Ok, thanks for the info Wayne The problem is not with python, it is that when you click on the test tab at the top of the python script editing page (within the ZMI) the data is being displayed in your web browser - which interprets html commands. If you want to see the html tags (for debugging purposes) when you click on the 'test' tab try something like: return '<textarea>'+mystring+'</textarea> This will do two things: (1) prove that it is your browser interpreting the html tags in the string (because your browser will create a textarea field) and (2) allow you to see the actual contents of 'mystring' If you dont want to display the data when you get back to dtml, use the dtml-call tag or the dtml-let tag to store the data in a local variable for future use (instead of calling the python script with dtml-var). Running a process in the background

I currently have a zope product that can download files from another server. The only problem is that while the file/files are downloading the web client is stuck looking at nothing. My goal is for the user to be able to click the "do download" button. At this point the user is given a status page that says "download running" and then be able to continue using the site. Since I know the filesize before the download starts I would love to able to do a status page "download 58%". Another caviate to this process, is that it needs to be able to run on Linux and Windows. I realize this is really a python specific question, but was hoping that someone has implemented something similar on thier zope site. Thanks in advance Will Smith

CMF bug

Hey everyone - I recently noticed that a previously working CMF Site I built starts getting error messages embedded on the front page and on other pages (like edit, view). The errors are like this.. Home Page: Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: getDefaultSorting When I click on 'Folder Contents' in the menu... Error Type: ImportError Error Value: import of "Products.CMFDefault.permissions" is unauthorized When I click on 'Edit' from the menu... Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: getActionInfo I installed a brand new CMF Site thinking this would cure the issue but I'm still getting the exact same errors on the new site (see traceback below). You are correct that I was using <dtml-var expr="<functionName>"> to obtain the value in DTML, however I changed that after I realized that could be a problem and went into my python script and decided to test it by clicking on the "Test" tab at the top of the python code and it still rendered (which made me to believe it is the python that is rendering it). Is this > possible to do? I don't think python is converting the string to html. What are you doing with the string once it is in the dtml method (ie. how did you invoke the python script?) Something like: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('avar', myScript() )"> or <dtml-let avar="myScript()"> should put the data from 'mystring' as text into the dtml variable 'avar' if you do: <dtml-var myscript> then dtml will render the contents of mystring to html If you are still having problems, post another message with the dtml & python code. I am trying to pass a string into a dtml document (from python) that contains html code, however I don't want python to render it, just pass it. As an example... mystring = "<html><body<h1> test1 </h1></body></html>" return mystring 'mystring' needs to be returned to my DTML document as a string, not as rendered html (which it seems to do automatically). Is this possible to do? Thanks for any help Wayne

Basic problem with zope behind apache: no images, no frames, etc.

Hello, I'm trying to set up a zope server behind an already existing and working fine apache on a debian/woody box with no X system installed. Large files with Python 2.3.4

Hi zope list, I am installing a server with Zope2.7.3 and Python2.3.4, all from source. The Data.fs might get larger than 2Gb in a few months. Do I need to pass the large files compilation parameter when I install python 2.3.4, or it's not necessary anymore ? Thx in advance, -- David Convent

Sorry for replying directly to you, Rob. I'll keep looking for some archetypes examples and research the CMF more. The breadth and depth of zope is just so overwhelming sometimes. It's great that all this ability is there but I guess I need a REALLY good zope/plone book. I'm getting the new zope book that comes out friday. Can't wait!
