I _will_ note, however... :^) Yesterday we were giving our workflow spiel to a group of distinguished guests and the topic of acquisition came up. Rob Page here was discussing how acquisition allowed us to create general SQL queries high up in the folder hierarchy that were narrowed by properties lower in the folder hierarchy. Thus, the SQL query to find out what was in your workflow "Inbox" occurred all the way up in the application level. But various properties constrained the query as you traversed into departments and into actors within departments. The managers of each department folder and each actors subfolder within the department didn't have access to see inside the SQL query -- it was defined "up" above their management reach. The SQL query used the first folder property it could find as it rolled "up" the folder system. There was a special case of a headquarters "superdepartment" that was allowed to look at all departments. They got their own SQL query and thus didn't acquire the higher up SQL query. Thus, the idea of acquisition extends to cover not just subtemplates but also properties, security settings, relational database integration, external methods -- anything that is an object in Zope. And most importantly, the security rules are obeyed. In Frontier, if you "acquire" a subtemplate that you are not allowed to access, does it prevent you from accessing it? --Paul

really really refresh again

I started the stupid refresh question last month. Now I'm trying to use the Poll product as a starter/learner. I cannot get the images to refresh properly. I know about   and have tried putting these in the document containing the image. This has no obvious effect. This gif refresh problem must happen to others. Any ideas? -- Robin Becker

Joachim-- Zope2 has a utility that can be used with older sites that you outta take a look at. It's in the utilities directory and it's called load_site.py. It will load the contents of a directory into a folder in Zope, converting images to Images, directories to Folders, etc. Just get the source release for alpha4 and grap the script. Here what i get when clicking on http://localhost/Zope/manage: var/pcgi.log: pcgi-wrapper: No such file or directory (102) failure during connect Maybe the Problem is /usr/tmp/Zope-1.10.3-src/var/pcgi.soc does not exist. The stand alone server works and Zope-2.0.x works with ZServer. Btw. pcgi worked with no version without starting Zserver. There is no Zserver in Zope-1.10.3 right? pcgi/Util/pcgifile.py fails with error attempting: 'from cgi_module_publisher import publish_module' Python-1.5.2 was compiled from the porst collection with all modules. Strange.

I guess I can explain that. If the site _is_ fit to a certain size, on a "big screen" you have the option to enlarge the window; on a small screen, you don't. That doesn't mean you should design to fit a full screen, as there are other factors, such as people with disabilities or poor eyesight, as one poster pointed out. 620 seems to be a good page width. A better version of the Image object?

How are Zopers dealing with providing images at various resolutions? I started off creating a separate folder for each image, the folder containing three Zope image objects with pictures at high, medium and low resolution. I added a resolution property and a DTML method for rendering the appropriate image. This "works" but is rather inelegant. (I am also ignorant about how to automate the creation of this hierarchy - a folder and three subimages.) It would be much nicer if the image object could render itself at various resolutions. That is, you upload 1 high-res version and can obtain lower res versions when calling the render method. Being new to Zope, is it possible to sub-class the base objects and have them generally available? (This raises the question: is there a user-contributed archive of Zope objects?) Any info is much appreciated. I can see the power of Zope but am still hanging precariously on the learning curve. Cheers, Darran Edmundson dEdmundson(a)bigfoot.com

This is so true, especially to web development. The whole concept behind the web makes it so easy to bind different technology together that we, the developers, don't have to commit to one single solution for all our problems. Therefore, we can use the best solution for a specific problem instead of trying to find one solution that can address MOST problems. Kam
