The thing to remember is that once an object has been retrieved from another, you don't really have that object, you have a binary tree of wrappers connecting the object to its acquisition context. The binary tree is actually an ordered namespace stack. Anything you retrieve from the tree, will be bound as a new tree, one branch of which points to the previous tree, and the other pointing to what you retrieved. Of course, what you retrieved is itself a similar tree, repeatedly nesting back to the origin of the object on the one side, and the 'object itself' on the other. Hmmm. That would be much easier to explain with a whiteboard. Ah well. The tricky bit is when you start working with really deep acquistion hierarchies, because the trees begin to become fractal, that is, self-similar. (This is why there's lots of code in Acquisition.c to avoid needlessly re-searching common subtrees which have already been searched.) I suppose this all just goes to underscore the fact that Acquisition.c is a pretty heavy mojo. So never mind. :)

Zope and long running sessions question...

Hi, I have an application that requires the user to fill in some forms. The next form to serve up to the user depends on the contents of the last form. The transaction looks like this: user requests service: Zope starts up service Zope sends first page to the user User responds Zope decides what page to serve next Serves the page User responds ........repeat as needed Zope returns the result of the service request to the user. { for Zope read Bobo, I guess. I'm really interested in the long running Python process stuff, more than the delegation, roles etc at the moment. } I'm wondering how Zope would handle this. At the initial service request, Zope would return some html, but in some sense, it's really a function call OUT to the user to get some more data. the user then responds, but again, that's really a call to Zope. ZOracleDA isn't imported in Zope

This is now the managment interface works. Remember, Zope being open source, it is usualy a good idea to see how Zope does something that is similar to your problem. Since you can inspect all of Zope's behavior from the source, you can find all kinds of tips and tricks. The quick reference says: manage_users([submit, REQUEST, RESPONSE]) User Folder, Manage Users. submit can equal 'Add...', 'Add', 'Edit', 'Change', or 'Delete'. Add and Edit use the following variables from the REQUEST object: name,password,confirm,[roles,domains]. ??? but,  returns an error. What is the correct syntax???? DR

Q: How to pass session information from outside into Zope?

Hi, how do I transfer session (or authentication) information from a non-Zope site (PHP or else) to a Zope site? Cookies just work on the same site, hidden fields just work for 'post's. So I'll probably have to pass the information in the URL. My Q: How do I get Zope to strip and evaluate the id information I pass in the URL string, even if the Zope object I'm calling is not explicitly prepared to do that (i.e. it is no DTML method that has code for this)? Zope URLs are often created on the fly (db query), so the handling of the id string in the URL has to be acquired by some inheritance magic, I guess. Any ideas how to solve this? The inted is that the user doesn't have to login twice (the session id could be stored in a common db).
