Have you filled in the ZSQLMethod's argument list with col and fla? Unless a variable name is in the argument list, it is NOT found in REQUEST or parameters in a call, ONLY in the containing folder. AFAIK this is a security feature, so that you can parameterize a query using acquisition and properties of the acquiring object, without allowing the REQUEST to override parameters unless you explicitly specify. For example, you could have ZSQLmethod "base/larch/newstuff" as INSERT INTO  (ID, ) VALUES (, ) with "new_id" and "new_value" in the argument list. Then "base/larch/newstuff" accepts "new_id" and "new_value" as arguments, and looks up "relation" and "attribute" in "base/larch", while "base/larch/parrot/newstuff" looks up "relation" and "attribute" in "base/larch/parrot". Neither one allows ".../newstuff?relation=forbiddentable..." since "relation" is not in the argument list.

Since you are likely to want to wrap the result (e.g., 'Thanks for Registering, Daniel') I'd make the target of the form another DTML document and call the SQLMethod from the second document. Quick comment: the main gadfly 1.0 engine is *not* threadsafe, and I hear rumors that zope 2.0 is multithreaded. I recommend that each database instance be protected by a lock to disallow multiple threads from attempting to update or query a given gadfly instance at the same time. There are a number of places where extremely unlikely circumstances might lead to spectacular failures otherwise. In my experience you will never detect a potential problem like this in testing -- it will only occur during peak usage by your most important customer -- and you won't be able to reproduce the problem after that either... Of course if there are more than one lock around deadlocks also might be concievable afiak... Yes Mr. Miller, there is a quite simple solution to your problem. Since I am, in fact, you I know the DTML code you were using in your rendering document:  ... blah ... blah ...  ... more blah ...    You would get much better results. Also, if you had been paying more attention when you first wrote you would noticed your described problem was with _all_ fields with empty values. My best guess (which is still rather poor with my only basic understanding of Zope lore) is that the Z SQL method won't create a variable representing a field in the database unless it actually finds a value for that field. Greetings, I am a newbie trying to access MySQL via ZOPE. Basically I want to access databases via the web. I keep getting a mysql access error :" MySQL error select command is denied to user '@localhost' for table 'table1' ===PC SETUP=== Here is my setup. Redhat Linux 5.2 Python 1.5.1 MySQL 22.22.22 (most stable version) Zope 1.20.29 (most stable version) I have tried already to grant rights to 'nobody' and 'localhost' users. This did not help! mysql> grant select, insert on database1.table1 to nobody(a)159.121.xx.xx; and localhost, localhost(a)159.xx, etc... I added the line "mysql database1" to the connection screen. Can I connect with a usernamne and a password? Basically how can I determine it I am really connected to the database: ie is there a command that I can send to the database that does not need access? Also once I get connected (unless I give up) how do I access this database via other computers? I tried on a separate PC using the following URL: http://159.121.xx.xx:9673/manage and it sits and spins. It works on the localhost PC only. Thanks in advance for the help!!!

I've read the ZDTML guide, the Z SQL methods guide, and the managers guide, and none of these seem to give any examples of how to do this simplest task. We are commited and interested in leaving Gadfly in Zope, but we are a little strained for project resources at the moment. Hopefully, we will have a working version of the latest gadfly bundled with zope 2.0 final. We realize that this is an inconvienence, and fixing this is definatly on the board. In the meantime, you can get the latest version of Gadfly (http://www.chordate.com/) and use it in a non-bundled fasion with Zope. It will work identically (probably better, cuz you'd have the latest version) you just have to go the extra step of installing Gadfly. -Michel PS: Gadfly Database Adapter related questions should go here, not to Aaron. Zope2 & win32

I've managed to get python z2.py to work after building a bunch of pyds and copying into the lib python dir, but I see warnings FS21 warn: C:\Python\Zope2/var/Data.fs Database records in the future also I can't seem to access the root of the hierarchy & although I can get to the manage screen I can't seem to view the standard documents. I guess I should try to do some kind of install process, but what? -- Robin Becker
