Another intreresting behaviour in IE5 is the download behavior: http://webfx.eae.net/dhtml/download/ <SNIP> What is it? The download behavior is a ie5 behavior that allows you to download any file without having to reload the page. This is very useful, for example it can be used with tree views so that the sub items are not downloaded until you expand the parent. It can be used for a lot of things, including submitting forms (GET method only), use your imagination. </SNAP> This behavior come well in hand when implementing a link tool for ZIE or a Image browser, and make it possible to save in the background perhaps? I hope no one minds this sort of announcement being on this list (I know about zope-announce, but I don't know its intended audience). Apologies if it is misplaced. Last night the Philadelphia Linux Users Group sponsored a introductory talk on Zope (which I gave). There were about 30 attendees, and the talk was fairly well-received. I'm left shaking my head that such a fine piece of software goes so unsung, even within the sympathetic audience of a Linux user's group. Virtually no one at this meeting had even the smallest clue of what Zope was all about before the talk. We need to work on this marketing thing a little. Well, actually, a lot. Slides from the talk are available at http://sharon.iqgroup.com. Feel free to use them for any purpose whatsoever. And after working with MS Site Server all day, I have one thing to say: GO ZOPE!!!!!!

xmlrpc and zope- newbie Q

hi, i spent quite some time going thru userland.com, zope's archive reading stuff about xmlrpc. i see the potential, but can't really grasp how we can achieve that with zope. the announcement http://www.zope.org:12080/archives/Catalog/archives/1999-June/005831.html provide a little example, but really, i don't get it. can any guru help explain what and how we can use xmlrpc with zope? can we use zope as the server? if so, how? and i assume zope can be the client updating other servers to, right? i'm really stuck here. me-in-a-bind thanks

DTML vs. DW2 extensions

I found another problem with using DTML in Dreamweaver 2. Dreamweaver doesn't like the empty attributes, like: <dtml-var name="something" html_quote> gets rewritten to: <dtml-var name="something html_quote> ??? Is it possible to use; <dtml-var name="something" html_quote=""> instead? Problem with ZClass methods

I want to cache the results of a ZClass method in the ZCatalog record. This should theoretocally work fine as ZCatalog will call callable meta-data fields. However from looking at the code it will make a call such as "classMethod()". Now my method is a DTML method that references other methods of the same class. Calling it without arguments results in an attribute not found exception as there is no context being passed into the method. Why do DTML methods not have a defualt context? Why can't I call aClass.aMethod() and have it work correctly??? Basically I see 2 ways of fixing this problem. a) let a call to aClass.aMethod() include a default basic context that will allow references to resolve to its parents. b) Have a self object that is active in a method even if there is no context. This is a bit ugly because you have make sure every reference in a method uses self.anotherMethod().

Running Zope2 under a secure connection

ZClasses, TIny Tables, and Zclasses (update)

Ok, tried duplicating the problem I reported earlier. Still happens. I thought it might be a combination of subclassing CatalogAware with ObjectManager. No dice. Update products list &/or list of producst known to work with 2.0 ?

I just installed Zope 2.0.1 a couple of days ago, and I have installed a few products from the Zope.org site -- I have been running in to several products which don't seem to work right with Zope 2.0, and I have since discovered that some of the products listed on zope.org are not the current versions (Confera is a notable example) is there some way of checking on the most current versions? alternately, is there some way to show 2.0 compat or not? I'd certainly be willing to help with feedback on problems, etc., but who should be notified? the product's author? the site admins? Anyhow, just wanted to help discover what things are working and what aren't ... I spend most of a day working with 'broken' things thinking that I was making my own bugs when it was just incompatible versions ... very frustrating... thanks! Hello all, Could someone tell me what this error means: Error Type: ValueError Error Value: Invalid Header (0): The trace that accompanies the error does not show what command/tag/line this is happening on. By incosistent I meant from a user perspective. To have one named argument be treated completely differently from another depending on context is very confusing for the user. I think that logical consistancy and readability of a language are very important. It seems these were very important in the design of python however I don't think those principles have translated as nicely to DTML. DTML's goal should be to easy for everyone. Basically syntax "exceptions" are not a way to make an easy to use language. Anyone who has learnt english as a second language will tell you how hard it is because english has so many "exceptions". As for speed, this is irrelevent. A static value can be recorded as such regardless if a variable can be used instead. A simple check to determine if it is static or not is not a big performance hit.
