Zope 2.7.0 and custom_zodb.py
by John E. Barham 28 Jun '04

28 Jun '04

I'm running 2.7.0 on Linux (Mandrake) with Python 2.3.4. I wanted to bump up the database connection pool limit so put the following custom_zodb.py in the instance home: import os import ZODB.FileStorage import ZODB.DB filename = os.path.join(INSTANCE_HOME, 'var', 'Data.fs') Storage = ZODB.FileStorage.FileStorage(filename) DB = ZODB.DB(Storage, pool_size=20, cache_size=2000) Zope starts fine w/ this (inasmuch as it creates a custom_zodb.pyc file) but the problem is that when I try to manage the database from the ZMI, it throws an exception complaining about not being able to lock the database. I've read elsewhere the using custom_zodb.py is deprecated by the new zope.conf file in Zope 2.7, but is there a way to specify the database connection pool size in zope.conf? TIA, John

Zope Member Log In behavior
by Jonathan Cyr 28 Jun '04

28 Jun '04

Hi, When you log in to Zope's management screens, I've noticed that users with access only to deeper folders are forwarded to their deeper folders automatically. They never see the Root folder or any other folders above theirs. I'd like to mimic this, how would I make a common login that redirects an accepted "member" user to their home folder? -Jonathan Cyr cyrj(a)cyr.info

[Warning] Zope/ZEO clients: subprocesses can lead to non-deterministic message loss
by Dieter Maurer 27 Jun '04

27 Jun '04

ATTENTION: Crosspost -- Reply-To set to 'zope-dev(a)zope.org' Today, I hit a nasty error. The error affects applications under Unix (and maybe Windows) which * use an "asyncore" mainloop thread (and maybe other asyncore applications) Zope and many ZEO clients belong to this class and * create subprocesses (via "fork" and "system", "popen" or friends if they use "fork" internally (they do under Unix but I think not under Windows)). The error can cause non-deterministic loss of messages (HTTP requests, ZEO server responses, ...) destined for the parent process. It also can cause the same output to be send several times over sockets. The error is explained as follows: "asyncore" maintains a map from file descriptors to handlers. The "asyncore" main loop waits for any file descriptor to become "active" and then calls the corresponding handler. When a process forks the complete state, including file descriptors, threads and memory state is copied and the new process executes in this copied state. We now have 2 "asyncore" threads waiting for the same events. File descriptors are shared between parent and child. When the child reads from a file descriptor from its parent, it steals the corresponding message: the message will not reach the parent. While file descriptors are shared, memory state is separate. Therefore, pending writes can be performed by both parent and child -- leading to duplicate writes to the same file descriptor. A workaround it to deactivate "asyncore" before forking (or "system", "popen", ...) and reactivate it afterwards: as exemplified in the following code: from asyncore import socket_map saved_socket_map = socket_map.copy() socket_map.clear() # deactivate "asyncore" pid = None try: pid = fork() if (pid == 0): # child # ... finally: if pid != 0: socket_map.update(saved_socket_map) # reactivate "asyncore" -- Dieter

Hi List, I have a ZSQL method selectedCentreQual that picks up parameters from the session: - select * from mv_CTR_QUAL WHERE CtrRef = <dtml-sqlvar expr="REQUEST.SESSION['CtrRef']" type="string"> This method seems to work fine, and returns a single record. When I try to use the method in a page template, e.g.: - <span tal:replace="here/selectedCentreQual/QualID">QualID</span> I get: - Error Type: KeyError Error Value: '_r' Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? -- Regards, PhilK Email: phil(a)xfr.co.uk / Voicemail & Facsimile: 07092 070518 "The lyf so short, the craft so long to learne" - Chaucer

Zope 2.7.0 crash on FreeBSD 5.2
by AM 26 Jun '04

26 Jun '04

Hello, I've recently installed Python 2.3.4 and Zope 2.7.0 on FreeBSD 5.2 and moved my Data.fs over with no apparent problems (at first). Previously I was using Python 2.3.3, Zope 2.7.0, and FreeBSD 4.9 on a slightly slower machine. However, now Zope is crashing with a segmentation fault when I try to edit one of the largest Python scripts (19k) in my site. This is a script that I last edited on the old machine. It runs fine, displays fine in the management interface, but trying to save it causes Zope to crash. Searching online seems to indicate that I should have set a larger stack size for Python. I didn't install Python from the FreeBSD ports collection (for various reasons), but did it myself. Does the Python stack size sound like the problem? If it helps, gdb traceback gives me: (and I don't know what most of this means) #0 0x080729f3 in lookdict_string (mp=0x867e4f4, key=0x815b4e0, hash=435549560) at Objects/dictobject.c:316 #1 0x08073741 in PyDict_GetItem (op=0x867e4f4, key=0x815b4e0) at Objects/dictobject.c:498 #2 0x0805b3c0 in class_lookup (cp=0x868526c, name=0x815b4e0, pclass=0xbfaab088) at Objects/classobject.c:189 #3 0x0805b807 in instance_getattr2 (inst=0x904548c, name=0x815b4e0) at Objects/classobject.c:729 #4 0x08060c65 in instance_getattr1 (inst=0x904548c, name=0x815b4e0) at Objects/classobject.c:708 Any help is appreciated. Thank you. We have switched to using webdav over ssl. That works very well. _________________________________________________________________ Protect your PC - get McAfee.com VirusScan Online http://clinic.mcafee.com/clinic/ibuy/campaign.asp?cid=3963

Re: [Zope-DB] off - Have Zope a querystring parse routine ? (plus others)

It is very difficult to decode what you want to do... Use a hidden variable if this is possible at all. If it is not (what I really doubt), then Python's "cgi" module contains methods to decode the query string. >2.) >How to I avoid in Zope that request.form items are appear in request ? >It is a possible way to inject variables in request from out... I am surprised about your wishes... Why (in hell) should "request.get" not return elements from "request.form"? Should you really need it, then use an External Method that removes what you do not like from "request.other" (that's where "request.get" really looks at). >3.) >I there a way in Zope to get some often used routines simply ? >(Aliases ?) > >Now I need to repeat in every pyscript: > >rq=context.REQUEST >... > >or >CreateCombo=context.routines.html.CreateCombo >combotext=CreateCombo(name,id,items,......) You have to pay a price for "explicit is better than implicit"... That said: When you care enough, then you can make your life easier -- by *MODIFYING* Zope code. For example, you can add a new "binding" for PythonScripts that make "request" available as an additional bound name (beside "context", "container", ...). I think, this would be a good thing... And you can add additional functions to the "builtins" for PythonScripts. To learn how you do this, you can look at my "hasattr_unaquired" patch in the Zope collector. But, neither Python nor Zope's Python Scripts support macros. All you have are functions... -- Dieter
