URGENT: need very basic help with Zope2 persistence

Hi, I'm using Zope2 and am trying to get Persistence working for the first time by creating an object store. I'm using the documentation: http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Reference/ObjectPublishingIntro which has a chunk of code to do a very basic store on a Person. I've tried this code both within and without Zope with no success. I'm wondering whether 1. The code (appended) doesn't work for Zope2? When ExternalMethod->Add'ed into Zope, I get: Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. exceptions.AttributeError Sorry, a Zope error occurred. FYI: More cool XML in Zope

Howdy folks. Besides Amos' exciting XML Document download, there's something that snuck into beta1. I got back yesterday afternoon from being out all day to find out that XML import/export is actually *in the interface*. There's now an option on the import/export view of a folder to export as XML. Even _I_ wasn't aware that it finished in time for beta1. Better still, it was much, much more than I thought. If the contents of an object appear to be a displayable string, it is exported as a string. Thus, you can actually dump the contents of a tree, search and replace all the DTML Documents, then re-upload it. To get an idea, get beta 1, go to the QuickStart, click on Import/Export, and select "Download to local machine" and "XML format". If you have IE5, you'll actually get a parsed, colorized, and collapsible/expandible display in the browser window. ZClasses and default documents, and COM objects.

Hi all, I'm just starting to look at zClasses again and am having some difficulty in setting up default documents within the zClass. Let's say that I create a CD Product and want that CD to have a 'index_html' so that it can render itself. Where would I put the document so that it appears as a default and alos is editable by the user at a later date? On a similar tack, after creating the Product, what would be the correct call to create the Product from within an external method? I've been looking at this on and off for about a month and am getting no closer. On the subject of COM, I'm in the final stages of creating a product to convert Word Documents to HTML on the fly, taking the style sheet built into the document and creating an HTML4/CSS rendition of it. I know that there are Word->HTML converters around, but we have an awful lot of documents that need doing, and don't really want to convert them if no-ones going to look at them, this way since they get converted on the fly (and then cached and only reconverted if the original changes), only the documents that need converting get done. It's working sort of well for Word at the moment. Once that's done I'm moving on to Powerpoint then maybe other document types. I see this as an exciting way to do some complex stuff (on the cheap). Imagine being able to create maps from the Excel Map system and then show them via HTML with hotspots etc., or using Excel to do the Graphing, or even using it to create pivot table's etc. If anyone else has an interest in this then let me know. B1: problems making zclass objectmanagers with zclasses in them

I have a zclass I made with A4 and I am having problems getting it to work with B1. It inherits from objectmanager and I created another zclass in the methods view of the first zclass. So, after upgrading to B1 I can not longer ad instances of the child zclass to instances of the parent zclass. I thought this had something to do with the new permissions stuff so I tried adding a permisions object to the product and then setting the permision property of the factory to it and then mapping 'view' in the constructor's security page to the new permision (per the what's changed in B1 page) and this didn't help. Is there something else I need to do - or have I done something wrong? Thanks, ^Roman

Problem with Binding Classes to Results of SQL Methods

Hi! I was looking at the Z SQL Method's User's Guide at http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Guides/ZSQL/ZSQL-HTML/ZSQL.html, and I'm interested in the "defining Result classes" section. I've got some data in MySQL format right now, and I want to wrap a Python class around it "the Zope way" so that I can access/update properties of the object without embedding SQL in my Python code (I did that some in PHP3, and now my code is somewhat unreadable :-(). So, I defined a class "School.py" in /usr/local/Zope/python/lib/Shared/smpitts and created an empty __init__.py file in that directory. I then added the following line to /usr/local/Zope/Extension/smpitts_utils.py: "from Shared.smpitts.School import School". Here's my class definition in School.py: """Represent a School in the MSC Database""" class School: ""Represent a School""" def test(self): return "Yippee..I'm a School Object!" I also created an Z MySQL Database Connection in the Test folder of my Zope server. (The docs are really bad on this: I had to look through several source files before I found a very large doc string with connection info. Why that is not shown when I enter an invalid connect string is my guess). It connected OK to my MySQL server (version 3.22.25). I created a simple SQL method with the parameter SchoolId and this SQL: SELECT * FROM Schools WHERE  and called it School. In the Advanced tab, I told Zope to use Class Name: School and Class File: smpitts_utils for the results. It appeared to work, I tried entering invalid module names and it generated error messages, but when I entered the actual modules, it found the class OK. Testing the method worked great, and looked up School data perfectly. However (from the Docs), I thought I should be able to do something like this to run the test method: http://orwell:9673/Test/School/SchoolId/GRAH/test I got a "Resource Not Found" message. Just doing this: http://orwell:9673/Test/School/SchoolId/GRAH gives me the index_html object for /Test/, demonstrating the Acquisition works OK. What am I doing wrong? Is that piece of Documentation dated? Should I be using Z-Classes to accomplish this instead? I've got a some data in MySQL format (about 4,000 rows), and I want to reap the benefit of encapsulating them in Objects without having to manually, (or programmatically), add them all to Zope. Greetin's Zope is, as we all know, a very powerful application development and content management tool. Whenever we come upon problems that need to be solved in the real world, Zope is always the perfect piece of software that solves all problems, very well. This is how we designed it, through real world use. Zope solves it's problems though the use of superior technology. With ground breaking concepts like acquisition, pure web object orientation, a simple management interface, and secure and flexible security, Zope can take on any other 'web portal tool kit' commercial or otherwise. Up to this day however, Zope lacked one feature that would complete it's total Zope Zen. The ability to insert random 'Zippy the Pinhead' quotes into your Content. This dire need has been fulfilled, introducing the Zippy DTML tag: http://www.zope.org/Download/Contrib/Zippy.tgz This Product contains the MIT Zippy the Pinhead database, and distributed with GNU Emacs, and a simple 12 line Python class (not including comments). This is probably the simplest example of a DTML tag to date. To use the Zippy tag, simple untar and ungzip the Zippy.tgz file in your main Zope directory, restart Zope, and an variation on the following complex Zippy tag syntax:  For a more cheerfull, and possibly more productive development experience, place this DTML in your standard_html_error file and smile with each traceback. -Michel

ANN: Zope for Windows (Zmake version) - new release

Hi, I've released a new version of Zope for Windows. This version now includes ALL the Win32 extensions neatly tucked into the Dlls directory. NO registry changes are made. You can now run Zope/Zserver as a Service, Pywin (in debugger if you wish) and console binary. All three versions support OLE, ActiveX and all the cool windows stuff. I haven't released my WordArt Zclass yet because it will require ghostscript (silly Word cannot save WordArt pics). To use this, you ONLY need Zope (python is included). Follow the instructions in PCBuild as usual. Compiling ZSybaseDA under Redhat 5.1

Hi I am trying to compile ZSybaseDA for use with Redhat 5.1. The versoin of Zope I am using is one that was packaged as a Redhat rpm file by jrush http://starship.python.net/crew/jrush/Zope/. Here is the output when I attempt to compile it.
