Catalog reindexing: field by field or not?
by Lennart Regebro 20 Feb '04

20 Feb '04

I notice that when calling manage_reindexIndex with several indexes, it will simply call reindexIndex once for each index. The question is, is there a performace penalty for reindexing several fields separately like this, or will it always be faster to only reindex the relevant indexes? It seems to me that at some point it should be faster to just reindex the whole catalog, since that just traverses through the objects once... (This is Zope 2.6, btw, maybe it's changed in 2.7?) //Lennart

Newbie Acquisition Confusion
by Murray Pearson 20 Feb '04

20 Feb '04

Hi everyone, I'm setting up a system for reviewing academic journals with a Zope front end. My client has asked me what would be involved to manage multiple journals on the system. It should be dead easy, but Zope's not behaving as I expect it to. Basically, I have the Python logic and ZPT presentation elements split up into folders (called "person", "manuscript", "review", etc.) within the "journal" folder (the root of the whole system). The style elements are in a folder called "skin"; the generic skin items are inside the "journal" folder to provide a default skin. The master page template is inside the skin folder. Also within the "journal" folder will be one or more folders for each journal, let's call them "abc" and "xyz". Each of these have their own SQL database connection and their own "skin" folders, to override the default appearance. It seems to me that the "skin" folder inside "abc" or "xyz" should override the "skin" folder inside the root, for every subfolder of "abc" or "xyz". But it doesn't -- except DIRECTLY inside "abc" or "xyz". http://server/journal/ <-- gets default presentation, as expected http://server/journal/abc <-- gets ABC presentation, as expected http://server/journal/abc/manuscript <-- gets DEFAULT presentation!!! I also tried altering the structure to eliminate the skins folder, making acquisition direct: http://server/journal/cover <-- gets the default cover image http://server/journal/abc/cover <-- gets the ABC cover image http://server/journal/abc/manuscript/cover <-- gets the DEFAULT cover image Am I doing something wrong here, or is this an ORB fault? I'm running Zope 2.6.1 (OpenBSD package zope-2.6.1) , python 2.1.3, openbsd3 Thanks in advance, Murray

deleting documents
by garry saddington 20 Feb '04

20 Feb '04

I have a DTML method which deletes a document from a folder, but everytime it does so it returns the user to the ZMI for that folder. How can i redirect it to show index_html instead of the folder contents for that folder. I am doing it this way because i can't work out a way to fire off a python script to do the same thing. The DTML method is below, can anyone help, either with the redirect or the script? <dtml-in objectValues prefix="loop"> <dtml-if expr="loop_item==ctfxml"> <form> <input type="checkbox" name="ids:list" value="<dtml-var id>" checked/> <dtml-var id> <input type="submit" name="manage_delObjects:method" value="Delete"> </form> </dtml-if> </dtml-in> regards garry

Importing Custom Python Classes
by D. Bickle 20 Feb '04

20 Feb '04

How do you import your own python class modules into Zope? Here is what I've done: In lib/python/Products I created a directory called MyScriptModules which contains the following: First I import the required Modules: from Product.PythonScripts.Utility import allow_module, allow_class from AccessControl import ModuleSecurityInfo, ClassSecurityInfo from Globals import InitializeClass Then I add the security declarations: from ClassModule.ClassModule import Class1 allow_module('ClassModule.ClassModule') allow_class(Class1) I created a ClassModule directory in the Products directory and placed ClassModule.py class module in it. I then rebooted the Zope server. Now everytime I try this: from ClassModule.ClassModule import Class1 I get this error: import of ClassModule.ClassModule is unauthorized. I have read somewhere that in order to create new Products in Zope you have to meet some Zope API requirements like assigning certain class attributes. Is this true? If so where can I find some documentation? Is there a better way to import custom Python class modules than the way described above? Thanks in advance.

frames in Zope
by Mareike 20 Feb '04

20 Feb '04

Hello everyone! I'm comletely new to working with Zope and web sites in general. I hope my questions don't seem too stupid. I've written a navigation method something like this: <ul> <dtml-in expr="objectValues('Folder')"> <li><a href="&dtml-absolute_url;"><dtml-var title_or_id></a></li> </dtml-in> </ul> It works fine but whenever the default views of the folder contents are called they are displayed in the very same frame. What I wanna do is the following: If there are folders in one folder, I want them to be listed in one frame. And whenever the index_html method is called (wjich seems to happen automatically) I want its contents to appear in a different frame. Can I call a method in DTML and assign a target frame? like: <dtml-var index_html> target=frame ... ???? I'd be very thankful for any help! Thank you very much!!! Mareike

Best Event system for Zope?
by Etienne Labuschagne 20 Feb '04

20 Feb '04

Hi all, I need an Event system for my latest project and have looked at EventChannel (http://www.zope.org/Members/k_vertigo/Products/EventChannel) and although it seems like exactly what I need, it seems like the project is dormant (last change 2002). Is there a "best of breed" event system for Zope that I can use? Thanks Etienne PS. My requirements is to be able to have a Zope object register to be notified when certain (user defined) events occur. I'm not looking for an events calendar type of product!
