Define permissions
by Oscar Picasso 10 Oct '99

10 Oct '99

Let me know if I have a well understanding of the mapping in the "define permissions" tab. As I understand it if for and object X I map "permission A" to "permission B" the actual result is that a user must have both the permission A and permission B in order to access the object X. (Supposing that all other permissions are disabled). I've made several test in order to try to understand. So let me know if missed something. U.S. SBA Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) FY 2000 solicitation... partnering opportunities
by Jim Salmons 09 Oct '99

09 Oct '99

To the General ZOPE and ZCommerce community members, Last week, the U.S. SBA announced the topics for its fiscal year 2000 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. Of particular interest to the ZCommerce and general ZOPE lists are a number of topics in Section 8.0, Technology Topics (http://ois.nist.gov/sbir/sect8_fy00.htm) These topics include, but are not limited to: 8.01 Adaptive Learning Systems 8.13 Infrastructure for Distributed Electronic Commerce, including subtopics: 8.13.2T Subtopic: Secure Agent Toolkit 8.13.8T Subtopic: Role-Based Authorization Policy Toolkit 8.13.9T Subtopic: XML for Workflow Management Phase 1 grants are up to $75,000 for 'proof of concept' and feasibility studies to prepare small businesses for going after Phase 2 grants which are up to $300,000 for applied research and development addressing the SBA's and Commerce Department's research agendas. SBIR grants are a great way to fund 'guerilla development.' They can also be the source of lost time and energy if you don't have the wherewithal to put the right team together along with the right proposal. Sohodojo (http://sohodojo.com/nanocorp.html) is an 'n2n-n2B-n2C' eHub serving a peer-based community of nanocorps, free agents, e-lancers and assorted small business revolutionaries. In addition to our general charter of being the 'standard-bearer' for the growing nanocorp community, we have a long-standing interest and world-class reputation for research and development in the area of ROLE-BASED EXECUTABLE BUSINESS MODELING technologies (http://jfsconsulting.com/home/jimbio_01.html) Sohodojo is soliciting partners interested in collaborating on the development, presentation and implementation of SBIR 2000 proposals in the topics listed above. PLEASE REMEMBER, this opportunity is most appropriate for TOP GUNS only. This is not an opportunity for newbies or learners. Your professional reputation and experience MUST contribute substantively to the credibility of the proposed research team as well as help you to make a value contribution to any proposal development effort. (Energetic newbies wanting to help and learn are welcome to contact us. However, please be aware that we cannot guarantee that anything will come of this effort, and if successful, the phase 1 funding is not likely to support a less-than-critical-path contributor.) The deadline for Phase 1 proposals for SBIR 2000 is January 12, 2000. We look forward to hearing from like-minded, self-starting, small businesses and independent professionals: please reply to mailto:hosts@sohodojo.com?subject=SBIR-2000_partnering_inquiry. Re: [Zope] Ordered Folders
by Janko Hauser 09 Oct '99

The ZClass/Folder can have a simple lines property, which serves as a sheet where the order of objects can be edited. Than you can include a DTML method, which can edit this particular property. Look at the managment screen of the views of a ZClass, there is a nice method to change the order, by marking one and making this the first. Just for an example. Probelms using a ZClass subclassed from an image
by Mike Salib 09 Oct '99

09 Oct '99

Hi, I've been trying to set up a ZClass that subclasses the Zope Image class. So far, no joy. I modified my ZClass's addForm method, the method that generates constructor input pages, to include chunks of dtml code that I swiped from the generic Image addForm method. My problem is that when I create new objects from this class, it doesn't actually include the contents of the image I uploaded at object creation time. Instead, the object's data attribute is simply the local file name of the image file I tried to upload. The funny thing is that it works fine if I upload an image from the Upload tab after creating the object. Any ideas? Re: [Zope] subuser can't manage_changeProperties?

Am I doing anything sketchy by assigning the builder a >proxy role of manager? Nope. Proxy roles are very useful when you need to provide someone with a very specific capability (like being able to change properties of a certain kind of object, but only through an interface you provide) and not a more general capability (like Manage Properties). Just make sure that access to your method is restricted the way you want, and that the method itself couldn't be used for purposes other than what you intend. Kevin
