Who's experiencing FileStorage corruption?

[follow-ups to zodb-dev(a)zope.org, please] We (Zope Corp) occasionally get reports of FileStorage (Data.fs) corruption of kinds that aren't understood, and that are never seen in Zope Corp's own Zope deployments, neither in extreme artificial stress tests. We take corruption very seriously, and there are no known bugs in the current releases of ZODB that can cause corruption. Therefore we're very keen to investigate cases that may still exist. By "corruption", I mean what corruption conventionally means for any file: the Data.fs and/or Data.fs.index file is damaged at the byte level, as if someone had overwritten some region (or regions) with nonsense bytes. Of course this can be a disaster when it occurs. Visible symptoms may include: + FileStorage.py raises CorruptedDataError. + FileStorage.py passes on this exception from Python's struct module: error: unpack str size does not match format The only currently known causes for these are hardware problems (bad disk, bad disk controller, loose connection, flaky memory chip) and equivalently fatal system software bugs (buggy system disk driver, buggy system I/O libraries, buggy third-party software). If you experience corruption not due to such causes beyond ZODB's control(*), we want to hear about it! The best place to report a case is on the Zope Collector: http://collector.zope.org/Zope with topic "Database". Because database files can be very large, and may contain sensitive data, please don't attach them to the report; you should be willing to let us get copies of them privately, though. (*) How do you know whether the cause is beyond ZODB's control? You probably can't, and that's fine. A case where you can: the last time Jim Fulton tried to track one of these down, the customer's system was in such bad shape that they were unable to make a readable tar file containing their database files: attempts to do so created corrupt *tar* files. If I/O on your system is plain broken, then no, FileStorage isn't going to work either.

High quality hosting

I'm a Zope/Plone newbie, making the transition from HTML/Perl. I'm having a hard time finding a Zope hosting company that provides the kind of support I'm used to getting. I've read through a lot of http://zope.org/Resources/ZSP, but I thought I might get better suggestions here. Here's what I'd like: * 7x24 phone support * Hosting at a secure site with redundency * Trouble-ticket tracking for emailed inquiries In terms of the level of support, I'm not after over-the-phone tutorials. But if I ask for more disk, or the account to be restored from backups, or for some standard feature of their service, I'd like to get an acknowledgement within 30 minutes and a promise of when the service will be performed. I get this kind of service today in the non-Zope world for $20 to $50/month. I consider $20-$50 inexpensive. My (frustrating) experience so far trying to find a Zope host has been either: * Small, inexpensive, host the server in the back of the office, no support * Medium, inexpensive, secure hosting, email-only slow-to-respond support * Hundreds of dollars a month overkill Thanks in advance, ...mike

Authentication Error logging into Zope Management Interface

Hi, I am new to zope. I have installed zope . When I try logging in to Zope Management Interface, I get an authentication error. I tried changing the inituser and access files using :- "python zpasswd.py inituser" and "python zpasswd.py access" However I still get the error. No module named ZopeSplitter

Hi I have installed Zope 2.7.0, Python 2.3.3 and CMF1.4. on a SuSE 8.2 Enterprise Server. I have created a ZOPE_SOFTWARE , ZOPE_INSTANCE and a ZOPEPRODUCTS dir for third-party and plone packages. Zope is running ok. I get the following error when I try to add a Plone Site. Site Error An error was encountered while publishing this resource. Error Type : ImportError Error Value : No module named ZopeSplitter I have checked my zope.conf file products directive = /local/sw/zope/zopeproducts and ZopeSplitter reside in /local/sw/zope/zopeproducts/PluginIndex/TestIndex/Splitter/ZopeSlipter Can someone explain if I have missed something or must run a python script or something to enable this to run I didn't have any problems deploying Plone site on our existing Zope 2.6.3 site . Then you can have different buttons call the same method. 2) Use <button> elements rather than <input> elements. Button elements display their text content as the label. Cheers, Tom P

Awarization

What is the meaning of the word "Awarization?" This word is often thrown in as a heading in Zope product Readme files. As in "CMF/Plone Awarization." BTreeFolder2 disadvantages?

Hello, I was just wondering if there were any disadvantages to choosing to use a BTreeFolder2 as the base class for a product rather than a standard Folder. The object is likely to contain at most a few hundred subobjects, and in many/most cases probably under 100, so the choice probably won't make a big difference. Are there any performace (or other) disadvantages to BTreeFolder2 with a smallish number of subobjects? Or is it always better than a regular Folder? Thanks in advance. Alec Mitchell
