What does it mean in an HTML snippet? Inserting characters that the author didn't intend to be in there is evil. Asking the authors to re-type all their code so that it will display in 640 pixels probably isn't realistic. Can someone take a look at other sites (such as sitebuilder or devnet) and find out how they handle this issue? --Paul

I have setup Zope 2.0 but I can't get it to use the default ports. I am using the -p 0 option but it insists on puting http on port 9673. What's the secret handshake to make it do what I want? -------------------------------------------- Mike Owens

tree tag question

hi everyone, i was experimenting with the tree tag today (which i want to use for providing help page navigation) and i just copied and pasted all code snippets from the ZBook tutorial as well as arranged folders etc. as recommended. my setup is Zope 2.0.0a3 / Python 1.5.2 / RH6 could it be that this tutorial assumes an older version of Zope? Status of DAs

OK gang, I've been beating my head against all the DAs of late, looking for thread safety issues (the long and the short is nothing is currently fully thread safe), however, as you read the attached document, you'll understand that getting them to work in a functional fashion is not going to be hard. We will be releasing fixed versions of Oracle, ODBC and perhaps one other in the very near future (this is my next task). If you see any glaring errors, please let me know, or if you know of tricks related to making something work in a thread-safe fashion, please let me know. [sort-of offtopic] cookies, http, and https.

[kinda not related directly to zope, but indirectly, it is the sort of thing that people using zope are likely to hit. hit 'delete' if you're easily offended by off-topicness] Ok, so I have a number of sites in the domain ekno.lonelyplanet.com. I want to share cookies amongst them, so that the user only has to log in once, and the cookies (with a 30 minute lifetime) will pass that on to the others. Problem: one of the sites is http, the other https. Setting a cookie from the http site with a domain of '.ekno.lonelyplanet.com' _should_ result in it also being delivered to the https site, but doesn't. As far as I can tell, both Navigator and IE are refusing to send the cookie set from the http site to the https site. Presumably this is some poor idea of security. Has anyone else seen this, and, more importantly, has anyone else found a workaround? Thanks, Anthony.

I don't know how to identify other objects which are in anothers folders. example: i have an objects visible from URL http://localhost/Tests/test_1 This objects has method index_html. Scripting rather than using the management GUI ...

Can I bypass the management GUI and just use python scripts to make changes to my Zope Object Database? For example, I'd like to traverse my entire database correctly setting the height and width properties of all images. I'll give myself RSI doing this via the GUI. The other option that I can see is to write an external method, put this in the root folder, and call it through the management interface. If you wrote a script that changed your filesystem, at some point you'd have to call it to do the actual changing. Think of calling an ext method from the management screen 'running' a script.
