An early 2000 Zope release will include support for two protocols heavily supported by Microsoft, the Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) and Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) protocol. What's the translation on this one? Namely, we'll be adding SOAP support to Zope as an augmentation of the XML-RPC support that is there now. Also, Microsoft engineers are talking with us about interoperability with the beefed-up DAV implementation in Windows 2000. I'm cooking up another press release, hopefully for next week, then that's it for the holidays. Problems passing parameters to and external function

I am using Zope 2.1.0 (src install on RedHat Linux 6.1) and I'm having a bit of trouble with passing parameters to external functions. I'm not sure if it's a problem with Zope or maybe I just don't understand how it should work. Here's a description of what I'm seeing: I have an external function (myFunc) that looks like this: def myFunc(self, a, b): return a, b I have a dtml document that looks like this: myFunc returned: <dtml-var "myFunc(1,2)"> When I view the document, I get exactly what I expect: myFunc returned: (1,2) If, however, I modify myFunc to include a default value for b, like this: def myFunc(self, a, b=5): return a, b when I view the document again, I get: myFunc returned: (1,5) even though I specified a value for b, it still uses the default. Taking the story further, if I change my document as follows: myFunc returned: <dtml-var "myFunc(0,1,2)"> I get a valid result again: myFunc returned: (1,2) Also, if I change the document as follows: myFunc returned: <dtml-var "myFunc(1,b=2)"> it seems to work properly again displaying: myFunc returned: (1,2) Now, if we take this wierdness one step further and change the document to look like this: myFunc returned: <dtml-var "myFunc(a=1,b=2)"> Then I get a Zope error: "not enough arguments; expected 2, got 0" when I veiw it. It seems like the more I play with it, the stranger it gets. (It seems that the Zope gods are against me.) Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Steve Jibson stevej(a)parlant.com

The policy for CHANGES.txt is that all user-visible new features or bugs fixed should be in there, as well as all user-reported bugs even if they are not necessarily user-visible. In reality, this basically means most everything :^) There is a zope-checkins list that has the message for *all* changes, which I go through prior to release to make sure none of us forgot anything, but it seems that I may have missed something. I'll have the beatings commence at once :^) Seriously though, our goal is for CHANGES.txt is to reflect everything relevant to the community of Zope users. I don't expect that many things were missed, but you're correct to point it out and I'll make sure to be more thorough in the future. -Z option doesn't work on BSDi

Hello, I have a client that uses a BSDi server from Verio (iServer) ... I have installed Zope there, but from time to time it stops and I cannot find error messages in the Z2.log ... I have started Zope with the ./start script without the "-D" and with "-Z" ... and when I try to issue the ./start again after it stops responding, I get a message that the Data.fs is locked by another process. I issue a ps -aux | grep python and there are no process running. So I issue a ./stop and then a ./start and it's working again... Does anyone has a solution to this? External Methods and RESPONSE

HI all, I've got a weird one here, I'm using Martijns' method of allowing people into a site based on domain (basically no password, and allowed domains -> AllowedUser and another acl_users folder on level higher with AnonUser = no password and domain = *.*.*.*). My standard_html_header looks like this; <dtml-if "_.str(REQUEST['AUTHENTICATED_USER'])=='AnonUser'"> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect('denied')"> </dtml-if> <html> .... This works fine and dandy if someone goes to a page directly. However, I am creating my output page from an External Method, which looks something like this... def sg_preamble(self, guideid): """ render the front page of a guide based on guideid """ .... template_str = self.standard_html_header.read_raw() template = DocumentTemplate.HTML(template_str) html = template(self) ... template_str = self.standard_html_footer.read_raw() template = DocumentTemplate.HTML(template_str) return html + template(self) Trouble is that I'm getting NameErrors saying that RESPONSE doesn't exist.. I have the same trouble trying to install the XMLDocument product. My guess is that somebody upgraded to a glibc2.1 system (e.g., RH 6.0) and built the Linux binaries (the .so files) there. What is especially irritating is that the undefined symbol, __bzero(), is an ancient and deprecated BSDism -- I remember wondering, "why didn't they use memset()" when I first ran across bzero() years back (of course, BSD didn't HAVE memset() when they published their TCP stack c. 1984, but that is another story). Can someone at DC please suggest a workaround? I don't see any use of bzero() in the XMLDocument source, for instance, so perhaps I just need to rebuild from source?
