Problem Installing with FastCgi
by Jochen Haeberle 03 Dec '99

03 Dec '99

Hi, I am having problem installing Zope 2.1.0 along apache 1.3.9 using FastCg on Linuxi. I followed the instructions step by step, got the FastCgi SnapShot and did everything as told.... Zope is running using ZServer and is accessible on its own port (is this correct when I intend to run it through FastCgi???), it creates the sock-file. The sock-file was created by Zope with rwx-permission to everyone, so I guess Apache can read it. I reconfigured Apache and fastcgi starts up as to the logs. When I try to access zope through apache I get a misconfig-error in the browser and the http.error.log says: [Fri Dec 3 17:30:29 1999] [error] [client 212.14.64.240] (111)connection refused: FastCGI: failed to connect to server "/serve/web/testzope": connect() failed What can be the reason for this??

For the primary client that I am working with, the bulk of the information that we are going to put in here does not really exist in any location yet. I'm deciding to make this a product because I have some plans to use this in a couple of sites which don't exist anywhere other than my mind right now <g> >Anyway, once a person logs on and you know their unique identifier, you >should be able to query the datasource to see where they sit in the >hierarchy when trying to edit another user. Just a thought. Given that I plan on keeping this stuff in ZODB instead of an external RDBMS, I'm not clear on how you find an object when going 'down' a tree.

ANNOUNCE: Zope and Microsoft Integrate Using Standards
by Paul Everitt 03 Dec '99

03 Dec '99

OK, here's announcement number two for today: http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/1 2-02-1999/0001087563 Summary: Digital Creations announced today increased interoperability between its Open Source Zope application server and Microsoft platforms using open standards. An early 2000 Zope release will include support for two protocols heavily supported by Microsoft, the Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) and Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) protocol. What's the translation on this one? Namely, we'll be adding SOAP support to Zope as an augmentation of the XML-RPC support that is there now. Also, Microsoft engineers are talking with us about interoperability with the beefed-up DAV implementation in Windows 2000. I'm cooking up another press release, hopefully for next week, then that's it for the holidays. Problems passing parameters to and external function
by Steve Jibson 03 Dec '99

03 Dec '99

I am using Zope 2.1.0 (src install on RedHat Linux 6.1) and I'm having a bit of trouble with passing parameters to external functions. I'm not sure if it's a problem with Zope or maybe I just don't understand how it should work. Here's a description of what I'm seeing: I have an external function (myFunc) that looks like this: def myFunc(self, a, b): return a, b I have a dtml document that looks like this: myFunc returned: <dtml-var "myFunc(1,2)"> When I view the document, I get exactly what I expect: myFunc returned: (1,2) If, however, I modify myFunc to include a default value for b, like this: def myFunc(self, a, b=5): return a, b when I view the document again, I get: myFunc returned: (1,5) even though I specified a value for b, it still uses the default. Taking the story further, if I change my document as follows: myFunc returned: <dtml-var "myFunc(0,1,2)"> I get a valid result again: myFunc returned: (1,2) Also, if I change the document as follows: myFunc returned: <dtml-var "myFunc(1,b=2)"> it seems to work properly again displaying: myFunc returned: (1,2) Now, if we take this wierdness one step further and change the document to look like this: myFunc returned: <dtml-var "myFunc(a=1,b=2)"> Then I get a Zope error: "not enough arguments; expected 2, got 0" when I veiw it. It seems like the more I play with it, the stranger it gets. (It seems that the Zope gods are against me.) Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Steve Jibson stevej(a)parlant.com

RE: [Zope] Zope 2.1.0 final has been released

Are there any more serious bugs that were fixed but not > documented? > > And I vaguely recall some new feature mentioned by someone > that's not in > CHANGES.txt - too late in the evening for me to remember what it was. The policy for CHANGES.txt is that all user-visible new features or bugs fixed should be in there, as well as all user-reported bugs even if they are not necessarily user-visible. In reality, this basically means most everything :^) There is a zope-checkins list that has the message for *all* changes, which I go through prior to release to make sure none of us forgot anything, but it seems that I may have missed something. I'll have the beatings commence at once :^) Seriously though, our goal is for CHANGES.txt is to reflect everything relevant to the community of Zope users. I don't expect that many things were missed, but you're correct to point it out and I'll make sure to be more thorough in the future. -Z option doesn't work on BSDi
by Bruno Mattarollo 03 Dec '99

03 Dec '99

Hello, I have a client that uses a BSDi server from Verio (iServer) ... I have installed Zope there, but from time to time it stops and I cannot find error messages in the Z2.log ... I have started Zope with the ./start script without the "-D" and with "-Z" ... and when I try to issue the ./start again after it stops responding, I get a message that the Data.fs is locked by another process. I issue a ps -aux | grep python and there are no process running. So I issue a ./stop and then a ./start and it's working again... Does anyone has a solution to this? I cannot be connecting to the server everytime it stops responding... :( Cheers and TIA /B -- Bruno Mattarollo bruno(a)GaiaSur.com.ar Proud to be a PSA member! http://starship.python.net/crew/bmatt/ Check out http://www.python.org/psa/ Powered by Python

External Methods and RESPONSE
by Tony McDonald 03 Dec '99

03 Dec '99

HI all, I've got a weird one here, I'm using Martijns' method of allowing people into a site based on domain (basically no password, and allowed domains -> AllowedUser and another acl_users folder on level higher with AnonUser = no password and domain = *.*.*.*). My standard_html_header looks like this; <dtml-if "_.str(REQUEST['AUTHENTICATED_USER'])=='AnonUser'"> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect('denied')"> </dtml-if> <html> .... This works fine and dandy if someone goes to a page directly. However, I am creating my output page from an External Method, which looks something like this... def sg_preamble(self, guideid): """ render the front page of a guide based on guideid """ .... template_str = self.standard_html_header.read_raw() template = DocumentTemplate.HTML(template_str) html = template(self) ... template_str = self.standard_html_footer.read_raw() template = DocumentTemplate.HTML(template_str) return html + template(self) Trouble is that I'm getting NameErrors saying that RESPONSE doesn't exist.. Does anyone have any ideas? cheers tone. ------ Dr Tony McDonald, FMCC, Networked Learning Environments Project http://nle.ncl.ac.uk/ The Medical School, Newcastle University Tel: +44 191 222 5888 Fingerprint: 3450 876D FA41 B926 D3DD F8C3 F2D0 C3B9 8B38 18A2
