Still having problems !

Hello to the list, Still have a problem trying to make Zope run. Specifically, HTTPServer is running OK, but if you go to the "manage" page, "sorry, serious application error" is displayed in both frames. I am using Python 1.5.1. Everything including the tk/tcl was built from scratch using the ports on FreeBSD v2.2.8. I have a Linux Redhat machine available to me where it was already loaded. Everything seems to be the same... I even make the var directory and access file permissions the same, but no joy. When you "edit frame set" under Netscape 4.5 the message is "management interfaces require a frame-capable browser". When I however point it a the Linux implementation it works perfectly. The linux implementation has an additional directory, python1.5, under lib where the FreeBSD port does not. The additional difference was that Linux implementation was under /usr/local/ where on the FreeBSD machine I installed in my directory. I thought I'd just kinda restate my problem from the ground up. Problem: Executing scripts through a Python other than the primary install on my ISPs machine. Conditions: 1. ISP has Python 1.4 installed at /usr/bin. 2. ISP has PyApache 2.25 compiled into Apache server for my domain (Virtual Host). 3. I have installed Python 1.5.2b2 into my home directory. (/home/c/change/local, with bin, lib, etc as it should be. 4. At command line, scripts execute correctly through my Python (I've set path to /home/c/change/local/bin:/usr/bin, etcetera (My notation, not literally "/etcetera" <grin>), so it finds the correct Python, executes environment script and returns everything correctly. 5. When executed through browser (through the Apache server, that is), no matter what I do, Python is either executed from /usr/bin or returns Internal Server Error. (I've tried explicitly stating absolute path to /home/c/change/local/bin/python, /usr/bin/env python, and for confirmation that tthe script is working, /usr/bin/python.) 6. I've also tried installing python in a local/ hierarchy in my cgi-bin and in my htdocs directories. (On a side note, if I could get one of these to work, should I worry about any security issues? They're both deleted now.) 7. I've tried directing python to execute through shell scripts as both .sh and .cgi, setting such paths and other environment variables as I thought prudent. The best I could accomplish was to get python to print (generate to the browser) the text within the '---' below, bypassing the Server Error by including an echo or two before calling python: --- Content-type: text/html </pre> Importing sys Done Importing sys Importing os --- I broke 'import sys,os' into two lines with print flags before and after because with just that line, all I got was: --- Content-type: text/html </pre> --- What I suspect this means is that the wrong python launched with the right sys.path. (Translation: Right: 1.5.2b2 in /home/... Wrong: 1.4 in /usr/...) If I add a 'print "Python %s" % sys.version' following sys import, I get: --- Importing sys Done Importing sys Python 1.4 (Feb 4 1997) [GCC 2.7.2.1] Importing os --- Summary: So, in a nutshell, I'm running in a 'virtual host' environment Apache with the PyApache 2.25 module compiled in. Apache does execute as my username. Apache does not seem to allow me to bypass PyApache (?) _or_ it won't consider (executable) paths not explicitly set somehow, even if executed as username through a shell. No matter where I try to direct execution, I end up with Python 1.4. (Now, This'll sound wonderfully naive, I'm sure, but my scripts to date have executed as #!sh, and the user shell variable used/set by Apache is csh. From all I understand, this should be irrelevant, but I wanna be sure. At this point, I'm rethinking everything I know about unix (linux) (which ain't all _that_ much, but I _had_ thought it was more than I'm realizing). Forgive if I seem to be rambling or missing the obvious. It's difficult to convey the level of my frustration in ascii. I've gone as far as setting 3 scripts calling each other before asking for python. At the moment, I have the two mentioned in Jeff's email (And thanks _again_ for all the help, Jeff!) running, with the added ...PYTHON variables to save typing between experiments. The current versions are listed below. Note that testcgi.cgi declares no #! I'm probably leaving out all sortsa relevant stuff, and/or missing something glaringly obvious, but hey, I'm tired, frustrated and kinda loopy at this point <grin>. Hello Zopistas A somewhat related question to Michael's context proposal. I have a simple dtml:    where I want the new property 'name' to be added in the folder where the property flag was found. is there a simple way of doing it? Am I missing the obvious? Have a nice weekend Pavlos

Hi everyone. I've been exchanging email with Chris and we have been unable to resolve this problem. Essentially he's attempting to run a simple Python script (as preparation to running Zope) on his ISP's system. The ISP already has Python installed in /usr/bin, is running Apache, possibly with PyApache compiled in. The latest attempt was to try and run testcgi.py with a wrapper script (launchpad.cgi) to set the appropriate environment. Is there anything obvious lacking in the scripts shown below? He has tested the code in his own environment space. Couldn't you just name it foo.ztml in the first place? Having a well-known method for obtaining DTML source is something that will be needed for FTP and webdav support anyway, so we can probably support at least a simple download tab for 1.10.0. The actual implementation will probably be a bit different than that in your patch though, as there are some ftp and webdav-specific requirements that we need to meet as well, and the underlying implementation will probably need to change later to accomodate those. I suspect that changing the apparent id of the object won't be a part of this (at least not initially), since this would throw most clients for a loop... sync Zope userids with Apache userids?

Hi Currently I have an apache server which has an authentication database containing some 50,000+ userids with associated groups. My question is how do I best (in this case quickest) enable Zope, which is connecting thru the apache server, to use these userids. The userids are stored in a mysql DB, using this DB directly would be great but copying it into Zope regularly would be fine. Any ideas? Thanks Patrick Diamond

Hi again Thank you for the URL to UserDb, it sounds exactly what I was looking for, but I cannot seem to get it to initialize. I have installed it into the proper directory lib/python/Products/UserDb and restarted Zope. UserDb appears as a product under Zope i.e. "Product at /cgi-bin/Zope / Control_Panel / Products / UserDb " but does not appear in the "To add a new item, select an item type and click "Add". " option in folders. Confera question, and calling sub documents of a peer folder

Two questions: 1. Will Confera be included in the Zope release at some point in the future? Is it available as a pre-release now? Is there a list of pre-release items available? I noticed the UserDb pre-release and that got me thinking. I really could use Confera 2. My root folder is getting rather jammed full of stuff, so I moved a database lookup and two formatting documents to a sub folder called 'Documents' >From another subfolder 'Airports', I want to "call" Documents.DocumentList DocumentList (a document) does an  to return some data that is formatted by Documents.DocumentFormat. The problem is that, regardless of where DocumentLookup is located (either in Documents folder or in /), the lookup returns false (no entries) when Document.DocumentList() is called from another folder. Specifically, Airports/index_html does this:  And in Documents.DocumentList, I have  ...  Search returned no results  I always get "No results" when loading Airports/index_html, but it does return results if I load Documents/DocumentList from my browser. This happens even if DocumentLookup is located in / Is it possible to "call" documents in peer folders this way? If so, what is the correct syntax?, or is this a bug? ps.  returns the DTML, which makes sense.
