This is because there is a 'self.attr = value' type assignment in the call path. If it's necesarry, that's cool, it's pretty low overhead. If it's not necesary it would be faster to not change the method object itself so that a transaction doesn't occour each time the method is called. -Michel > > > _______________________________________________ > Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org > http://www.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope > > (Related lists - please, no cross posts or HTML encoding! > > To receive general Zope announcements, see: > http://www.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce > > For developer-specific issues, zope-dev(a)zope.org - > http://www.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev ) >

packaging links
by Robin Becker 08 Oct '99

I have pages which contain the same link multiple times. Is there an obvious way to ensure that each link is defined only once? I guess I could add properties to the containing folder, but what do others do? So if I have a string property hrefFT with value http://www.ft.com/ I can refer to it multiple times inside my pages as ....href=<dtml-var hrefFT>...href=<dtml-var hrefFT> then I need only change the value of the string property to change the link everywhere. -- Robin Becker

by Lord-Data 08 Oct '99

hi, i have installed zope on a machine i have accessto as a non root user, and started up teh zserver. no problems so far, using 2 processes (pid's) however, when i conect to the web site from my (any) browser, the page is working fine, but a ps ux reveales zope now has 6 or 7 pid's running.. this has been seen as high as 16 so far.. its almost as though its spawning the thread to deal with the conection, then not closing it afterwards .. the system i belive is running redhat 6 .. my problem here is my account is limited to 4 processes .. and automated killing is shutting my page down very quickly. I would liek to know if anyone has had this problem? or know of somethign that might be causing this machine to do this? email me please, data(a)ihug.com.au or contact me via icq (514055) .. i need an answer to this rather quickly.. as my page cant really afford much downtime.. thanks for any help you can provide.. michael The Wolf's Lair -( New URL: www.vcdpark.nu )- -=- New Email: fuhrer(a)vcdpark.nu -=-

products making documents
by Ethan Fremen 08 Oct '99

hi, I'm trying to make a product/factory that produces a dtml document with certain properties. I follow the tutorial so far, but how do I do the equivalent of: <dtml-with "manage_clone(Home,REQUEST['new_id'],REQUEST)"> with just a document? I don't see anything like manage_clone for documents in the ZQR. In other words- I have a form, that I want to generate new Documents that get their contents from their properties. -- Ethan "mindlace" Fremen webworker

You can call Zope methods with XML-RPC just like you can 'call' them over the web. For example, in python: [michel@korak python]$ python1.5.2 Python 1.5.2 (#1, Jul 5 1999, 14:47:37) [GCC egcs-2.91.66 19990314/Linux (egcs- on linux2 Copyright 1991-1995 Stichting Mathematisch Centrum, Amsterdam Py$ import xmlrpclib Py$ x = xmlrpclib.Server('http://www.zope.org/') Py$ x.SiteIndex.news_rss() '<lots of XML content...>' Py$ In this example, http://www.zope.org/ is being used as an XML-RPC server. The method SiteIndex.news_rss() coresponds to the URL http://www.zope.org/SiteIndex/news_rss -Michel

No information about upgrading
by Perez, Victor 08 Oct '99

08 Oct '99

Maybe this is too basic for you out there but there is no information in zope 2 distribution neither any of the docs on the zope site about upgrading from zope 1 to zope 2. At least somebody should say to not overwrite your zope 1 install with the zope 2 one (if you haven't tried, it doesn't work, thanks god I've got a backup) - Atentamente, Victor Perez Muena IS&T Support - Port Area (Los Vilos) Los Pelambres Project - Bechtel Chile Ltda. creation time attribute?
by Perez, Victor 08 Oct '99

08 Oct '99

There is a modification time attribute you can access using bobobase_modificatio_time(). I'm wondering is there is such a thing to show the creation time, so I can place "New" for new sections on my site and "updated" for the updated ones. - Atentamente, Victor Perez Muena IS&T Support - Port Area (Los Vilos) Los Pelambres Project - Bechtel Chile Ltda. Creating > a Zope Tip for something like this isn't a bad idea. There is at least one major IE-Zope WebDAV (Webfolder) interaction problem (which I reported to the Collector and the list but was never responded to) which making working with webfolders difficult. Webfolders are case insensitive, at least in a number of cases. This gives "unexpected errors" (MS terminology) when working with the webfolder :-[ Rik
