Zope for managing software projects
by andy＠robanal.demon.co.uk 11 Oct '99

I'm new to Zope (but old to Python). I and several colleagues are interested in coordinating software projects among groups of contractors. We often have to work behind firewalls and must rely on HTTP. I'm wondering if anyone has built (1) Zope-based bug-tracking databases (2) Zope-based version control systems I'm vaguely aware that WebDAV is relevant, but cannot figure out if it is an internal technology for Zope, or how to apply it (webdav.zope.org seems not to respond). Many thanks, Andy Robinson

Re: [Zope] wikiwiki in Zope...

Hi Tony, I did some work on this last week. I have a product "ZWikiPage" which is just about usable. It's a DTML Document with wiki-awareness added, and it's pretty basic right now: WikiNames and urls are displayed as hyperlinks. Clicking a question mark creates another instance of ZWikiPage in the same folder. "Edit this page" brings up the zope management UI. I'll upload it somewhere after a little more work. Mail me if you need it sooner. I have some notes at http://www.joyful.com/cgi/wiki?ZopeDoesWiki HTH - Simon

ZClasses and properties
by Janko Hauser 11 Oct '99

You need to subclass Object Manager when you generate the ZClass. Than you can add other objects into the instances. If you only want to add photos, build another ZClass in your class, which represents exactly a photo object (subclass from file or image) with all the needed properties filled during upload. RE: [Zope] Turn static HTML dynamic?
by Chris McDonough 11 Oct '99

I developed an intranet application using Zope that allows member users to "publish" any sort of document to their "department" by uploading it via HTTP. So if your users are comfortable using Word, they can "publish" Word documents to their area, likewise they can publish HTML, etc. They use what they're comfortable with while producing content, and Zope is only the container.. There's also news, and a search function. The app is half-good, half-horrible because it was my first genuine effort at producing anything whatsoever with Zope, so it doesnt make good use of Z Classes in per-department functions. I had hoped to revise it, but other things came up. Please email me if you'd like to see it (I have to find out if there's anything supersensitive on the site now, otherwise I'll give you a username and password). If you like it, I can probably just "clean" it and send you my Data.fs. - C -----Original Message----- From: User Webteam To: zope(a)zope.org Sent: 10/11/99 8:18 AM Subject: [Zope] Turn static HTML dynamic? Hi! We´re thinking about using Zope for our University website. Now we face following problem: We need a simple solution for people who don´t want to care about DTML to publish their documents using Composer or similar WYSIWYG tools. These documents should be rendered with some standard HTML-code (navigation and the like). Is there any possibility to do this without having to teach everyone <dtml-var> etc.? We tested various things (access rules) but in the best case we end up with nested <html> tags. Unfortunately, we have no python experts here and we´re not learning fast enough to present a solution within time. Some background info: we have to ensure that virtually erveryone here has a simple way to put information on the net. Most of these people have little or no HTML knowledge but use Composer, HotMetal or even word to create their documents. So it seems unacceptable to our bosses to bother anyone with manipulating sources. We would really like to use Zope because of its great management features, user management and expandibility (and its price ;-), so any hints would be highly appreciated. wikiwiki in Zope...
by Tony McDonald 11 Oct '99

A few months back there was some traffic on the list about doing wikiwiki <http://c2.com/cgi/wiki > in Zope. It seemed that most people were waiting for ZClasses, ZCatalog and Zope2 to become stable before getting on with it... Did anything come of it? tia tone ------ Dr Tony McDonald, FMCC, Networked Learning Environments Project http://nle.ncl.ac.uk/ The Medical School, Newcastle University Tel: +44 191 222 5888 Fingerprint: 3450 876D FA41 B926 D3DD F8C3 F2D0 C3B9 8B38 18A2

I need to follow up on my plan to maintain a Zope development plan on Zope.org so that folks in the community can easily see what is and isn't on our radar at any given time. Many of us are pretty heavily loaded with consulting work at the moment, so I haven't been able to get this going as quickly as I'd hoped. Zope is not so dope?
by Morten W. Petersen 11 Oct '99

I get this error when I try to edit a ZSQL method on Zope 1.x (in fact, I get it on all methods in one folder, and one alone). It came after I 'double-clicked' on the Add and Edit button on a new ZSQL method. (Accidentally, and stupid netscape submits twice) Is there any way I can fix this, I was gonna move over to 2.0.1 later today.. will I have to recreate 10+ ZSQL methods? --Cheers? =] -- ------------------------------------------------------------ "One World, One Web, One Program" - Microsoft Promotional Ad "Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Fuhrer" - Adolf Hitler ------------------------------------------------------------

The Zope.org site has a Formatted Document object that, I believe, DC is planning to release. It automatically includes the standard header and footer and allows the input of multiple formats (HTML, Structured Text). I don't know if it gets rid of redundant <html> and <body> tags. If it doesn't I bet some python string manipulation regulars around here could suggest the functions to use. (I would certainly think you could do it with regular expressions). Any comments from DC about the release of "Formatted Document"? Kevin
