most appreciated. Cheers, Darran. -- Darran Edmundson [Darran.Edmundson(a)anu.edu.au]
