Have you looked at the UserDb product? It was built specifically to pull users (including roles and such) from an RDBMS. You can get the UserDb product from the Zope site at: http://www.zope.org/Download/Prereleases/UserDB/ It should be fairly easy figure out how to do this sort of thing by looking at the way UserDb works -- if you have any questions, let me know. > 2. LONG/BLOB support is still in the process of being worked out for most of the Zope database adapters - hopefully there will be a patch for this soon. I can't really put a date on it, since we're pretty swamped with consulting work at the moment :) I'd be happy to suggest some alternative designs that you could use in the interim though, if you want them :) Hope this helps! Zope appears to be very well suited for caching and displaying content on the site, and we have built most of the application so far with relatively little hassle. This is our first project using Zope and we like it a lot. kudos! There is a reason for this post, however :) We need some help validating our approach for handling members and some help with a couple of specific problems. Please help! MEMBERS The next step is to add members, which requires large numbers of writes to the system, particularly since the data generated by the application (~200K of HTML per usage) must be saved. I am looking at two approaches and am desperately wondering if anyone has an opinion. A) Store all member data as folders and properties in Zope. B) Use a RDBMS for member data storage Assumptions: (please correct me if I am wrong about any of these) I. Zope can select cached data faster than a RDBMS. II. A RDBMS can handle frequent and/or large writes of data faster than Zope. It seems like option B is a better solution because it maximizes Zopes strengths (RAD, displaying cached static content in a dynamic way) and minimizes Zopes weaknesss (slow writes). In fact, we have successfully developed a large portion of the membership services using this approach with Oracle. PROBLEMS [ Environment: Zope 1.10.3, Linux Redhat 6, Oracle 8, DCOracle 2.0.0 ] 1. One big problem we are currently running into involves member authentication. If we are going to avoid writing membership data into Zope, that means usernames & passwords need to be stored in the RDBMS. Mac/IE Image Uploads

Just noticed that when I upload images through Internet Explorer with my Mac they don't get the right file type and they don't work even once I change the file type. Netscape works fine. Is there a workaround for this (which is probably an IE problem more than ZOPE). BTW we're about ready to start ZOPE hosting so if you want to contact me off-list please do! Josh

Calling a propertysheet

Zopists, This used to work with the old ZClasses but now it gives me a traceback.  This is in the index_html method of inside a ZClass. Apparently the propertysheets need to be called with a  in order to load the proper namespace. But with what, when it's in a ZClass. I tried self.propertysheets..., but self is no longer recognized either. Anyone have the proper way to change properties with Zope 2. Jason Spisak webmaster(a)mtear.com

ZServer is not stable yet

Just wondering if this is what other people are seeing. Frequently (once a day?), ZServer goes out to lunch and I get the following error message: (102) failure during connect  or sometimes, ZServer will completely die and the non-ZServer version of Zope will start instead (what is it called, pcgi publisher?) which of course has the wrong content because I am working on ZServer/ODB3. In my apache error log, this is the last entry: [Wed Jul 14 19:27:51 1999] [error] [client 206.183.203.132] Premature end of script headers: /home/sites/home/web/zope/cgi-bin/Zope.cgi I have to manually restart z2.py to get it back. I am starting Z2.py with the -Z option to start the watcher thread, which apparently isn't working or doesn't think ZServer is having problems. Is this because it's still Alpha? Currently, ZServer dies way too often to use in a production site. Here is the command I'm using to start Zope: python z2.py -u zope -Z var/mgr.pid & Is this the correct usage of the -Z option? My bad, The syslogd logger is accidently turned on by default, and Windows doesn't support Unix Domain Sockets (obviously.. ;) On startup, try: python1.5.2 z2.py ZSYSLOG_SERVER=127.0.0.1:514 This will cause it to use UDP sockets (which windows does support) and will redirect the logging packets to your localhost, which will just then vanish in thin air. Alternatively, you could point this to a configured unix machine and do syslog style logging. The solution is, of course, to be able to turn the whole thing off. Is there a DB2 adapter ?

If not, is anyone interested in this project ? Creating an order form with multiple lines...

Hi guys, I am trying to create an order form for producing orders. This form should allow the creation of a general header of the order, and then adding line to line to the order itself. Till the very last line has not been introduced, there should be no committment on the sql DB I am using as a data backend. I have some difficulties in defining the form for the order lines.
