Hi, Suppose I've created Zope product which has a method whith heavy computations inside it. Is it possible to monitor execution of such method? I.e. not to wait until it finishes, but display the current status of computations. Regards Mike

It wouldn't be too hard to write something that bute force searches through your objects (ala grep and find, in fact we have this find machinery in Zope), but this of course would be prohibitvely expensive and it would wake up your entire object heirarchy. So the solution is to build indexes. Zope comes with all the indexing machinery necesary to do this, it's just all in Python. So to get indexing benefits you must write a product in python to take advantage of this. Luckily, we are working on this concept right now. We have an in house product called Catalog that will do just that, Catalog your objects in various indexes acording to a managable schema. We are taking our time with it because it is a complex beast which has bitten us before (we have done plenty of searching/indexing jobs before). > > I tried experimenting with the find feature in the Zope management > interface. The Catalog is designed to be flexible in making a Directory of your indexed objects (Caveat: your objects must conform to a certain schema, so you will have to define ZClasses and use those objects in your site, not painful, just more work). You specify in the schema of your object say, a keyword argument, and then build a tree of objects based on those keywords. This is nice because your objects don't actually have to be laid out in a heirarchical fasion in the object database, they just *look* that way. So you can have objects strewn all overthe place and still have your site look very pretty. In order for you to aquire permissions from on up high, you must aquire them from a container. There is no "super" set of permissions anywhere. A plain folder containing your ZClass can't know what permissions it wants because acquisition works the other way. In fact, it's a feature that you can't acquire permissions down, because that would break the Zope law of delegation and abstraction of control. Managers in upper level folders would have to deal with a growing list of mostly un-related permissions they don't care about. So if you want to define your own permissions on your own object, and you want those objects to aquire from a containing parent, that containing parent must also define the permissions your objects are interested in. Confera FAQ?

Zopesters, I've started playing around width Confera and have realized that it's worthy of much more useful documentation than currently exists (which, as far as I have been able to find, is none at all). I'm still very new to Confera and don't yet have any insights of my own, but would really love to volunteer my time to maintain at least a FAQ. Would others find this helpful? Has anyone else started work on this? Could/should it be integrated into to ZDP project? Should I host it on one of my servers for now? Please advise! Assuming no one else has begun this, I dug through the various zope sites and lists and put together the very little bit of Confera info that I could find into a FAQ. And I added a few unanswered questions that I and others have been wondering about. If it sounds at all worthwhile, send along corrections, answers, additions, suggestions, more questions, etc.! Hope this can turn into something helpful! - Jay PS - BTW if anyone's interested, I and a few others here at a company called Digital Garage in Tokyo have built probably the first Zoped sites in Japan. One that we produce is SonicNet Japan (partnered with SonicNet in the US, EU, AU) and just about a week ago we launched a new site with a role-based, scheduled news and cybercast publishing system with integrated artist information, a user-contributed and dynamically ranked network of personal music fan pages (affiliate-esque), and more. ever wanted to reverse the  tag?

i did! so, here's a little patch to DT_In.py, which allows the use of a reverse arg to the  tag, so that  ...  prints out a reversed version of  ...  the patch is against Zope 1.10.2 but should also work with 2.0.0a1, since not much has changed w/ DT_In since then. i don't know if anyone else needs this, but it's useful for me (my motivation - wanting to print out an unthreaded Confera topic in newest-oldest order!) --brian

Hi, I just installed Zope and the Zope-pcgi. I am using Apache-1.3.3. I can't log onto the manage. I fail authorization.
